@@Straightdarts hi Daniel, great video and excellent tips. Can you explain about hand at the end of the follow through. Is it better to have the fingers pointing down than pointing at the target? Thanks 👍
By far (and mean by miles) the best darts channel and the best advice you'll find on YT. I'm only a beginner, I struggled to get a consistent throw going but after watching this guy's videos I've improved massively. It's made me look at every aspect of my throw and understand what I'm doing wrong , I was surprised to know how many things can have an effect on it.
Brilliant video and tips Daniel. I’m constantly working on a draw back with a good push forward from the elbow. I do struggle with a consistent release but when it does go right it just feels completely correct. Of course that’s without someone seeing what I’m doing 👍🏻🎯
I struggle with release , my arm ends up straight , but I’m in to minds weather to point at the target with a straight hand , or like u palm down at release.great video
Lightbulb moment for me that has finally got me throwing the dart. That is, the position of the elbow at 00:48 secs and then where it is at 00:52 secs. This has at last got me a natural hand flop in the follow thru and a far more accurate throw. I've been plagued with throwing to the right and this seems to have resolved it.
Absolutely fantastic, been playing 3 months now and tried several grips, stances and throw styles and all with little joy and no consistency. Watched some of your videos and this one in particular and helped me sooooo much. I’ve never been so close to my first 180 since watching your videos and more importantly I now have a throw that works. Great videos 👏 keep up the good work
Great tips mate. Thank you. It amazes me how simple yet so complicated this game can be. It's not like golf, yet is just as difficult to stay in the right head space to remember your process and throw properly
I would love to see Sky Darts having you on their commentary team, you have such knowledge and a natural ability to connect with people through your soothing voice and personality.
As usual thank you very much. I have a tough time with the follow through and the thing with my wrist..... I keep trying but I just can't seem to get it..... I guess I just have to practice practice practice practice practice! Keep these videos coming!
I really like this detailed tips because it is easier to understand and I got great use of them 👍 Went from 45-50 to 58-65 avg now 👍 Even smach in an 16 darter the other day 👍 Great vid, sir 👍
My throw is not very consistent. Lots go in the 5’s instead of 20. I sometimes catch the flight on my face which puts me off and I think my fingers are flicking the darts on release as they sometimes take a weird trajectory…apart from that I’m doing great 😂
Are you griping with a finger on top of the dart? That's a common cause of spinning the dart off. I'd so you need a little straight push off the fingers or a slightly quicker release.
I have a challenge for you Mr Poole. Can you do a video of the famous Bristow checkouts? One being 84 (D11, D6 then Bullseye) and the other being 96 (D20, D3, Bullseye) I reckon you would do it in 5 mins easy :) Great video as always
Wow that's a big challenge 😳 haha I can do it though. I have only practiced a few times in the last 4 weeks due to the coaching work load but I'll make a special effort when I get time to do this. 😀 I'll also be housnet on the amount of attempts to hit it as well, as this could take some time. I haven't been brilliant the past week or so 😄.
Hey there Daniel 😎 you really have a way of simplifying tutorials, encouraging us in more ways than you'll ever know. By the way, is it just me or your camera that shows you throwing left?
When you flick your wrist is that motion a forced motion downwards? Or is it a smooth action that naturally accompanies the follow through? Wayne mardle has a video with no wrist flick but just a follow through
Hi. Can I ask question please. I’m averaging 61 at the minute but using a really unorthodox grip. Should I persist with that grip or is it worth trying to totally rebuild and go back to learning a new grip and starting again to potentially score better than what I am now please? Ps Great vids. Have helped me loads! 👍🎯
I'd see the grip depends if its causing your problems. You need the grip the follow these rules. 1. You must have your first finger and thumb fairly close together on the barrel. 2. You want to be able to push of flick the dart off the fingers. 3. You can grip to tight on the top of the barrel (your darts will spin off) 4. The dart must feel stable and balanced in your hand (not like it wants to turn.) :)
@Alan Marriott Yes, I coach full-time :) I'm still doing web sessions. All the information and price is on my website: www.straighttothepointdarts.co.uk I'm booked up for the next 3 weeks, but drop me an email, and we can arrange a time slot for next month. :)
The hand print is the bit I have trouble with, it's always different with each throw. I look like I'm directing traffic. 18 months into playing darts and I find it impossible to throw 3 darts the same 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️
Does stretching the arm at the beginning isolate the shoulder from the elbow movement, too? Or is it just for preparing the throw direction /aiming? Till now I sometimes miss to stretch the arm out 😩
The stretch isn't the most important part, but it helps contract the muscles in the correct order to throw and by picking it up down the line it helps find the path you want to throw down :)
Hey mate, why would my darts always seem to veer to the right, even if I’m lined up in my site, my elbow is lined up… yet my darts seem to veer right all the time. Cheers mate.
Uneven pressure on one part of the barrel. Loosen the grip and make sure your flicking straight. Sometimes the gip needs adjusting slightly as well. :)
No, you can't. It can be affected by the balance sometimes. You can throw any weight. It's just a case of adjusting the timing of the throw. Go with the wait that feels most comfortable, and as a general rule, the lighter the dart, the more accreditation you need from the wrist. You can often throw heavier darts softer. :)
Weird, Iv had some terrrible games and some brilliant games in the past month but most nights I'm around the 75 mark. My game has dipped since trying to lose weight, probably my blood sugars. But I'm working hard on my game again now so I should be back better than ever soon enough. :)
Your elbow lifts on the throw. I’ve seen other tips that suggest keeping it at the same level but also not important if you’re consistent. Is elbow movement a problem as long as it remains straight?
I did notice I was lifting a bit to early, I'm gunna try and work on that, I think It started after I had a minor jury last month. Well spotted good sir and thank you!
any tips on how to train on the height of the dart. I'm playing darts for like 3 hours a week for 3 months now. And I notice vertically I am doing ok (for my beginner level). But i have a lot of problems with the height of the dart. I also struggle a lot with the 20 and 1 doubles, while the 16 and 8 and 4 are going pretty good (again for my level). How can you train this specifically?
If your dart is landing very height it's due to an early release. Try to use the wrist more. If its landing low, your realese is probably too late, and you're drawing them down. Try and flick the wrist earlier. As soon as you start to go through, make sure your wirst is the first thing to start moving. :)
@@Straightdarts funny story, it's both actually. When going for the 20 i have some darts going above the 20, when going for 19 i pull some below the 19
Try and create more distance between the dart and yourself when aiming. You can also try to slow the draw back down and try build more momentum earlier, this can shorten the draw back.
I am right handed but changed dur to injury and dartitis. I took me 2yrs to be able to hit the board left handed but now I'm an 80 average player (most days) haha 😄
