I'm so glad you watched these, and enjoyed them so much. When they came out, their impact was huge, emotionally, aesthetically (the posters from these are insanely beautiful), and artistically esp relating to filling in more of the BU. Trying to tell these stories in a full, logical way isn't going to work; the stories are purposely vague though much is suggested. There are pieces of information presented, and you can fill in the gaps as you wish. The girls are all different, and get into a really deeper level of theory as to who they are/what they represent. Some believe they relate to the basis of a later era, Map Of the Soul, from in large part Karl Jung's theory of the map of the soul, and that the girls might represent the animus of each of the guys. Again, theory only. As to the culmination of all of those moments where everyone's happiness is shattered, going with the idea that Jin has mastered time travel, he's been trying to go back and fix the problems the guys have endured before, but as you see him driving to meet the girl, he's aware that it's all falling apart even though he's not with them, when his face shows concern and he shakes his head, as though saying "it can't be happening (again)". As far as I understand, in time travel lore, there are what are known as fixed events that can't be reversed, so some events probably relate to that, but also the inevitability of nothing going back to the way it was. Something always goes wrong, no matter how many times Jin tries to fix things. Again, theories only.
I can definitely vouch for the emotional impact, I sobbed like a child on the third one because of the music when I first watched it and I still have goosebumps everytime I watch it
Yes, there's a lot about fixed points in time in time travel (and also different points of view about if time can or cannot be rewritten). I'm not an specialist but I watched and read a lot of Doctor Who content and it's one of the things that it's talked a lot, especially because the Doctor always suffer when it's impossible to save people because of fixed points in time. I think with the time travel, Jin learned that it's not that easy to "fix" things.
At first I thought Alex's reactions were bland because I was so used to other reactors yelling at my face but now I get slightly proud and happy when Alex gives a pleased look or his "oohuhuhu", feels like I am actually getting a genuine reaction. Also you are getting better at identifying the members and storyline and as an ARMY that means a lot.

I scrolled down the comments and nobody mentioned it so BTS have two albums “map of the soul: persona” and “map of the soul: 7” which have 3 songs intro: persona , interlude: shadow and outro: ego. These two albums where inspired by Carl Jung’s 4 Theories : Persona ( ego ), Shadow, Anima/Animus, The Self. You can look it up if you’re interested, but my point here is that I think the highlight reels represent the Anima/Animus part “The anima and animus are described in Carl Jung's school of analytical psychology as part of his theory of the collective unconscious. This concept shows every two members are related to each other for example Suga and JK, RM and V, Jhope and Jimin while Jin is their life saver or something as it happened in Film out,you can notice in their other short films how those members are together. And also notice the red book and white flowers are shown in almost every music video, some people said that the red book is a realistic book for someone and by this book bts got inspired for their concept. In the the book are so many topics written and bts are literally explaining every topic as a music video for example blood sweat and tears which is about the 7 sins every member was reincarnate a sin.
I think the jin actually realizes that he was trying to be a different person to fit the patterns of the girl in the diary, and when it all happened he goes back in time again. he realizes he must love himself

I can kinda see what he says about Jin being preoccupied with the girl but at the same time, all of the other members were in their own world as well. And mind that Jin was the only one with a picture of all of them together! Id just like to say there is a lot of theories when it comes to jhope and jimins story. Some think jimin was in love with hobi and was jealous of the girl while others think jhope and hobi was inlove with the girl. Both theories make since in my opinion.
For me I got the vibe that Jimin was in love with Hobi's girl 🤷🏻♀️ I also think that JK and Suga's characters were in love with each other but denied their true feelings, again just my opinion.

I just wanted to add to Jin’s story, in The Notes it’s revealed that Jin tries countless times with this girl. (what I mean is glass keeps breaking therefore time is reversed) Even when he manages to save the girl from getting hit, something always goes wrong having him start from square one again. He goes through this loop so many times, completing the list from the girls notebook over and over. To the point where in one timeline, the girl talks to him about how he seems tired and/or insincere, resulting in her breaking up with him. Eventually, Jin decides to immediately give back the notebook the girl dropped instead of creating a relationship with her.

This series is connected to Jung psychology - and if I attempt to simplify the theme of Highlight Reel I would go with: girls represent the ANIMA, the unconscious part of each boy. Something they are not exactly aware of, but that is still part of them, sth that is needed to make them complete. Like with V - he has a broken family: abusive, drunk father, a mother who left him. This is what we know and see on the outside. But with the girl, he clearly shows he can care about someone, who can sacrifice something for someone, who is ready to protect and long for trust and companionship. He shows this with the way he treats the Girl. So the Girl is a way to portray those parts of boys, they might not be fully aware of, but definitely are part of them. Also, it seems like Girls are the ones who help them heal - it would fit with the narration that you need YOURSELF to heal.

I already cried when Tear would started during the tours, even before knowing the history of it. But now when I listen to it, I'm absolutely gutted.

I can kinda see what he says about Jin being preoccupied with the girl but at the same time, all of the other members were in their own world as well. And mind that Jin was the only one with a picture of all of them together! (Im all informed about BU and read the webtoon too) i just think it’s so interesting to see his point of view and that makes me see it from a different perspective than the one I already had. Id just like to say there is a lot of theories when it comes to jhope and jimins story. Some think jimin was in love with hobi and was jealous of the girl while others think jhope and hobi was inlove with the girl. Both theories make since in my opinion.
For me I got the vibe that Jimin was in love with Hobi's girl 🤷🏻♀️ I also think that JK and Suga's characters were in love with each other but denied their true feelings, again just my opinion.
The the girl with J-hope and Jimin is Ryujin , she is from ITZY , a girl group under JYP and Stray Kids are also under JYP.

I just wanted to add to Jin’s story, in The Notes it’s revealed that Jin tries countless times with this girl. (what I mean is glass keeps breaking therefore time is reversed)
Even when he manages to save the girl from getting hit, something always goes wrong having him start from square one again.
He goes through this loop so many times, completing the list from the girls notebook over and over. To the point where in one timeline, the girl talks to him about how he seems tired and/or insincere, resulting in her breaking up with him.
Eventually, Jin decides to immediately give back the notebook the girl dropped instead of creating a relationship with her.

This series is connected to Jung psychology - and if I attempt to simplify the theme of Highlight Reel I would go with: girls represent the ANIMA, the unconscious part of each boy. Something they are not exactly aware of, but that is still part of them, sth that is needed to make them complete. Like with V - he has a broken family: abusive, drunk father, a mother who left him. This is what we know and see on the outside. But with the girl, he clearly shows he can care about someone, who can sacrifice something for someone, who is ready to protect and long for trust and companionship. He shows this with the way he treats the Girl. So the Girl is a way to portray those parts of boys, they might not be fully aware of, but definitely are part of them.
Also, it seems like Girls are the ones who help them heal - it would fit with the narration that you need YOURSELF to heal.
