LCD Soundsystem will always be the dance kings of New York but I respect The Dare for trying. It's not nearly as good but it's not bad either. There's just more depth to LCD. They make you fall in love, while The Dare is kind of this quick charming one night stand kind of thing. Also, there have been better LCD influenced esque bands in the past that actually are really good. Holy Ghost, Cut Copy, and De Lux to name a few. Actually De Lux is most similar to The Dare imo. Their album Voyage is a one of a kind and their song Oh Man The Future.
Well I guess the main difference is that the early music LCD used to make was, on the surface, party music but underneath was a critique of party culture whereas the dare seems to buy into those ideas of party culture and embraces them as he finds it liberating
It’s just that when you try to emulate music of yesteryear to this degree, the authenticity isn’t there and it sounds “try hard” because it’s literally just trying to emulate a culture but in turn reduces it to nothing more than an aesthetic because music is a reflection of any time period and trying to revitalize the music when cultures have changed is just corny to me like why.
