    Dont let some of these comments get you down Simon. Commenting on someones unboxing video to say you bought a crappy product is a crappy thing to do. The S40 are a beautiful sounding speaker with many, many positive reviews. No speaker is perfect. These are very good for the price and that McIntosh amp will really make them sing. Have fun.

    Just bought a pair of Dynaudios and they're amazing. I hope you've been enjoying your pair. I bought a pair of Isoacoutics Gaia for the speakers and I noticed that you didn't have isolation to decouple to speaker from the surface. Just wanted to mention that. It makes a big difference.

    I hope you enjoy your purchase. I sold mine due to a lack of proper internal speaker bracing.The mdf used is not thick enough which causes internal vibrations affecting the sound quality.. 40's perform well with music that does not have complex passages. Best for Jazz, and classical. I've learned the heavier the component - less vibration which equates to better sound quality. For 3000 new its not special at all in my opinion.. Saving up for a used pair of Joseph Audio Pulsars.

      Thanks for the feedback. In this price range I found them appealing, and the competition I was looking at (ATC SCM19, Harbeth 30.2) is similarly priced (but not as visaully attractive). I would have preferred big and heavy floorstanders, but my listening room doesn't allow that. I'm also a newcomer on the audiophile scene, so with more experience I might have opted for something different.

    • @auggysimcity
      @auggysimcity 2 года назад +3

      @@simondemsar1766 harbeth 30.2 would be a better choice. Especially if you have the 40s against the wall. 30.2 have a front port bass extension. They will not sound as bloated with deep bass.

    • @auggysimcity
      @auggysimcity 2 года назад +1

      Agreed. Harbeth has a front firing bass port. Some Sonus Faber implements that as well. The 40’s are beyond bloated. Regardless of what you do.. speaker placement. Stuffing the ports etc. it’s a overhyped speaker. I’ll never purchase new speakers again. Imagine what you could obtain used for the price of the 40’s. There is a reason they make the speakers light in weight. Shipping cost. That adds up tremendously. At the moment
      freight containers are now demanding top tier price for use. Prices never before seen in the shipping market. Best to purchase asap. Once the price goes up. It never goes down. Well except Petrol when American senators, congress, etc. are running for re-election.
      Anyways. There are speakers 3 times the price of new 40’s. One can purchase used if one waits patiently. I’d feel that’s the best alternative.

      Additionally. Support local manufacturers. Kef is now owned by a company overseas. So is Dynaudio. You think the umbrella company won’t start slashing quality order quantity. They already did!

      @simondemsar1766  2 года назад +1

      Genivaldo, thanks for reply. In simple terms - yes, I'm very happy with the set up. I miss some bass, which might be due to a fairly large room for these speakers - 32 sq. meters. So I'm seriously thinking about adding a subwoofer. I have one on loan and the difference is significant. On the other hand, I need to emphasize that I'm not very experienced as this is my first serious set up, so I have nothing to compare it to.

    • @simondemsar1766
      @simondemsar1766  2 года назад +1

      Harbeths were a serious contender. In fact, it came down to Harbeth 30.2 and Dynaudio S40. Unfortunately I didn't have an opportunity to audition the Harbeths but I also didn't have the listening experience back then. If I knew that near field listening would be my reality it would have given them an even more serious consideration. Thanks for your comment.

      @@simondemsar1766 thanks for the reply,I had started my audiophile journey with p3esr and ended it with superhl5plus,all the other brands I tried are just a minor tweaks regardless of price and size,while moving to harbeth don't forget to use taller stands and huge toe in woofers almost facing listeners cheeks and most important of all is the placement of standalone acoustic panel total 4 per side one at the rear and front and two flanking the listener on each side,the experience is magical.so far in my journey I had learned literally there is no purity of sound but only the proximity of the artist and musicians,which I achieved through p3esr , superhl5plus and standalone acoustic panels.
