Thanks for the tip. I had seen you folding it, but was scared of damaging it. Now I feel better about it :D
Wonderful tip. I was actually having this challenge. Thank you.
Awesome tip! Sometimes someone just needs to point out the obvious!
My surface pro type cover keyboard died during one of the Windows updates and I've had no success resuscitating it after many Windows reboots / reinstalls, so I've been using a bluetooth keyboard ever since and I have to say, a separate keyboard feels better!
This way, I can have the surface close to me to write/sketch, and since im right handed, my left hand is wrapped around my surface where I have the keyboard for typing / hotkey shortcuts etc.
I found this a better experience but then again, it wasn't by choice in the first place lol
Good tips man, thanks
Great Tip! Thank you
This is an important tip. I do this all the time, especially when reading/annotating a PDF or taking notes in OneNote. I prefer writing with the Surface Pro not flat on the desk but at a bit of an angle. It's more comfortable for me and I think it's one of the reasons that the kickstand goes so far down/flips so far out.
Nice tip! and it is kind of funny that I saw this video since I miss some of my letters on my alcatara keyboard, which am kind of short money to get me a new one, this tip will help me a lot... thanks keep up with the great work guys 👍👍👍👌👌👌
Hi oztabletpc
My surface keyboard not functional whenever I want it to be more robust by make it flat level with it table or whatever surface it on. Is it normal? If I remember correctly it can type in 2 modes, flat and lifted.
BTW, I'm not hearing the motorbike's sound at all. At least on my phone's speaker
Not sure about your keyboard issue. I'd check the connectors to make sure they're connected right. We edited out the motorbike noise and did another take ;-)
I don't dare to do that. My Surface Pro X keyboard failed within 6 months of usage. and I actually take off the keyboard if I don't need it. rarely do it like you said.
You're welcome to use it how you see fit. It is designed to do exactly this though and I've been using my Pro X this way for 10 months now. No problem! That said, here in Australia our warranty period is a minimum of 2 years. Much better than the warranty terms offered in the US.
Had the same problem a few months back with keyboard totally not working or charging my slim pen (now that hurt), then the dog chewed the pen (because I left it on the desk). I just bought another SPX keyboard and Pen combi. Having seen Brett's reply below I'll check my warranty and see about a replacement keyboard for a spare.
🤣🤣🤣 this video is priceless... As a surface user for several years... Seeing review videos never touch on that fact is hilarious! 🤣🤣
Do you have solution for keyboard not working after 1 year.....it is not even damaged but start loosing connection totally....even after updating the driver it does not solve my problem, kindly help.
My surface keyboard was damaged by the keyboard fabric peeling off. I think many surface users have this problem. Please suggest something for that
Unfortunately, that is common in hot climates. The glue that holds the fabric together does not survive continual heat and gives way over a couple of years from what I have seen. I live in a cool climate and do not have the problem.
@@oztabletpc thank you
The folding after effect - my sp keyboard sometimes not able to connect to the tablet instantly and need to detach and reattached... just user beware !! This happened after nearly 13 monrhs of frequent folding .
Sorry to hear that your keyboard failed. It most likely didn't fail because of the folding. More likely electrostatic or some kind of damage. They're specifically designed to fold. But they do cop a lot of punishment.
One major issue about Surface keyboard is that the alcantara fabric starts ripping off from the edges. The keyboard starts looking patchy and ugly which effects the overall premium look of the laptop. I tried looking around for some solutions like protective keyboard cover/case sorts but couldn't find any. Is there anything anybody can suggest?
My right arrow keycap just fell off on it's own after just 1 month. I am honestly dissapointed...
@@andersmorille7653 get it replaced, its under warranty
I haven't heard of issues like this happening much. Do you live in a hot climate? Is there anything in your environment that you think might be causing it?
@@oztabletpc I live in India, does hot weather effect it? I have seen a woman once with a Surface Pro 3 in a Cafe and she had the same issue. It's like the foreskin of our hands peeling off. I feel that the issue is because of how the edges of the keyboard is sealed. That 1 mm edge that runs across the keyboard, when it comes in contact with the hands or when the laptop is kept inside the bag. I could show you in a photograph.
My nephew in Queensland (sub-tropical area) told me about a similar issue, but I have not seen it here in Melbourne (temperate climate). I suspect that the glue is debonding with hotter weather. I'd take it up under warranty if it's possible.
Sorry i have a question: would this ruin the keys on the keyboard because of the pressure you are putting?
Not for me. Been doing it like this for 5 years on my Surface Pros. Obviously you can't be too rough with it.
I've been using this tip for over 2 years now, recently the typecover was undetected in uplift condition, today the typecover undetected at all.....do you have another tip to help please?
What type of Surface do you have?
@@oztabletpc surface pro 6
Ok. Unfortunately I don't have any tips then, apart from the usual (restart your computer, check the connections, unplug and plug it in again, try another keyboard if you have access to one). The keyboards do cop a bit of wear and tear. It may have failed for any number of reasons. If needed, you can replace the keyboard with a new or second hand one. Any keyboard from Surface Pro 3 to the current model will work.
PS, I actually have an old faulty one here that a friend gave me. I have been thinking about doing a teardown video for it. So you might just inspire me to take a closer look.
@@oztabletpc at least a positive thing came out of this 😊. You might want to review how to clean the alcatara since it change color over time. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks
I like taking notes flat but everytime I do my surface heats up. So, I begrudgingly write a little elevated.
Reduce the apps running at start up and in the background, and try running in battery saver mode. Rudeuce power consumption = reduce heat.
@@oztabletpc Great advice for anyone/any situation/device!
You truly are most helpful mister~ being socially awkward is plenty for me =) Good grief, so silly the things we don't realize until pointed out.
I came looking for the best replacement keyboard I should buy for my SP5, as it came w/a cheapo version the fella at the computer shop added to it for a quick sale, as it was a trade-in from someone who had just bought a newer SurfacePro.
*Any info on keyboard replacement - OR, if best to get an actual Microsoft SurfacePro keyboard instead- is greatly appreciated 👍🐱🏍 Thx so much & have an awesome wknd! ~Samantha in AZ
*Almost forgot~ I watched your posts re; pens, & which ones do what, based on preferences, etc. Just curious if you have a favorite among them all, and/or if the original Microsoft pen might still be the best choice? Obviously, I bought my unit w/out a pen, & now finally looking to get that item, as well as a better keyboard=) Thanks again~ any input welcome~ Sam
I'm a fan of the renaisser pens and the surface park that came out work the pro 5. I like the Surface Type covers, and I've always been a Microsoft keyboard fan in general.
I love your chanel, but you did a video to explain this...?
To many it is obvious. To the majority it is not. When I run corporate training on Surface Pro this concept is almost universally unknown.
Does it increase the chance of breaking the keyboard since you are folding it a lot?
I've never broken one in 6 years. It's designed for it.
@@oztabletpc Thanks for the reply 👍
Won't doing it ruin the keyboard?
It's designed to do this.
@@oztabletpc can I use a surface go keyboard with my surface pro 7? I made a mistake and bought the wrong keyboard.
@@Gamer-fl6lt no, sorry. The connections are different.
at surface i can hold hand ...
it will detach mines is a buisness keyboard is flexable
Sorry, mate, "ditch" ≠ "fold". I do the latter all the time.
I hate to admit that I wouldn't have clicked here unless I was wondering "why does this guy want me to ditch my beloved Surface keyboard?"
Unfortunately, that means you're now on my click bait radar.
You'll see in the comments that many (actually most) Surface users do not know that the Keyboard turns off when you fold it back. Also worth noting that well over half the Surface Pros sold are in corporate accounts, not to retail. So those people are not really invested in Surface since they were just given the device and forced to use it. My mission is to get people using pen based tablets so that they can get the benefit of taking handwritten notes on a computer. If it takes a little click-bait to get people to know how to do that effectively, so be it. Although, I would not categorize this as click-bait since I'm using ditch in the sense of 'stop using it all the time!'
Who the hell has the time to collect a list of click-baity vloggers? And have you seen the rest of the videos on this channel? Are any of the others even remotely click bait? Seriously, get a puppy.
I didnt know this lol so thank you for the video
@@oztabletpc ...and we are truly grateful that you take the time & effort to do so, thank you.
