Ok this interesting, we have had a truck camper for close to 10 years, we have never once removed the camper while camping, we love having the camper with us all the time, maybe if we needed to split up for something and of us wanted to stay at the campsite. We've talked about other campers but so far we always stay with the truck camper.
Watched your truck camper tour and came to watch why you made the switch. New subscriber, excited to see the adventures and daily living in a truck camper. Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas. Congratulations. Truck camper is surprising. We had ours for twelve years. I miss it. The wife, not so much.🤔 I still have the wife. She doesn’t miss the truck camper as much as I do.😉
Congrats and happy new year! Just be careful you don't break your beautiful new truck in half, lol. Saw a (Motortrend?) article of a person who did just that because they didn't realize that adding the weight of a small motorbike behind the truck camper added 2x the weight due to leverage so far behind the axle.
I have been feeling the same about the separate living space and vehicle and this is made more intense since the accident 3 weeks ago im in a rental car and i lost my house…
Congrats! You were right down the road from us - we were at Colt Creek State Park over Christmas. And live in Dade City about 45 minutes north of the dealership.
Congrats! We too have a truck camper .. we have the 1up bike rack but my husband fabricated an extension along with a swing out to be able to access camper on the road. We have a wolf creek 840
Congrats on the truck camper. Had one on a Chevy Silverado, but I have a house and HOA a pain so I sold it for my van that I can park on my driveway. Loved the truck camper on my 4x4 and could anywhere. Enjoy!
So excited for you. Growing up in Alaska there were more truck campers just because you could get to more places. So neat seeing folks going back to truck campers.
You will have to check out Destination Open Road on RUclips. They use to have a truck camper. And they had a house in Washington. Now they have a 5th wheel.
I have been watching these types of videos for the last couple of year, as this is my retirement plan, but I am glad I came across your channel as I am looking at the same exact setup. I already have the Ram 2500 HD 6.L 4x4 and had pretty much decided on the Cirrus 820, which I plan on purchasing fairly soon. Most Cirrus truck camper channels I have seen have been on a "dually" truck, so I am interested to see how it handles on a non-dually.
For six years we had a truck and camper( for holidays and weekends only) I loved it but I never ever tried to offload or onload the camper though...have to line up that truck just so but I suppose backup cameras are a big help these days
Awesome camper! Bought ours in 2019 from Gerzney at Tampa RV show. Now you have to learn all over again. Lots! Practice makes perfect for loading onto your truck. And I do it solo. Check out the upcoming TruckCamper rally in Quartsite. Met up with nearly a dozen Cirrus owners.
Congratulations Shipmate! I have a ‘21 Northstar Laredo SC on a ‘21 F350. Upgraded my batteries to two 100 amp Battleborns that I charge with a Renogy 50 amp DC to DC charger connected to the starboard battery using a single wire to the positive terminal and a ground wire to the frame by the spare tire. Anderson connector to allow disconnecting. Don’t have solar, haven’t needed it yet, but refrigerator is propane. DC to DC charger acts like the Roadtrek engine generator to quickly top batteries off when driving. The battleborns have been flawless but the new 200 amp SOK is a lot smaller and less expensive.
You got a great rig. We owned a 4x8 teardrop trailer made by Pleasant Valley (NuCamp's parent when it was a tiny company) for 9 years. Best workmanship. Now have the retirement 25ft Airstream. Stop by the NuCamp factory in Ohio for a tour, amazing. Safe travels, enjoy.
You're decision makes perfect sense. Having a base vehicle that has better capabilities on sketchier dirt roads provides a lot of ability to explore. The Mortons on the Move channel shows that even a pretty big rig (their Alaska/Canada trip used a larger rig then yours) can get you pretty far up some remote roads.
sorry to see Humble Road beautiful rig go..but you guys will be okay. None of our business on why you changed your rig, or why you bought a different one. We are just here for your adventure
How exciting! We purchased our Zion in the spring of 2019 after following your travels in your Zion SRT. After 45,000 miles and traveling across the country and into Canada, starting to feel the same things you described in this video. The Promaster clearance is so limiting so totally understand your desire to have a vehicle that will allow you to see areas that aren't possible with the van. Had to chuckle when you talked about the safety of being able to leave in a van at a moment's notice, but have never had to. Couldn't have said it better about not letting things that probably won't happen prevent you from doing things you would like. And, having your "house" be separate from your vehicle is quite alluring, too. Shortly after we started our van travels, we stepped into some friends'' truck camper and fell in love with having a table and chairs available all the time without having to move things around. Our home base is on the Olympic Peninsula and we spend a ton of time traveling the Peninsula in the winter. A truck camper with 4 wheel drive would be so much more ideal for getting through the occasional snow storm and be more comfortable on those long 16 hour winter nights. So happy to hear you are still planning on new adventures in a vehicle. I was worried you might decide to ride your bikes around the world or something a whole lot less interesting for us personally! Can't wait to see the next walk through video and ultimately see where this new mode of transportation takes you three! Anxious to see what how you upgrade your batteries in the Cirrus. All the best!
I’m having a hard time focusing but I have heard one issue that has been a concern for some. In a truck camper if you get feelings that you are not in a good place and want to leave, you have to physically leave your camper to be able to drive away. In another different note; I have a travel trailer parked in a seasonal campground of about 1200 lots. The big snow storm that is moving across the US went through the campground mowing down big trees from their roots, doing non-repairable damage to about 50 different kinds of RVs. No power and no water to anyone right now. It’s in the foothills of the Cascade mountains. My trailer is find as far as I know. And fortunately nobody was hurt. Be safe no matter where you go or what you travel in.
Welcome to Truck Camper Life! We have had ours since 2001 and though we are not full timers, we do spend 75-100+ nights a year in ours. We have had 4 different campers in that time frame. We have thought about van life ourselves and it will be interesting to follow your transition and see what you think about a couple specific considerations we have thought about. #1 - I think we would have less space in a van. We have taken out the back seats of our truck and built a platform for our dog. Underneath the platform we store chairs, a small table, etc. We have our bikes on a bike rack . #2 you mentioned here - I wonder if you will miss the feeling of security of being able to just hop in the front and leave if needed. #3 - When you arrive at a cold destination - the camper is cold - where you are used to a warm interior upon arrival. Another thing you mentioned - we have converted our camper to lithium batteries and it is a life changer! We have gone 21 days without hookups. Measure and write down your height inside the cab - you will second guess yourselves the first time you see a low overpass! I could go on forever here - bottom line - enjoy and if you have any questions please reach out!
Thanks! I’m sure this stuff will be in future videos! We definitely need to get some lithium installed. Not used to plugging in:). In our last van we didn’t plug in for over a year. Thanks again!
We are going back and forth with bike storage right now ourselves. Don't want the bikes hanging off the back getting rained on and fearful that they will get stolen. Just like you we have a lot of money tied up in our bikes. Those enclosed bike storage boxes are super slick but at close to $3k, it has been tough to pull the trigger. Interested to see what you go with.
We have a 20 ft fully contained toy hauler travel trailer with solar on the roof and I like the versatility of disconnecting it leaving it at the campground or whatever and taking our 4x4 truck anywhere that we can.
It sounds like the biggest thing you are giving up is being stealth…but you will gain access to those back road places. Looks like a really nice camper…and it’s not huge, so should be easy to drive. Can’t wait to see a tour of the inside. I am so excited for you both😀👍

Merry Christmas guys! Nu Camp!!! The masters of using every square inch of a rig! Lynn's comment was "Wow! that's big... see why Irene is nervous!". My comment? It's a beaut' Clark!" Congrats!
Congratulations, Guys! A truck camper was not on my radar. This is going to be a lot of fun. It's a big jump from a HR van to a truck camper. You're kinda going opposite of us. We had a truck camper for four years. Lived in it full-time for a year. The van bug bit us and here are. Hope you love your tc as much as your van. And - Happy New Year!!
I’ve been camping in a truck camper for several years, last three full time. Looking forward to your next adventures. The drive to AK is a very fun trip with plenty of free camping in some spectacular places. Can’t wait for the camper tour.
Each to there own (ur time ur dime) - But I had a truck camper - I hatted it - 2⭐ I've had my Transit self built van for 6 years and love it - 9⭐ Biggest issue was that unless the truck camper has large rear door (which it won't) - hanging out in a TC (when weather is bad) is very claustrophobic. I have a dozen other dislikes of a tc as compared to the van - but don't want to bore the f out of U. I get 100% why you want a more off-road capable vehicle. I lifted the van & put BFG K02;s tires & has taken us to many trails we had no right being on -:) New is good & I hope it works out. & Merry Xmas...
Went online to check out those camper and they look great. Pricing for the 2022 is very good and the 2023 is just $10K more. Looks like you have a sweet camper. And very light weight too. Very nice. Good luck.
I completely understand. If I recall I think you folks had a second alternator? That really drops the front clearance and it is really the Achilles’ heel of the pro master, which I really love. Were any considerations made to an Overlander type rig that is a DIY?
Congratulations on your new baby!! We sold our Zion SRT a few years ago and bought a RAM truck and are pulling an Oliver Legacy2 now! We love it and you will love the drivability of the RAM! Happy holidays!!
Can’t wait to see how this turns out for you. I absolutely hated mine, so it’s going to be a treat watching someone make it work with probably a better attitude than I had. Merry Christmas and best of times to you.
Oh nice truck! That’s our next vehicle. We have an older Dodge truck now and it’s been great! I totally agree with all your thoughts & reasons of why you made this change - congrats!
I have had every type of rv there is. It is all give and take for sure. There is no such thing as the perfect rv. I loved my cabover camper. The only negative for me was it acts like a sail in the wind. They are high and top heavy. I look forward to watch your transition
Wow! What a difference. That rig is tall!!! Anxious to see the inside. Congratulations and Merry Christmas! (I definitely thought you bought a boat lol!)
Thrilled to see that you got a Cirrus! We have had the T@Bs and I always drooled over that rig. Can’t wait for your tour video next week. Wishing you a wonderful New Year with all types of new adventures!
We guessed it would be a truck camper. Excited to see it is a Cirrus as we looked into and considered one of those a while back. Went with a Transit van for now. Maybe one day! Nucamp is a great company. Lots of good times ahead with new experiences for you. We wish you good health, good luck, and happy adventures on this next journey ❤️😃 Love the truck too!
Congratulations guys 👍😊 you’re going to love your NuCamp Cirrus 820 truck camper. It will let you do more boomdocking on those back roads the vans could not travel. The Aldi heating system is very quiet and reliable. Also having the 4 season camper with headed basement you can go camping all year. Check out Stonyboots RUclips channel for some great ideas. I purchased a 2022 Cirrus 820 TC in September 2021 in Atlanta while living in Birmingham and love it so much that I moved to Colorado a few months to be closer to the mountains to explore the west easier. I carry it on a 2017 RAM 3500 Diesel Dually mega cab with a short bed 6’4”. Camper has 2 deep cycle batteries and I carry a light weight dual fuel 2500w generator for back up power. February 2022 I attended a truck camper ally near Quartzite Arizona with almost 300 other TCs for 4 days of seminars and speakers. It was great 👍 thanks for sharing and safe travels
You put sooo much love. Hard work and thought into building that van so it was a bit of a shock to see it go! The new buyer must be just thrilled with it if they're at all aware of its history
Merry Christmas and congratulations, we had a 2015 ram 2500 with a lance 825 for a while and loved it! Life changed and had to move to a class c but you’ll enjoy the TC and the ram!
Merry Christmas!! I know exactly where you were. We shop in that little strip mall. Wow you were in my neighborhood. That's very cool. Enjoy the camper! I look forward to all your new adventures!
Irene, we share the same philosophy. I like change and trying new things, too! This is going to be fun! Looking forward to it y'all!! We would love to drive to Alaska. Been there on a couple of cruises. It is a most awesome place!
Ray and I have said that if we didn't do a van, we'd do a truck camper. I can't wait to see how y'all like it. It will give that freedom of boondocking without losing your spot. And u can still fit in a regular parking spot. Also, You can drop the camper, and drive off. I love that you're trying something new. Congrats. This will be fun.
Congrats! It looks beautiful! We had a Shasta truck camper when we lived in Alaska "back in the day." We lost our skylight cover while crossing Hurricane Gulch bridge (crosswinds ripped it right off). I'm sure your Nu Camp is better constructed. I'm looking forward to seeing your new adventures. Merry Christmas!
I’m more of a tourer than a camper. The rig is then basically a place to spend the night, hang out in bad weather, and haul my stuff.
The ability to reach more!
We have retractable running boards for our Ram. Really nice!
wow, cool. ❤👍

Thanks for the info! Maybe we’ll see you down the road!
❤❤❤
Congratulations! Looks very cool. Adventures await! Merry Christmas 🎅
Thanks! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! Love it. Wishing you a happy, healthy, and adventurous next year!
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
You put sooo much love. Hard work and thought into building that van so it was a bit of a shock to see it go! The new buyer must be just thrilled with it if they're at all aware of its history
The new owners followed the build and we hope they love it! Now it’s time for some new adventures!
Excellent choice. Well done.
Thanks!
Merry Christmas and congratulations, we had a 2015 ram 2500 with a lance 825 for a while and loved it! Life changed and had to move to a class c but you’ll enjoy the TC and the ram!
Change is the only constant;)
WOW I’m looking forward to seeing the inside. Have fun and Merry Christmas! 🎄
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!! I know exactly where you were. We shop in that little strip mall. Wow you were in my neighborhood. That's very cool. Enjoy the camper! I look forward to all your new adventures!
We at at the Ford Garage there. Cool place! Merry Christmas!
@@CareyOnVagabond Great Burgers!
Irene, we share the same philosophy. I like change and trying new things, too! This is going to be fun! Looking forward to it y'all!! We would love to drive to Alaska. Been there on a couple of cruises. It is a most awesome place!
Thanks Karen☺️
Ray and I have said that if we didn't do a van, we'd do a truck camper. I can't wait to see how y'all like it. It will give that freedom of boondocking without losing your spot. And u can still fit in a regular parking spot. Also, You can drop the camper, and drive off. I love that you're trying something new. Congrats. This will be fun.
Thanks!
Merry Christmas!! How exciting! Can't wait to see the inside and the new adventures.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
