    Any tips on re-installing the water pump?

    • @jackalninezeronine
      @jackalninezeronine Год назад

      Use a wrench to jam across two bolts on the pulley to keep it form turning and only loosen the bolts one at a time without removing them until they are all hand removeable. Tightening is the same. Buy a headlamp, a haynes manual, (or download it), and make sure to learn how to navigate it. Also, it's best to have a cheap set of box end wrenches for breaking things loose (like a stanley set), a 3/8 torque wrench (like a Lexivon), and terry cloths for prepping gasket surfaces. I like rubbing alcohol for degreasing because it is gentler than brake parts cleaner or acetone.

    • @cupompa
      @cupompa Год назад

      @@jackalninezeronine Thanks man. To break the bolts loose I kept the alternator belt on to keep the water pump pulley from spinning. Then I could remove by hand easily after removing the alternator belt. Had to lift the engine a little higher to take that pulley off because of the frame on the Eclipse. Taking off the old water pump was easy but installing a brand new Gates water pump? Oh boy, that was difficult. During that install here's my tip to anyone reading this: First follow @Nick Pongallo's advice and do put on some thin silicone to keep the paper gasket in place on the water pump. Then, when the gasket is stable and you are reinstalling the new water pump, go ahead and install the 3 bottom bolts of the water pump onto the engine block hand tight. Your water pump is on somewhat but you'll see that the coolant pipe is like off by a few millimeters to the left and it's not lined up properly to insert into the new water pump. I used a metal bristle brush with a wooden handle as a pry bar against the alternator and the coolant pipe to line it up to the water pump. It worked perfectly. While you are prying, thread the remaining bolts into the water pump and then torque to 11 foot pounds. But 11 foot pounds ain't much so be careful not to strip those bolts into the engine block. Because if you do well I can't help you. Good luck.

    Can you use a makeshift tool for cam tensioner pulley after new belt is installed

    • @Nick84349861785
      @Nick84349861785  6 лет назад

      You could try something it's just 2 holes that need to get rotated to apply the tension to the belt possible 2 dowels and then a flat blade screw driver between both of them and then the tension that way.

      I bet money that it's the crankshaft position sensor or crankshaft position sensor plate. One of them is on backwards, therefore it's not making contact. Those two parts work together to make the spark for the plugs. I had the same problem. And I made the same mistake twice. The plate is concave. Actually there is a small notch cut in it so you can tell which way it goes. If you put that wrong, the notch will not line up. The position sensor magnet slides in behind the plate. Mitsubishi discontinued that part so if you find one, hang on to it. The part from the dealership is scarce. I could not find one and had to go to the junkyard Pull-a-Part. Luckily, the part worked. Good luck.
