You two are definitely not crazy. In fact I think your outlook or should I say, philosophy of life makes perfect sense. I hope your children have inherited your wisdom. I am 83 and after 55 years of happy marriage have just lost my husband. We were lucky, we worked together in a job we loved and shared the same philosophy of life. We didn't have much stuff but have children and grandchildren who love us. We traveled as much as we could and enjoyed being together. I hope you will go on living, really living I mean, the way you describe. Good luck and best of wishes for your future.
Valerie, thankyou so much for your kind words. Sorry to hear you've recently lost your husband. Memories are to cherish forever, and you certainly have those.
❤
We plan to make the best of the rest of our lives😊
@@mavisgetsabout interesting vlog, so I subscribed but … nothing 🤷♀️
Get filming your adventures for all the ones living vicariously through you!!
I’m wondering how chilly you find it in winter having all that glass? Brrrrr 🥶
Ya hubster mentioned how he would have filled them in and cherry picked where the windows went, do you plan to retrospectively do that? It’d make good content?? Just a thought. 🎥
You can park anywhere you want in England?
Yes they’re gypsies
this one seems authentic watched many others and it feels forced
I have not had a TV in 14 years. I spent that time exercising and walking. It's so refreshing to get out and walk and get the exercise instead of filling your mind with rubbish from the TV. Of course a lot of my walking was done after sundown but it was still much better than not getting any exercise at all.
Obviously RUclips too 😜
Lovely interaction between this couple. Really enjoyed it. So proud of your bus being named after dave's grandmother
.😊..you are doing what she couldnt. All best. X
I think the lockdown period gave a lot of people time to reflect on their lives past, present and future and for some an opportunity to change their lives for the better. Lovely couple and a lovely home, Bravo.
Well done to you both.
I did the same 3 years ago and its changed my life for the better 10 times over. Sold up, converted a van, quit work and now live cheap and happy.
Do you camp in one place and pay ? Or keep moving around? I want to do this so much.
@djpamelamc I don't stay in one place, I park at reservoirs or quiet places out of the way, I live close to the hills so there are places so I can rotate. I feel I go fairly unnoticed, I have a long wheel base van that I converted that has everything you'd need- I go gym for showers although I did build a shower that's now a storage/wardrobe space.
Deisel heater for warmth and I upgraded to lithium batteries so I now never run out of power, van charges when I drive or start the engine and I put solar on top so summer it tops up if I go away and park up for days.
Love this! I started 8 months ago. Hoping to do it as long as you. SO FREEING!
All these van videos people seem to have a lot of money behind them
Sounds so peaceful and tranquil. Do you have a toilet? So sorry for late reply as just reading this now. Hope you are having a beautiful day. @@Tiggy808
I a lived in England before life became so expensive and loved it. I don't think I could afford to live there now. I love your home-on-wheels. It is beautifully done and befitting your great personalities. At 76 now, I decided two years to give up my 2500 square foot home in Virginia, bought a late model cargo van and did the no build build myself...just moved all of my camping and backpacking gear into it. I absolutely love my nomadic lifestyle having traveled across our nation. After over 30,000 miles I've explored almost the entire West Coast states of Washington, Oregon and California. After my housesitting commitment (free rent), I plan to explore the entire Southwest corner of the U.S. and parts of Mexico. I will base in New Mexico where for a one year fee of $225 I can live in any one of 30+ state parks for 14 days at one , move onto the next. My daughter lives in a tiny studio in San Diego (beautiful though and a beautiful location) for almost $1300 a month! Ridiculously expensive!
Fantastic. Enjoy your adventures😊
Absolutely with you on this, the cost of living is ridiculous. I’m sick of giving all my money to the government, utilities and landlords. This is not living.
When my daughter flies the nest in the next few years I’ll be doing exactly this, finding my freedom.
Love the video, every motorhome owners dream ! Or is it? My wife and I have had three motorhomes over thirty years and really loved the life. At 73 we sold our last one after having it for ten years from new. What would be our options now if we had sold our home ? We have been mortgage free for 27 years and although I always earned a good living we couldn’t possibly have a reasonable life now on todays cost of renting . I would advise anybody who is thinking of going full timing to rent their homes instead of selling them unless of course they can still somehow make a good living to keep up with the stupid cost of buying a home. I don’t want to sound negative but eventually everybody gets old and now my wife and I are 77 we look back on our motor-homing days wistfully . Best wishes to you both for all your future adventures.
Chris
I for one think they have a good life style ..for Them. But for me i do like our Paid off Land and House. we have 2 camp trailers. a 24' and a 17'. the 17' isnt the inside living quarters. but love that camp trailer. Love the other one too. we revamped it when we bought it very well worn out.. but i think it could be revamped again. Again i love their story, and it got me to thinking about Our story. even retired we are in a rut.
I see your point but the problem with owning in old age is that there is no way to spend or live off the capital tied up in the house. I'm now 65. I sold my flat 15 years ago and invested the money in simple, do nothing, well diversified ETF funds. The income from the invested funds (without touching the capital) easily covers the rent yet also leaves me the option of withdrawing and spending some, or all, of the capital as and when I want. I also have the freedom to move to more suitable accommodation or a different area should I wish. Owning until death means dying rich and I can't see any way around that except renting.
Renting a paid off house is definitely my way of doing it.
That way I get a £1200 monthly income from it & still own it if I desire to go back living there, plus it's an asset for the kids.
It's a no brained for me & I think for many, the better way.
Even with a mortgage outgoing, rentals are high & so there will always be enough to pay the monthly mortgage, plus have money over.
For me it's also a purpose built motorhome from new, instead of a built camper.
The differences are huge in insulation, winterisation, tried & tested design/layouts available, durability, functionality, economy etc etc etc.
Got to ask yourself, is great used £20-50k motorhome better than an equivalent cost homemade camper.
@@keepitreal1547the disadvantage of purpose built campers is that they are obviously just that. As, here in the UK at least, it's illegal to camp in one anywhere other than on a designated site, the potential for using one elsewhere is limited. A converted van can more easily be used as a stealth camper.
@@adm58
I agree & that's the only disadvantage I can see, but that said any self made camper with windows can & is seen as an overnight dwelling...& so exactly the same as a motorhome.
Eg, the one this lovely couple has, is 100% a camper for travelling in & sleeping in.
They & hundreds more like them hardly use sights. Park4night & other apps cater for all vehicles, regardless. Plus there's thousands of places in the UK, off the beaten track.
In Wales this summer, I got chatting to a guy who's lived off grid in his old motorhome for the past 12years & will continue to do so, he says.
Anything vehicle that is or looks like someone could be living in it will always get attention, the secret is not to attract attention by rubbing peoples noses in it. The only way not to get attention, is to deck out a van but have no windows.
Great to meet another couple who’ve seen the Light! Love Mavis, name and build👍👏
Thankyou, we love her❤
You cannot put a price on true freedom. It takes a lot of courage to unlock the shackles of what is viewed by the majority as 'normal'. If I was 20 years younger I also would be joining you on the road into the unknown.
I had so many mixed emotions to begin with, but so so glad we made the leap😊
What a sweet couple 😊
You guys need to do a RUclips channel. You have definitely made me and my husband think about how we live our lives. Good luck to you both. X
This couple have got life sorted, great story & i wish them a the very very best.
They're so righ about the people you meet while on your travels, they're the best kind of people & are happier people. You instantly click with them because you're of the same mindset, doing the same thing & been through the same process to get you there.
Lovely couple with a great outlook on life. The van is great. What a wounderful rich life.
That's nice of you to say, thankyou😊
Dave and Emily are truly inspirational people and valued friends. Both John and I wish you all the very best as your adventures take you further afield and safe travels 🤍 🚌
Ahh, thanks Kerry. We'd have never have met you guys if we'd not bought Mavis... So glad we did😊. Friends for life❤️
Great! I'm proud of you both. Ime looking to do the same thing.

You guys are living life, you've sussed it out, what's important & what's not.
On the build, what size is the engine please, plus the length of it in total bumper to bumper?
What cost in total, including vehicle purchase?
How economical to run?
Are you mainly travelling the UK? How are you finding the very cold snap we're having?
Hope you don't mind the questions.
Great build, great people, great attitude. From Australia.
Thankyou so much😊
Amazing!
Such a nice build, me and the mrs gave up everything last year and moved into our crafter! It's been the best thing we ever did our family's thought we was crazy
(only down side is only been able to spend 3months at a time in Europe)
When it's rubbish weather in England
It's not for everyone, but those that give it a go, love it😊
The 3months in 6months is the only downside & a big one for me, as I like the warmer weathers, but still we can only hope an agreement to relax things is made by those European countries & this shocking government asap.
Spain are desperately wanting to open things back up for ease of travel, but are the Torries even interested?
Awesome build guys, hard work and dedication has truly paid off,. Escape the rat race and glad you are enjoying your lives to the full. can’t wait to start working on my bus again soon, maybe I will see you guys on the road sometime
Thankyou, yeah maybe see you around somewhere😊
Enjoyed listening to you as we've just done exactly this.. we bought a brand new L4H3 Iveco Daily and converted it into a winterised completely off grid liveable home in the first half of 2023. We had 3 months in France last summer and felt exactly like you, really chilled and relaxed. When we went back to the UK, sold all our cars and furniture etc and moved out of our house. My wife has a part time remote job with an employer that is happy for her to work from anywhere in the world. I've retired early and I'm writing this from a ski resort in the Alps where we'll be until the end of March.
This is heavenly. Your storage is amazing. Beautiful home❤
Thankyou😊
Great video! What a great insight into van life! Good luck in your adventure xx
Thankyou sister, you're welcome to visit any time, we'll see you when we get back from Europe😊 xx
One of the best videos about transition from a traditional house into living the full & travel👌 Emily and Dave saying a lot of valuable things that many people should hear - even if they wouldn’t choose live „on wheels”. Absolutely brilliant video! Well done guys and good luck! 👏🍀
I really like this channel with a crisp introduction, good filming, and great stories... always looking forward to your new posts! Thanks for providing these insights!
It's not called television PROGRAMING for nothing.
Programming.
What a lovely build. Lots of clothes storage. I like all the windows. Thanks for sharing.
Thankyou😊
Beautiful job, love the pull down blind . You won’t loose any money on that because it costs about 20k a year for House living.
How do you manage for example me and my husband have to have repeat prescriptions drs Dentist this sort of thing to have these things you have to have a registered address things like this stop us living this life 🤗👍
We still have a uk address. For this reason. Drs prescribe medication for 3 months
@@mavisgetsabout thank you 💚
Wow,, very , very , and extremely talented and hard working. Beyond words. Big smiles when you walk inside and look at what you have created. Just amazing !! Super nice couple too !!
lovely couple down to earth thankyou for your time steve and nam thailand
Great video, wishing you all the best on your travels. The Collie is gorgeous xx
Inspirational.
Slowly working towards this, to scared to sell up in the crazy Aussie housing market but hopefully can make it work rented out. The rat race of suburbia is exactly right, soul destroying
Instead of selling up, what about renting your property out?
@@keepitreal1547 yes that's the aim, in Australia costs have gone nuts so currently eroding equity while fixing the house but hopefully sort it.
@@Spoonfed78
Renting mine out returns me £1200 sterling per month, which is more than enough to travel & live, eat comfortably. With money over.
Plus it still gives me the security of still owning the house, to move back to or an asset for the kids.
Selling it would only mean me eating into the funds & such funds slowly depleting.
The life is the same while living in my motorhome, the way to go about it, requires serious thought though.
Don't know what else I can say that I don't normally say about your content 😂. I should just copy and paste haha..
But anyway....it was ok😂😂
Seriously, it was yet another fantastic vid. Just when I thought you couldn't raise the bar any higher...
I really enjoyed it and could relate to what Dave & Emily were saying about living on the road in whatever vehicle you've got.
People who you meet who then become friends and enrich your life, it's brilliant..
Thank you once again for producing a very interesting & enjoyable vid... long may it continue 👍🏻😁
Thanks for the kind words Alan 🙏 🙌
More people will be doing this soon, working class people are just a joke to pay tax to fund people who dont work or come here illegally. In the UK you live to work not work to live.
What a lovely couple and a lovely story. Best of luck for the future.
I want to do this so much. Though where do you camp if you know what l mean? Do you stay in one place or just keep moving around in your van?
Great built and great couple. They're so laid back and so relaxed. It made me feel calm and relaxed watching them and makes me want to go out and buy me one 🤗
Teşekkür ederim çok açıklayıcı bir video, keyifle izledim
Yes be happy, way to go guys. Being outside it’s so good for us
your living my dream, just another two years if im still alive,il have enough finances to buy a camper van, in all my 57 years i can honestly say ive never had good neighbours, im sick of it,plus like you say,it's just too expensive to live in a house or flat, so it would be wonderful for me to do this ,good luck on your travels 😀👍🚙
These people seem like a lovely couple and have found a lifestyle that really suits them and would suit many other people. I would have liked more information on the kind of places they stay at, how long they generally stay in one place and what kind of place this video was shot. Were they staying on a farmer's property who they paid a small fee to? It looks spectacular.
I'm in US and this how people here feel all we do is work and repeat, congrats on escaping the rat race ...I have a travel trailer toyhauler trying to get lost as much as possible
Another great video, what a beautiful couple and a stunning bus. Watching this was like watching a mirror image of our lives 😂😂😂😂👍🏻 sending love, peace and good energy ❤️🙏🏻
Thanks so much 😊
Very awesome build. Love it!! Take care. 💜

When you get your campervan insured what is the answer to "where is the vehicle kept overnight". Also what address do you have on you've driving licence and other important things like bank statement when needing to prove your address. I hope someone knows. PS. That is a really really nice build ... luv it 😊
We still have a uk address
@@mavisgetsabout Thanks for letting me know, I thought you'd sold up. So, it's a question I'll have to ask elsewhere. Cheers.
@glynmoore3730 we sold the house we lived in for 20 years, but have the use of another if needed. It gives us an address to use, which makes things easier for banking/insurance/GPs etc..
Really love your bus! ❤ We’re in the planning stages to be retired and living van life in the next 16-18 months 🎉 You said your compost toilet was great but can I ask where do you take it to empty it please? 🙏
Great stuff, you've made a wise decision.i lost my bricks 15 years ago and have been on road since.Enjoy life is for living not working..peace at ya both x
Thankyou😊
How do you find places to stay and what are the annual costs you pay for rent?
We use park for night app to find places to stay overnight, mostly free park-ups campsites if we are feeling flush🤣. We've given ourselves a budget for the year. Until we've actually done a year though we won't know exactly. What I do know is, it's a whole lot cheaper than running a house, and we get to see some beautiful places😊🚐
I'm sold. Selling the house. X
Really well filmed and interesting. Thanks for sharing your buslife journey 😊

So good too see people do this. 😊I’m thinking the same but will rent my house out as at least then i can still get an income or would just spend all the money.
I think more people just want a simple life. Away from big brother

Not Mardy any more! 😎 so good to hear people who are thinking like us. We thought we were bonkers talking about selling and living differently. Nice bus too.
loved this ,what do you do for work now guys? i would love this in future but would want the option to earn a little as i travel.the build is amazing😊
I have been lucky enough to be able to retire, Dave is semi retired. He has work lined up on farms for the summer months in the UK June-Sept.
Very cozy! And adorable dogs!
Is parking something this size discreetly and sleeping unbothered difficult ?
Love your way of life the set up is fantastic love your home enjoy life and stay safe

OK, so it's a 4 cylinder 4.2 ltr, and running at about 20 mile to the gallon.

You could do with a Ninja speedi we bought ours about 3 years ago since then we have never used the cooker. Rice and chicken drum stickes 15 minutes, home made cheese scones 12 minutes most meals can be cooked in 15 minutes.
Very nice build and fun people😄
Sure beats living on the streets! Don't like the neighbors, crank over the engine, put the 'house' into gear and drive over to some beach of quiet lake/loch setting!
Life can be sweet!!!
Fully agree, I now hate the idea of a house.
so where do you park your home base etc or is it mobile ? GREAT VIDEO and info thumbs up !
