Yes, but since its a Federal Highway that passes over the bridge, the Federal government is supposed to fix it ASAP, not when a private firm coughs up money. The ship owners will pay some amount, but its a given whatever is put up will be meant as a showpiece, some "artistic salute to the city", costing 10 times what a replacement of the original truss bridge would cost even with all possible modern protections, and take five times as long to build. And everybody who actually sees and uses it every day will hate it.
Open borders are not our fault, but we're paying for it. Biden is not paying for anything. He's robbing America at every turn and trying to convince all of us that he's doing so much.
The insurance company for the ship that did this should be responsible for rebuilding this bridge. Why should the American taxpayer be responsible for this? MAKE SENSE PEOPLE! I MEAN COME ON.
They will pay in a "few" years.... Baltimore and the nearby area needs it rebuilt ASAP! So rebuild it now and then the Feds sue the Insurance Company if they don't cough up the money quickly!!!
Hopefully, the US at least subrogates a damage claim to the insurer of the ship. That way bridge repairs can get started while the legal fight gets worked out. And then we taxpayers won't be on the hook for this too.

Likely several large commercial insurance companies contribute to the coverage. What will happen is the MDTA will issue bonds to construct a new bridge backed by security from Congress. After a board of inquiry meets and ascertains any liability on the ship’s master, suit will be brought in US Federal Court Admiralty Division. Congress does not issue actual money to the State of Maryland. MDTA is authorized by charter to issue bonds for capital expenses such as new construction. The Federal security of the bond will be sufficient backing. The now destroyed FS Key bridge took 5 years to build. Once clean up is complete the MDTA board will authorize staff engineers to review and issue bid requests from qualified construction companies. Needless to say this will be a massive employment boon for Baltimore.
He doesn't have the guts to make the shipping company pay for it. The captain of that ship killed 6 people and should be held accountable for that as well as the company paying to rebuild.

This happened at 1:30 in the morning they didn't even try to drop the anchor. Those stop ships in coastal Waters. We'll fix it like a hero. But look how many days it took him to come out and say something about the East Palestine train wreck and the Hawaii fire. And just in time to save him in the polls with no mention of having the ships insurance company pay for it since they broke it. And the last inspection on that bridge it was given a fair grade. But it's in a blue City so I guess we don't have to worry about any investigations happening.

The way the bridge collapsed was frightening. Looking at it from an engineering pov it appears under engineered. The rule of thumb is you find the maximum safe working loads then engineer it to withstand 3 times that amount. Thoughts & condolences to the victims, their families & friends.

Why? Why a special appropriation? In 2021 the infrastructure bill was passed with $110 billion for bridges over 5 years… use those funds (if they haven’t been redirected already to some progressive “transformational” EV study or similar union padding shovel leaning boondoggle).

And where is that money going to come from? They've already spent $34 trillion more than they've received. Disasters happen. The budget should include a fund for disasters.
I think the state of Maryland should be able to file a claim against the owner of the ship. Just like if what's a automobile accident obviously the operator of the ship is at fault
