Not that impressive, they are just reskined ideas, one is based on that of quantum physics and the often misunderstood phenomena of the observer effect and the other that of magic is based on that of symphatetic and contagios magic which was most likely ripped from the antropholgu book THE GOLDEN BOUGH!

A bit of vague spoilers for the ending of OT and some of NT. The Esper power system is very interesting indeed. I’m currently reading a book about quantum mechanics myself to get a better understanding of it. From what I understand the Raildex universe follows the Copenhagen interpretation, where the Shrödinger’s cat experiment stems from. A detail that often gets left out of experiment is the cat’s life is dependent on the randomness of radioactive decay. Once observed the Copenhagen principal posits that there is only one result, which is determined by the wave function. This is in contrast to the many world interpretation (as in DC or Marvel), where 2 worlds are created, one where the cat is dead and one where it is alive. This is supported by the concept of world phases, instead of the inclusion of a multiverse. I believe that espers have a certain amount of control over the wave function or world phase, which is augmented by the amount of resources Academy City is willing to give a particular student. This creates an allegory that becomes a critique of how the education is handled, where students are given a test to measure their potential which determines how much education resources are available to them. Which of course leads to problems of income inequality, such as skillout. This is a bit of an oversimplification of concepts, but I’m still in the process of learning about them. What I’m interested in is finding out what sort of calculations and equations espers perform in their heads and I think either Kuroko Shirai would be a great example.

@@bertansadiki6794 My resources are mostly videos I find about quantum mechanics on RUclips. PBS SpaceTime in particular is a good resource. I also attended a lecture at the Silicon Valley comic con that featured the science advisor for the MCU movies, specifically Ant-man and Endgame, who went over theories of quantum mechanics and how the film used them, unfortunately I don’t believe that is available. I’m also currently reading “How to Find a Higgs Boson―and Other Big Mysteries in the World of the Very Small” by Ivo van Vulpen, a Dutch physicist who works for CERN, which explains the basics of quantum mechanics quite clearly. The school allegory is based in observations I had looking at the struggles of a former teacher I had that made me realize how corrupt the system can be, and how Hamazura’s experience reflects that from a troubled students perspective, although that goes towards any system to make people devalue themselves. I admit I have also not finished the index novels as I am currently on NT Vol 15, so this is an incomplete interpretation.
As far as I remember Raildex follows both interpretations, but focuses on the first over the second. Raildex is a single reality, but it seems to be artificially made to be so, cut off from the multiverse. Basically, it seems to be kind of similar to Doctor Who universe.

Great analysis on Espers! If had to say my favorite Esper abilities it would have to be a tie for Dark Matter or the Electromaster ability. Dark Matter is basically the ultimate creation tool and is only limited by creativity. You could also do a lot of the Electromaster ability despite it being technically weaker than Dark Matter, the electromagnetic force is very versatile like controlling charged particles etc. Misaka could do so much more with it but for some reason Kamachi makes her launch arcade tokens…. -_-
I await the day we see Misaka turn into full on Magneto.
Maybe Mikoto would have had that ability if she became a Level 6 and could manage that power without self destructing?
Vector Manipulation is my favorite
Specifically the Reflection part of it changing the Trajectory of an object is actually such a bada** way of pulling a "No You" type of situation
Oh, now I get why Touma is a level 0 since Imagine Breaker isn't an Esper ability since it doesn't warp reality, it breaks illusions. (which i guess warping reality can be considered an illusion.)
My favorite is Misaka Mikoto. Such a strong character and her arc is neatly done by the creator.

Mental Out. Great diversity, with lots of applications. Exterior is also interesting af. Generally the most usefull in day to day life.

@@AeonofHorus It is rather terrifying in concept for most people. Ironicly Shokuhous clique and herself are the most suspicious of this power in-universe. They only trust Shokuhou with this ability and are terrified of the concept itself in the hands of almost anyone else. We can see this for example with Junkos first conversation with Ghost-chan. She is genuently disturbed by the idea of anyone other then Misaki being able to controll someones body without their consent being necessary. In fact her only request for cooperation with ghost-chan is that she doesnt take over her body anymore, even after seeing her benevolence in aiding the lost dog prior. Meanwhile she couldnt give less of a f*ck if Misaki uses her without warning for even mundane circumstances, because she trusts Misaki to not bring negative consequences upon her.
Mental Out is disturbingly overpowered, even for Index standards. Its one of the few one sided science side, over magic side victorys we saw throughout late NT and early GT. With Mikoto, science posterchild being rekt by even the most casuall magicians, like in GT1, while Accelerator does most of his impressive feeds, after learning of, adapting to and finaly utilizing magic himself. Even kakine, after getting a rather notable buff in NT5 and 6 is one shotted in his one encounter against a major magic side opponent. All of this makes Shokuhous feed in NT22R so truely ongodly for science side standards. She took down so many combatants, saints and above, not only without exteriors help, but with still energy to spare, which would instead annihalate any none living liquids in the room, like wines and food. Even if the breakdown temporarily doubled her ability, this is truely overpowered.
As for morale issues, most people have at least some problem with her having this power and some even hate her for it. Kamachi has less of a problem with the concept however. He sees morall and mental manipulation in almost every aspect of modern life, expecting these intentions around every corner. Not only in mainline stories, but even short sidestorys you will find him ranting about media, advertisements, flow of people, psychologicall influences and all of the factors that subtely alter a persons mind. From mass propaganda campaigns and media supression for dominance of the masses, to simple colouring and noises in subways to stop suicides.
Kamachi sees all these manipulations daily, so of course he sees less issue with Shokuhou. She´s easily one of his favourites at that. Not only does he put her in almost every novel since NT6 for at least one scene or a mention. But side storys like the doll SS show he will even go out of his way to write about her. No one in their right mind would have expected the author to make a story over some merchandise. Instead we got a 20cm tall Misaki doll living under her bed and one of her famous death scenes to add to the list. ( 20cm is the exact amount Misaki grew from NT11 to present day, going from Index exact height, to Toumas exact height. Its also a world record for women, I think) Also the doll is 5cm taller then Othi and I NEED a scene between those 2.
Taking Toumas situations in comparrison. Personally I rather forget about the type of underwear the girl whose skirt I just looked up is wearing, then having thousands of dollars of my property, in form of my fridge, food, phone and air conditioner, destroyed by the stun gun, for example. But maybe thats just me.
Regardless, the only part of then newest Railgun arc, I truely enjoyed was basically seeing Tokiwadais reaction to Misaki. Their fear of her and how this made her an asocial outcast for a while. With the only person that doesnt have a reason to be afraid of her power, giving her ptsd. Kamachi is great at writting her and I cant wait for the new Mental Out spinoff, whenever that releases.... It will release eventually, right? We havent heard anything since January...
Basically, my understanding of holistic espers is this:
A normal esper works by having the aim field enact changes on the microscoping level, and having those numerous changes add up until they reach the scale of a human.
Basically like placing down individual lego peices and having the add up to a nice lego house.
A Holistic Esper on the other hand, manipulates not the microscopic, but the macroscocpic, with the effects trickeling down to the level a person can understand.
It’s the manipulation of relativistic physics instead of quantum mechanics.
Instead of building a house by placing each peace one by one, you essentially get god to make it rain legos all across the universe, calculated it in such a way as to make the legos fall into just the right way with the right speed to assemble into the same house.
The fact that the universe is now pelted with an excess of legos matters not to the holistic esper, as long as the Earth is mostly unaffected by the lego appcalypse.
Between the magic gods and holistic espers, I feel bad for any potential alien life forms in the Toaru universe.

could you talk about dark matter? Kakine is my favorite character from the science side and I am very struck by his power.
He has a really cool ability
He produces a special kind of matter that follows a different set of rules than regular matter
So I have a theory in regards to the separation of magic and science which Aleister has admitted is artificial and created through his archetype controller.
Essentially I believe that the creation of espers results in forming a circuit of sorts within the esper and uses mana, whether sourced from themself or drawn from the earth, in order to produce the phenomenon that is their powers. I liken it to the one off grimoires used by Oriana Thomson. The circuit can only produce a set phenomenon but the users will exerted on it, via calculations and movement, can change how it manifests. For example the base power of Mikoto is electromagnetism as an electromaster, but she actively controls how that is manifested through her calculations whether it be the production of electricity via the movement of electrons, or the production of a magnetic field as a result of the production of electricity.
With this in mind the reason that espers can't use magic and magicians can't use esper abilities comes down to the function of the circuit and the mana run through it. When a magician uses magic they refine life energy into mana and then transform that mana to create a phenomenon. This transformation is likely the result of creating a temporary circuit to utilize the mana. As such when as esper tries to use magic it causes a rejection as their permanent circuit that enables their esper abilities is overloaded by the overlapping of the magic circuit and the differences between the mana used.
That means that the reason that Accelerator can use magic to some degree with only a headache, if he is prepared before casting the spell, is because he is simultaneously using his vector manipulation to control the flow of mana and prevent as much interference between the two circuits that would have to exist at the same time. This feat is also only possible because he has started to learn of the laws behind magic and how they conflict and coincide with the laws governing esper abilities.
From what we have gathered thanks to exposition and outright statements in the novels, magic and esper abilities have no real distinction and thus should operate under the same basic laws but possibly interpreted differently by espers and magicians as a result of Aleister's use of the archetype controller. The knowledge of magic that Accelerator gained in conjunction with his existing knowledge of espers powers allowed him to use his super computer level brain to work out the unified theory and begin to understand how to use both abilities making him the closest thing to a true hybrid.
As for the specific underlying laws, it is has not been explained, unless some new information came out in genesis testament as I still need to read it, but Toyama Luca noted upon viewing the AAA that it was a complete magical device despite looking like a scientific device. Specifically she began to understand that the division between magic and science was fake and that esper abilities could be explained under the theories espoused in the Temple of Thelma. To quote volume 17:
“Isis, Osiris, and Horus... But this is far removed from Egyptian traditions. That which will not obey
upon being summoned... Abrahadabra (this was likely a typo in my copy of the book and was meant to say abrahkadabra). The upside-down triangle made from the same letters...the
curse-reversing charm... I see. The induction of the paranormal using adolescent minds and drugs was taken from the Temple of Thelema. But wait...that would mean...!?”
“Science and magic? Don’t make me laugh! If everything here is true, then there never were two
different worlds. A single person’s wickedness was only making it look that way!! You can explain the world with a single unified theory!!”
This leads me to some cleaning up and conjecture. I believe that the AIM field is the result of the espers circuit creating the same sparks that are seen when the phases collide, especially in magic use. As such with Aleister's hatred of magic he may have intended for the sparks created by espers through the use of their circuit to not be able to spread past the user as to have the minimal effect on others without having to directly force the sparks back into the user as Aleister does when using his magic.
These sparks are what Index referred to as "gods miracles" when theorizing that imagine breaker is causing Touma's misfortune by nullifying gods miracle as the imagine breaker provides some resistance to sparks, which are clearly stated to have an impact on the fortune and misfortune of others unrelated to magic. By neutralizing the sparks and spray around him that is created by magic use around the world, Touma is nullifying the fortune and being left with the misfortune which can be argued to just be the absence of fortune itself.
With this explanation for AIM fields we can actually make a few assumptions about certain key story elements like why using the invisible number district can cause magicians to overload and self destruct. If the AIM fields really are a sort of spark then it is possible that by concentrating them, as the invisible numbers district does, you can form conflict between the sparks produced by magicians and the AIM field itself. Specifically it could serve to force the sparks back onto the magician, similar to what Aleister does when containing their own sparks when using magic, and this causes a rejection reaction. This rejection may also be an alternative explanation for why espers using magic suffer a rejection because their natural AIM field could be redirecting the sparks of the magic back into them. If this is true and my previous theory on rejection is true, both being separate parts of the phenomenon known as magic, then the reason Accelerator still suffers some form of rejection despite using his abilities to mitigate the interference is because he is missing information on sparks and thus isn't controlling their vectors and thus suffering some rejection as a result.
If all of this conjecture is right, then Aleister's final goal of destroying the phases and returning the world to its pure form may require wrapping the world in a giant AIM field and forcing the sparks created by the clashing of phases onto themselves thus crushing and destroying the phases. This would also explain why his plan and first attempt at executing it required him to be in outer space, so his use of magic could exert external pressure on the AIM field and help place pressure on the phases causing their destruction. Further being in space would allow him to direct the sparks and spray outward instead of inward, as he usually does, without concern for impacting other as there would be no one in space to be impacted.
Great video :) I do like that many abilities have some sort of logical ground with science but eventually become their own thing. It's great to see Kamachi's spin on how some abilities function (looking at you NT6 Kakine).
PS: Gunha's ability is simply being a shonen protagonist flung into the role of a side character lmao

Congrats on 3k Subs Aeon! I know sounds this a really boring choice and I don't know if it counts as it's really not his ability but I'm going to pick Touma and Imagine Breaker (Not the Dragons/IT). The reason I'm picking this is that like with Accel wings, some anime only even today are very confused on how Imagine Breaker works even confusing it for an esper ability at times.

@@acrsclspdrcls1365 My crack pott theory is that Hamazura has the ability to suck luck away from people with luck which wouldnt work on Touma since he has no luck and it explains how Misaki survived Anna Sprengels assualt since she visited Takitsubou and Hamazura before facing Mikoto and Misaki. It also explains why Hamazura survived that long during GT despite relying on the Coin of Nicolas that much.
Since the curse only hit after he managed to escape all danger and Yomikawa has probably not much luck in her life. Wouldnt be measurable in AC Terms and he would be classified just like Tsuchimikado.But that is just wild theory.

I think I’m most curious about Kakine’s ability and think it’s a really cool one. Just a quick question though, is their any gravity specific esper? It’s a basic power anyone can come up with but I feel like their should be some esper that specifically controls it.

Personal Realities are the Power to change the Laws of current World, basicaly the essense of Thelema/Book of Law;
Thelema and Personal Realities are practicaly the Same mechanic but apply to different Power System. This is not a surprise If You realize both are the natural effect of Aiwass and Aleister phylosophical view:
"Do wherever do you want, that would be your law"
Or in Esper terms "Do wherever do you feel, that would be your World"
Even Aiwass explained Black Wing-Accel is un the Aeon of Osiris (A Magical Concept).
Even the AIM Difussion Fields ate basicaly Scientific Telesma, and can created Angel-Like Entities based.

@@AeonofHorus Actually thinks it makes perfect sense, I had a theory about what her ability was before Jailbreaker and the imagery in Jailbreaker calls back to a side story on how Urihara "hacks" its obviously some form of Gradient/Entrophy Manipulation and she is controlling the changes in Shannon Information.

Can gemstones hypothetically use magic without rejection? Since they do not need to undergo the Esper curriculum since they acquired their abilities naturally, I assume they can use magic, but I might be wrong(?)
Gemstones still have AIM, which is what keeps most espers from using magic. So probably not, at least not without injury.

I'm pretty sure that the espers need to fully understande the physics behind their own power and be able to calculate in oder to use the power
So basically every espers above level 0 are smarter than me (except gunha 🤣)
The calculation for an esper to use their ability is probably similar to the calculation you do to throw a ball in a basket. You spent a long time and gained experience to know how to do it effortlessly and there are some you have mastered it to make a profession out of it.

Why with level upper, Saten was capable of use powers? Accelerator wings are made with aim field? Are personalities influenced by powers or the other way around?
I believe power is initially influenced by your personality, but the stronger you get, the more your personality is affected by your power.
Close, it’s actually the other way around. The Esper powers are influenced by the personality since personal reality and personalities of the Espers are somewhat intertwined. You can see an example of this with Accelerator, Accelerator was able to gain White Wings, once he got set straight by Touma and changed his Villain/Hero mentality he had up until WWIII. Causing his personal reality in conjunction with his new interactions with Magic (the reason for Magic helping Accelerator gain wings would go into spoiler territory about Espers as a whole that the anime hasn’t shown) to manifest the wings, due to the great mental/maturity change in Accelerator.

Ok, hmm, so, Accelerator is my favourite but I dunno how does he do calculation in order to use his power, and others espers too, I was really curious about that, i mean do they just do like multiply the oncoming vector with -1 and it will be redirected or something complicated like assuming the vector in three dimension (as 5î + 3j + 7k) and then calculate it's magnitude and direction and then think about a vector he wanted this
Vector to change into (like 9î + j + -2k) that has magnitude and direction as he wanted and then interchange the before vector (5î + 3j +7 k) into the vector he wanted (9î + j + -2k) when it reaches his AIM diffusion field (Using his ability VECTOR CONVERSION), huh,even i don't understand what I'm saying but, I really want to know, so it will be pleasure if someone can explain the working of calculations to me
