I found the string didn't take up enough water into the plant and I ended up with the soil drying out. So I had to water from the top. Using baby wipes works better. Nice idea though. I have an idea of connecting a funnel to the top of the horizontal bottle as a rain catcher to automatically refill it for you.

The rope is made of cotton, the water will flow through the rope and in to the soil so the plants will be feed :)

Has anyone tried this and can verify that it works? It just doesn't seem to me like jute would be able to wick up enough water for this to work as it implies it will.
