The best cover of the best Abba song.. Hands down Blancmange the best after all these years ...
Ageed it's the best ABBA song, though that's all !
I must have heard that musical style!
The smile at the end
One of the cleverest songs ever written. I’m still not sure if I fully understand it 40 years later. Blancmange’s version is utterly sublime, without doubt an epic cover version.
Blancmange
Probably one of the best covers ever
Absolutely correct.
@@mortisxx5712fastastic!
It's just about a person living a mundane life before he (or she, in the ABBA version) met someone that changed his life.
He is describing what his days were like before, and how much the same they were.
it's rare a cover version done in the same style nails it. here we are.
OBSESSED with this song still!!! (And it’s 2023) I wish I could go back in time and go to one of their concerts.
They play now more than ever. Go see them!
defo!!!!!
Me too! L O V E it!
@@KarlHamilton Blancmange
Going to see them tomorrow!!!
I love the way Agnetha is still used in the video :)
Abba gave them permission to use the video clips as they lived Blancmange's version
It's about the struggle of life in the city. Everybody of any occupations can relate to this song. It's the rigours and pain of monotonous life in the urban world. The daily deep sufferings of modern-day urban slaves.
I still smile at the thought of a gruff Yorkshireman settling down with the latest Barbara Cartland.
I think you mean proud Lancastrian!

onion boi
Of course, this was an amusing change to the original lyric, which was ‘the latest one by Marilyn French, or something in that style’ 😊

This is the perfect bookend to the original. And to have Agethna in the video as well just adds to that. it's long been my favorite ABBA song and it's great to see it treated so well.
This has long been my favourite ABBA song, but this Blancmange cover is brilliant.
Not a patch on ABBAs version but a good try
Being a 70's product I have to agree that this is the best cover version.
He's not Agnetha. This is not bad though.
That bit starting @1:35 sounds like New Order's Blue Monday... Just saying :)) Edited
Or Donna Summer’s 1979 Our Love, which New Order ‘borrowed’?
The best cover version of this brilliant Abba song ever :))
Not even close to as Good as Agnetha when she sang it.
This song was the best ABBA cover versions ever.
This is much better than I remember.
He is gorgeous here xx
This was brilliant. I bought the single when it came out. Just as good as the ABBA version.
I first watched this video in 1988... It's already been 30 years, but it's great.
Superb cover of this song!
Agnetha is at her peak of beauty in ABBA's video for this.Neil did a first song, live acapella of this on their last but one tour a couple of years ago and it was totally brilliant and somewhat moving.
I think Agnetha’s peak of beauty was in 1975-1976. When ABBA was on American Bandstand, doing SOS.
Beautiful version of a beautiful song.
Couldn't agree anymore. Lucky
Pretty much one of the best comments I've read, both versions are crackers 👊😎

In 2015 I met someone. I'd been in a bad place. We gradually fell in love that summer. We both loved ABBA. I said I love this version; improved on the original, which I loved anyway; she was less convinced. But every year I would send her this the day before the anniversary of our meeting. "It's funny, but I have no sense of living without aim... the day before you came..." Well, it lasted five years.
A fantastic cover, timeless.
First time ever hearing this.. Simply beautiful!
Pinnacle of parody. I adore the original but keep coming back to this. Brilliant literal clips to accompany the video (especially the Lin Drum fill) and random Gharbar on the TV. So sad we don't have this sort of thing anymore - "I must have made my desk" - cut to video of an Ikea flat pack SNAFU just to keep it Swedish. Shout out to those with a sense of humour.
This is just beyond great. ❤️
Blancmange
Fantastic! As good as a modern song can ever be..
Fantastic cover of a classic song. Great video with the original Abba. Excellent.
"This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. The artist's voice is so powerful and the melody is incredibly catchy. Can't get enough of it!"
The best cover of any song.
Yes. Awesome
… most people swoon over their debut album ‘Happy Families’ which in itself is a terrific piece of music … but ‘Mange Tout’ truly trampled the sophomore jinx, with its corral of strong offerings, ‘Don’t Tell Me’, ‘Blind Vision’, ‘That’s Love That It Is’ & this single … ABBA songs are typically hard to cover with their lush layers & harmonies … yet, the boys improve with their vision of it, rarely said, better than the original
I agree with you 100% and I also love "Believe You Me." Blancmange are one of my favorite bands from the 80's and I continue to purchase all of their recent releases as well. By the way, as much as I adore ABBA, I like this version much better. I hope that is not a blasphemous statement to say to all of the music fans out there in the world. ;-)
Fantastic version. Love them since 80s.
Beautifully said thank you
@@shanefitzpatrick5811 very sorry if I called you an idiot I do apologize
@@timwood8912 no don't think you did. Thanks for apologising even though there was no need. Also isn't it great there making music again. Had them,Duran Duran,Abc,Yazoo etc on my school bag back in the day and still love them all. Have a great day and week Tim. Talk again.
Takes me back to my youth obsessed with this song
I love Blancmange, but ABBA are in a class of their own. 😊
Indeed so too.
i don't know what my life was like before i saw elaine in the school playground back in 1974, but i know how empty my life has been since i last saw her i n 1979.
Perfect electronic pop, as the original. A masterpiece for the ages.
27 to 29 seconds in... The most beautiful smile ever.
Such an underrated song. The 12inch version of this is absolutely magical.
Oh behave X

I Was 14,.. gone to a secondry school I knew noone,.. but the 3 fittest birds in school all liked Blancmange, found out I did and invited me to Appollo in Manchester,..my first ever gig with Three top birds,.. could have made more of it, but I was only young ,and my Yamaha TY 175 was my baby.. couldnt believe they would sit outside Niels mums house in Darwen, lancs, hopeing he would turn up,..his mum actually brought some biscuits out,.. wasn,t there myself,.. scrambling on my Ty175 listening to this on my walkmen...had it pretty good looking back...should of had a threesome with them though,...lol...hope you are all well...enjoy the track
Amazing beautiful cover ❤
Covering an ABBA song is very brave, but he made a great version of a very individualistic song.
Heard this last week on absoluteradio80s forgotten 80s segment. I don’t know where to start, it’s just brilliant. The end.
I must have, I must have, I must have.... poor dude is suffering from amnesia.
Is it me or does the RUclips version differ from the album version ?
Pop perfection. Beautiful.
Super version !!!!👍👍👍
Good try, and well done, but the original from ABBA remains the best
I like the singers voice, but don't understand the meaning whit the forced tempo. So no, not my favorit.
I going to listen till them in another song, se what I think 🙂.
1984 summer the day before you came
99.9% of covers are varying degrees of rubbish. This is in the .01% range.
BLANCMANGE: Highly Underrated!🎶☹️
Неееет! 😮. Никак
blancmange are just a joy
Agreed 💯
Superb cover brilliant.
Just seen them tonight in Manchester UK. Sound just as good as they did back then especially this tune..
I love Agnetha and I love ABBA, but this version is much better. He seems to understand the song better than ABBA did. He has real pain, anger, and sadness in his voice throughout. This song is so great.
I beg to differ. ABBA's version is far superior than this. Nice try but not going above ABBA. Agnetha's voice and Frida's operatic singing is better than this.
@@cserranoweb it's a
cover version
it's still
an abba version
'coz they earn off it
where have u been ?
Haha! I need a good laugh. This video is quite amusing though!!! 😂
They're both superb. Yes! 2 brilliant songs. Thanks.
Unforgettable, beautiful, timeless melancholic music!!!❤❤❤
It's my favourite Abba song X
I FINALLY FOUND IT OMG YAYAYYA
So underrated; my SO of the time and I (two musicians and big music nerds) were having a pretty bad argument and Spotify was playing rec's in the background - all of a sudden, the extended version of this cover came on and we both shut the hell up, turned our heads to the laptop and just listened to it (argument forgotten). It's so good
Blancmange
Blancmange of course you did!
Love Neil! Saw him a month ago. Looks even more youthful now
Terrible version, the original can never be bettered.
The day before you came was also sung by abba but I must admit I love blancmange version he seems to put more emphasis into this song and he sings it to perfection well done top guy from mr Colin Corcoran high street royal mile Edinburgh 👍🏻🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴👍🏻
Very nice Version ,ABBA is very proud of you ♥️ very Talented ,Thanke you for this Moment 💛❤️💕❤️🔥❤️🔥💙🧡🧡❣️💜❤️🩹💌💞
Maravillosa versión, no la había escuchado. Bravisimo!!!
Hardly a change from the original version.
Extremely handsome man there! Jeez!
Neil Arthur. He was just gorgeous.
Loved this version
This is quite a good version...though Agnetha's beauty swings it!
The kick at 1:35 ❤
Nice to see the ABBA lady at the end of video, that was their song.
Excellent job 👏...
MASTERPIECE X
so beautfull song.
This always reminds me of a book by Vladimir Nabokov called Mary.
The most gorgeous women to ever walk this world without doubt and a beautiful singer to boot. Loved her since 1974.
You would have thought as it was the blancmange version of the song old Neil would have brought some Indian food to go (perhaps a curry in a hurry)
My friend died in a motorcycle accident at the time,he was only 16,reminds me so much of him.
Love this version as much as the original. Great version, and just love the original, it should have been more popular then a lot of the ABBA songs. ❤️💙
excellent bravo
Best cover on the original!
Chou, tu connais cette version ? J'aime bien et ça change de la voix d'Agnetha ! Moi j'adore et le beat aussi et le garçon aussi mais manque parfois d'assurance dans la voix !!!!

in my younger days i looked like him :-) Really nice video and nice Track
Nostalgia for a time when we had a 'lunch hour'.
Agnetha is the prettiest women in the history of the universe
I first knew Blancmange listening to 'Mange Tout', back in the eighties. I was living in Japan at the time, and it was a Japanese LP. It seems to me that the mix on this particular song was slightly different.
The video is for the shorter single version, which is remixed. It's different from the 'Mange Tout' LP version. In America, our version of the 'Mange Tout' LP contained the 12" mix of this song. Sire Records did that with Depeche Mode and Yazoo too.
@@cdpetee thanks, good explanation. I eventually acquired the US LP, and noticed the difference there, but didn't realize it was a 12 inch mix.
and so Marilyn French became Barbara Cartland ... and later became Margaret Attwood in the version by Meryl Streep!
Absolutely Brilliant!
Always loved this 80s music was pure bliss
ABBA's version is women's point of view on solitude and expectation and Blancmange's is man's point of view . more sarcastic considering distrust in real woman's emotions . As if she missed him so much that her life was just a routine , not really worth of living and his response is something like "yeah ,sure" . Actions , no small-talk .
Great song. I. Love it.
Would really really love a new album guys....
There are songs that shouldn't be covered. The Day Before You Came is one of them. The cover isn't bad, but it doesn't convey the feeling that the original creates. You can't cover or replace Agnetha.
Their cover is not bad but I still prefer ABBA's.
Sensacional... Perfeita, melhor até que a original.
