Explaining natural espers who are also the first espers in history, known as Gemstones/Uncut Gems!
Note: official translation of SS2 says George Kingdom had 'free reign over the CIA', while the fan translation says 'CIA could freely control him', I included the fan-translation in the vid but understand it goes against what I actually say in the vid lol.

If only sogita had a his own series
maybe one day....
From me to you our feelings mix and become one
One day🙏🏼
Pray Mental Out manga sells well, if it does the editorial said they will consider it
If Kamachi cares about making a shounen hype type of story
"Imagine Breaker deserves its own category of power," the series kind of sets it that way, with Kamijou being the One Above God, and even level 6 espers only reaching the level of angels and not gods
Usually knowing how quantum mechanics work irl tends to take away the magic from these kinds of power systems. Index is the only series I know in which it's actually the other way around. The more you understand about quantum physics and it's possibilities for the interpretation of reality, the more sense this power system makes. It's absolutely brilliant stuff.
💯
I know quantum physics, and it doesn't take anything away from me enjoying this, because I compartmentalize "invented-world logic" as separate from "real life", so in my "personal reality", I'm not disproving the series, but enjoying it as a separate reality. :)
@@daddy7860 The thing is, the series deeply takes into account inherent aspects of quantum mechanics and their relationship with how reality is interpreted/preceived by living organisms. Entanglement, superposition, the double-slit experiment, all of it is necessary to truly understand how the system works, plus some other great scientific, psychological, antropological and esoteric and religious concepts like placebo effect, collective unconsciousness, jungian archtypes, manifestation, faith and there's a collosal et cetera. All of it needs to be understood to truly get a grasp on how supernatural phenomena is presented in the ToAru universe. It is as close as we've gotten to "justify" magic in the most realistic way possible in fiction.
So from what I'm understanding gemstones are kind of like hybrids in a way and then people grew jealous of these gemstones and decided to create their own power which became magic and then Alistair decided to use the gemstones as a basis to create modern-day Esper's which stray far away from the original concept of gemstones
The gemstones are a very intriguing and thought provoking concept as in, it quite literally has connections to the kind of like the, "start" Of the toaru universe, do want to see what Kamachi is gonna do with them in the future.
True, Im a sucker for the lore revolving around them, just wish we knew more
@@AeonofHorus Same
Another interesting thing to note is that the Gemstone espers we have seen till now have mostly fantasy themed powers like Claire being a sentient plant or Gunha's abilities. Not to mention, there is also a chance that Takitsubo's AIM Stalker at full potential may not be able to take away Gemstone powers as Gemstone espers are essentially born with them
As Magic was initially created as a response to Gemstones this is warranted.
I wonder if only artificial espers are incapable of using magic (without severely injuring themselves). I theorize something in Academy City's process of creating esper's creates fail safe to punish espers who try to use magic (since Crowley hates the magic side). If gemstones never go through that artificial process, they may be able to use magic without hurting themselves.
The science/magic bridge seems to me to be that both are expressions of will to produce a microcosm, which makes a change in the macrocosm. In magic, the microcosm is temporarily produced in the user's mind through the use of focusing words, amulets, or rituals. In espers, through the effect of the environment or academy city, a permanent microcosm is produced in their minds, a "personal reality". This interpretation of both "sides" of the world having "hermetic flavored" magic is interesting, especially with the main antagonist being the world's most famous hermetic.
I know this video isn't specifically about Sogiita, but damn I love everytime you talk about him in a video. He's just too iconic
Excellent video. I really had zero knowledge of the Gemstones and what it involved. I feel like I can at least understand and appreciate the different layers of the story all the more for it.
My pleasure!
My current hypothesis. Is that Himigami blood probably has chemical that both symbolically and scientifically is dangerous to vampires. Equivalent coffee to animals.
I hope Sogiita Gunha and Himegami Aisa get their own spinoffs.
Real
I think the day Kamachi-sensei decided to explore the gemstone lore is the day that the Toaru franchise comes to an end. It's like in Naruto, when the chakra and ninjutsu concept's roots were finally explained, it was in the battle with Kaguya (nearing the end of the series).
Now that you mentioned that the concept of magic really resembles that of a gemstone, I think it will be the history of the whole Toaru universe explained, thus the series is coming to its final chapter. Would like to see who Touman ends up with by that point, though. 🗿
It's nice when we can talk about Theory in anime. not many anime has proper lore like Index series after all.
Very true, the Toaru universe is dense enough for it
Sogita is hidden mc of the whole series
Jame foster was right "magic is just science that we don't understand yet"
I was just thinking about gemstones after the level 5 vid, and then you make this full explanation! Hope we get the sogihta video soon as he is my favorite level 5.
Woooooooh!! I knew you gonna make a video about gemstones my man. Great video as always
Thankssss
Nice to see Aeon is still cooking!
im always in the kitchen bruh
W video as usual mate
thank you!
once again here clocking in to request a video ranking EVERY sidestory volume from worst to best
Keep the grind going chad
At first i tought accelerator was too lol
damn, this was actually hella interesting
Thanks!
Sogiita!!! He always gets me hyped
I wonder if the beginning child is a gemstone because the power program was modeled after her
I think she was the first artificial esper, then what become the power curriculum programme was modelled after her experiments
Crunchy gemstones
Does this mean natural experts can use magic since there’s no drugs involved
The necromancy girl from a certain scientific accelerator is definitely a gemstone.
you mean Esther? shes a magician
Gemstones are really cool i can't wait to see more of sogiita
more sogiita is always good
Maybe Toma’s arm was a prototype created when magic was diverting from science and he is a gemstone but he’s like a prototype version that’s why it has its relations in Magic and science
Nah IB was just created to be a safe button
3:32 HE DID WHAT?!?!?!?!
Imagine if this video was just about random ass rocks
Lmao
Was really hoping this video would be about emeralds 😔
😂😂😂
Damn,that was interesting
Thank you!
I'm always confused about gem stone espers which side they're truly but thanks to you now doubt is clear
Nice!
@@AeonofHorus how about making explain video about the first esper also other gem stone the beginning child it would be problematic to explain her since there are only few evidence about her existence and her power
I do wonder what the actual difference between gemstones and holistic espers are? I mean they both happen naturally are they not? Or is it that gemstones are just born with the ability and holistic espers can gain the ability later on in their lifetime (and also require the use of drugs?)
Gemstones just gain their powers naturally and still have personal realities which work the same way as artificial ones. Holistic espers' personal realties work in the opposite way to to the norm, instead of having a microscopic reality in their heads, which can influence the macroscopic outside world, holistic espers gain their power via some macroscopic change, which then affects something minor and gives them their power, creating a holistic esper. As in, if the universe was altered slightly, it would not affect it much due to its scale, but within the universe something of a smaller scale (a person, or comet or whatever) may be more greatly affected as a result.
Imagine if some random guy in Toumaverse got a power to change the plot with just a snap of finger
oh!
I just need more about Himegami, she reminds me a lot like Yamato from Naruto they were forgotten in their stories hahaha
kamachi jokes about her, she is a meme
@@AeonofHorus Well at least she is a good meme hahahaha
Himegami is cool! It's really a shame she doesn't get more appearances
(I am aware of Kamachi's ... intents for her char but doesn't change how I feel)
It is painful in a way.
But I got a feeling Aisa will be a more prominent character in a future arc.
Maybe Vampires will show up.
Yesss I hope she'll get a spotlight in an upcoming arc too!
What bothers the crap out of me is Himegami's ability.
Does it have ANY function other than killing a magical creature?
That also makes me wonder if Gemstones are naturally really weak, and Gunha being insanely powerful is the exception. After all, natural gemstones are inferior to artificial ones.
Tazuma was capable of outpacing Misaka and fight Mass Murderer Salome. Not to mention her plants can replicate military weapons like missiles
The Gemstone girl from SS2 blew away a group of armed people with a single blow
White Player from the non canon PSP game nearly fucked up the entire timeline by running about
The Magic Gods consider Gemstones as a threat
@@depressedrocksenjoyer9472 Shows to know how little I know. Jesus.
👍🏾
Can we talk about how in Volume 2, Himagami declared herself as a magician but attends Academy City under the Esper Development Program. How is she not dead?!
She called herself a magician bc thats how she deluded herself her powers worked and she used to live in a shrine+spending some time with Izzard.
I don't think she ever went through the power curriculum programme. As Piero said, she lied calling herself a magician, she's always been a gemstone esper.
She pretended to be a magician because she wanted to be one.
Himegami never got her powers from the Power Curriculum Program.
Lol the stargate project actually took place in the real world as well. Of course, it miserably failed.
damn i actually didnt know it was based off a real thing, typical kamachi
@@AeonofHorus based on what I've seen about the entire franchise, everything in toaru is probably based on real stuff people believed in that didn't work
Peakaru
Yes
When I think of Ruby I think of the peak waifu Kurosawa, Ruby of Love Live not the actual gem or Pokemon.
If i had to live in toaru and choose my power ima be a gemstone so that way i can have access to technology and also not be super smart
i would still prefer being a magician
@@AeonofHorus I mean who wouldn't half of these magicians abilities, my personal favorite is Thor's lightning arcs simple but effective
@@AeonofHorus based on what was said in the series, the reason most espers can't use magic is the drags given to them by Academy City, so Gemstones should be able to use magic
@@GeekNewz gemstones also cant use magic
@@electroneurons was this ever confirmed in the series? and is it because the gemstones we see are already under the influence of academy city's drags?
which is to say, can a gemstone that has never interacted with academy city use magic?
I still say the function of magic is the same as level upper. Just using other objects instead of music. “Phases”? That just sounds like a collective reality. “Magic god”? sounds like the administrator of the brain network
