    I went down the same path. Looked at others like Cocktail Audio and HiFi Rose. I went with the DMP-A8 and installed the Beatechnik linear power supply upgrade and a Samsung 4TB SSD. I really think it preforms excellent as a media server (I have all DSD files, ripped SACD's and converted redbook CD's / high rez PCM). With having all DSD files and with the AKM velvet sound DAC chip set, in the A8, that I am very, very close to same analog sound as my vinyl set-up without the hassle. I have the A8 feeding an Accuphase E-4000 integrated.

      Is that the LHY power supply you've installed? Did it make a noticeable difference?

      Thanks for watching Joey! I'm intrigued with the Beatechnik linear power supply. Very intrigued. How did it effect the soundstage, imaging, etc?

      @@TheModestAudiophile-oq2hy The upgraded power supply made a difference in widening the sound stage. I did A/B comparisons against a Cary Audio DMS-700 (~$7k). Both use an AKM chipset. After setting the filter on the A8 to Slow Roll-off, I had a good match with the DMS-700's, but the DMS-700's sound stage was larger. On some of Art Pepper's SACD's the drum cymbals would be projected on the outside of my speakers with the DMS-700 and on the inside of my speakers with the A8. Upgrading the power supply really pushed the sound stage out and made it very difficult to hear a difference between the two digital sources. In the end I kept the A8 and sold the DMS-700.

    I own the DMP-A6 and use it mainly as a server. Like you, I have a great deal invested in digital files and have them loaded up on a 2TB nvme ssd inside the DMP-A6. Works wonderfully. My main goal was to get "bit perfect" data going to my dac. Prior to the Eversolo, I was using a laptop and other computers running JRiver as my player, but I could never get the signal to come out of the computers in its natural state. The computer's OS kept down sampling to 16bit 44.1khz. I've tweaked the OS's, both Linux and Windows, but nothing worked. The Eversolo, out of the box, solved that issue. How they do that, I'll never know. As for the internal dac of the Eversolo, I found it flat sounding compared to my Denafrips Pontus II. The Denafrips is 3D with depth I've not experienced before. It has layering and separation of instruments that I didn't get from the internal Eversolo dac. So, keeping the Pontus II. I don't subscribe to any streaming service, however I do listen to the free Paradise Radio station every morning when I do my workout. It sounds ok, but my personal library sounds better for critical listening and enjoyment. I've had my Eversolo for about a year now and intend to keep it. No longer have physical media like LPs or CDs. It was great to get rid of all that clutter.

      Thanks on the feedback on the Dac , I wonder how it compares to a Geshelli J2

      Great comment! Well..... now I see you have a Pontus II which I'm sure sounds outstanding! In my listening room the DMP-A6 did outshine the Ares II/Enyo. So I'll pack that up and hopefully get a fair amount of $$ for it. I'll use the proceeds (and add to it I'm sure) towards a turntable upgrade. I agree that, like you, I've found that my HiRes files on the internal SSD sound superior to the streaming. However I'm using the streams as a close alternative to determine if I want to purchase that recording on vinyl or not. Thanks for watching!

      Just a question please, seems A6, A8 to like lossless files, I can see no where referencing lossy formats , I have a lot of stuff at opus high bitrate VBR ( I can not hear diff with medium bitrate ) , Seems Everrsolo doesn't do Opus, yet I can go rip them again to flac , but can't be bothered . Plus I will be upgrading my HT receiver etc next year ( so they can do most of this ) , Does any one know what lossy these can play . Also heard a 4Tb library can be slow to parse .
      Plus I could build a small server , to be controlled by phone app , can do room EQ to high std ,. My music set up is quasi independent of receiver , ie my amp has an home theatre mode , to be taken over by receiver chain

      I'll be keeping the usb cable...... as I'm sure I'll get the itch to look at new DAC's down the road. For now I'm pretty happy with it. Thanks for watching.

    I’d really like to have a default power-on volume level. I have my stereo on a timer that turns on every weekday to wake us up. It’s great that the Eversolo resumes playing the last station selected, but the volume is also whatever was last set. This is bad for an alarm. My Node2i has an alarm feature, that tunes to a station at a selected volume at a set time. What I don’t like about the Node2i, is that it always powers up in silence. You must select something to play. I’ve had the Node for a couple years, and just got the A6 a few weeks ago. There’s pluses & minuses to each one.

      @@HiFiMods Noooo..... I use my stereo as an Alarm Clock (ie.... it's set to turn on every morning) and I wish the Eversolo had a default power-on preset and volume level. What if the last time I played the stereo I had the volume really low or really loud.... then that's how it powers up at 5:50am!!

    Can get longer USB cables than 15 feet. I got an 8 metre from Supra and it worked perfectly. I think even twice that length will work good. I no longer use it because my system has changed, but I could if I wanted to.

    • @TheModestAudiophile-oq2hy
      @TheModestAudiophile-oq2hy  23 дня назад

      Oh I agree, one can certainly use a longer cable for sure. I should have said the industry states that you will hear diminishing returns on anything longer than 15 feet. Thanks for watching!

    been nice if you had pointed out where to get the password/username for mapping in windows. as you was on the method two option, if you had opened the menu option people may have got a bit more insight, good review , talk thru. love my A6 having had a bluesound node 2i before ,this outshines it only thing i found a bit disappointing is when on Radio Pardise, most of the time its in Flac then sometimes it's MQA, whereas the node is always MQA, no big loss

  • @JinxCanada
    @JinxCanada Месяц назад +8

    they really missed the mark without having a sub out like the bluesound node does. The only thing that really seems to draw people to this is the screen....which I've never understood. Why the BlueSound node or others don't have an HDMI OUT to show what you're listening to on your tv/projector but then a cheapy little Denon receiver does?

    • @TheModestAudiophile-oq2hy
      @TheModestAudiophile-oq2hy  Месяц назад +3

      I don't think the perfect device exists. Certainly not for reasonable money. I didn't need to sub out or preamp capabilities. Really, I just needed a place to park my HI-Res files into a component that looked good and was easy to use. How good the DAC is was a bonus. I wasn't expecting that. Plus, I'm a sucker for the VU meters.... Thanks for watching!

      I have an a6 connected to a Gustard R-26 augmented by a Gustard U-18 for the I2s input. I prefer the R-26 to the a6 and digital to analog (Yamaha px-3) but it’s all personal preference. I use Roon.

    I can’t seem to get sufficient volume out of the dmp a6 running it as a
    pre amp via rca cables into a Schitt
    Vidar 2 using Wharfedale Linton speakers streaming thru Tidal…some tracks are better than others but as a whole even at full volume which is “0” on the A6 the volume just seems anemic compared to my other components not to mention that I’ve never owned any equipment that I could run at absolute full volume
    without being unbearably loud or causing distortion…
    also doesn’t this mean I have 0 headroom…yes the volume settings for digital and analog on the a6 are at maximum…any suggestions ?

    • @HiFiMods
      @HiFiMods 16 дней назад

      In the A6’s settings, make sure the volume passthrough mode is turned on and ReplayGain source mode is turned off. I’m using XLR out on my A6, and it is the loudest source I’ve ever had.. 🤷‍♂️

    The Eversolo is as good as Denafrips (if not better!). And no, the Denafrips is not "more analog", i challenge you or anybody for a dual blind test in a controlled environment!
    Ther's no such thing as "Hi Res", adding bits just lowers the noise flood which is already better than human earing at 16 bits.
