Appalachian Trail Episode 3 - Fontana Hilton, Entering the Smokies

- My Appalachian Trail journey continues on days 6 and 7. On Day 6, I hike only 10 miles to the Fontana Dam Shelter (known as the Fontana Hilton). A short day and nice weather allow me to relax a bit and enjoy time with other hikers. On Day 7, I start early and cross the Fontana Dam in the dark. The lights and the dam were beautiful. I enjoyed the view from a windy and sketchy Shackstuck fire tower while walking 18 miles to Spence Field Shelter. Wind, cold, and rain roll in and challenge my tarp.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I've watched a few different thru hikers do the AT but it sure is neat and I haven't followed anyone yet that has had a hammock setup so this is extra special.
