    Well shucks, if I had known you wanted a hockey puck I would have thrown a couple in the package! :)
    For those wondering, I found this one new in packaging on Facebook Marketplace earlier this year. The other one that went to TTC I bought new ~15 years ago that sat unused in a box in my basement for the entire time. I keep an eye out for them but they don't come up for sale very often.
    Awesome test though, still surprised just how many beans it delivers!

    Mastercraft is the Canadian Tire in-house store brand.
    Nicknamed "Mastercrap" because the tools are largely homeowner-grade, and we Canadians are an odd bunch that make nicknames for everything.
    AvE usually puts on a Canadian slang and nickname masterclass.

    There's no patent, so I actually worked with a factory with prototyping a beefier version with stiffer spring settings. They're like well this needs to be made out of all steel now, not plastic. And I'm like yes, agreed. Sounds good. But it's going to weight a lot, I'm like who cares. So prototyped, lotta heavy forces on the anvil drive inside. Looks like it needs a brass bushing to ride on. Yes!. Looks like it needs a heavier hammer to pair with he new spring. Yes!
    Feature creeped the whole damn thing into a $80-90 tool. These things are sweet, but really attractive to someone who doesnt want to buy an impact. So needs to be like $30-40 IMO. I doubt if Mastercraft was selling this current version today it would be.

I use a 5 inch grinder everyday and been buying mastercraft ones now since they are cheap 99 bucks and have a 3 year warranty...although had the same one for over 4 years now still hasnt died. I didn't expect this thing to actually work all that well...I'm surprised.
    The thing that would be great about this, is the fact that you just have to keep a cordless drill and this in your vehicle...that way you have two tools in one. I already keep a drill in my truck, but I don't really have the room to keep my 1/2" impact in there too...this thing doesn't take up near as much space as an impact wrench.

He was in a panic needing some kind of help. The mechanic on duty checked the oil and told him he needed oil. What came out of the schmuck's mouth is still astonishing to this day. "NO! Battery drills have such a short life. Though i don't use it everyday, I have a drill from the 70s, but it's corded. Still works as well as the day it was bought by my father. Describing 10 year old tools as very old is just weird to me.
    My expectations of buying things are not that you get a new one every 5 years, especially something I don't use all that often. I want something that will last many decades. I have all kinds of tools going back to the 30s and 40s. But they are mostly hand tools that were taken care of. High quality tools are just stupidly expensive and the old stuff, even off brand was made better than standard home-gamer tools made today. I just replaced a hand mixer from the 50s. Was my regular everyday hand mixer (kitchen, not some kind of tool) since the early 90s. I'm still looking for a toaster from the 40s or 50s. But I'm looking for a specific model. I've been through 4 modern toasters in the last 10 years. Like tools, your options are junk or super expensive and with options you don't want like a touchscreen and needing a phone app (yes, they really do exist).

    • @emmettturner9452
      @emmettturner9452 10 месяцев назад +6

      It’s “old” because cordless technology has surpassed it with modern “brushless” models. [In addition to being more reliable without brushes that wear and eventually need replacement] They are more efficient with battery life and often more powerful than corded versions of the same tool. It’s considered a rip off for premium brands to continue selling brushed cordless tools since there is still a small premium for the brand despite knowingly selling an inferior/obsolete tool.

    • @jcxtra
      @jcxtra 10 месяцев назад +1

      I know exactly what you mean with toasters. I had an old one that served me very well for years that finally gave up the goat so I bought a new one, that wasn't dirt cheap but it's broke within a couple of years. I did a bit of research to see if I can find a company that still makes "proper" toasters (that you can get spares for) and aren't designed to be landfill after 2 years. I'm in the UK and the only company I could find that still makes toasters within the UK was Dualit (although some of their cheaper range is apparently now manufactured overseas. Their cheapest UK made one starts at £169.99 which don't get me wrong is quite a lot of money...but I'm starting to see value in things that won't end up in landfill within 2 to 5 years, so I'm saving up for one. Hopefully you can find something suitable in the area where you are :)

    • @NovaNinja_
      @NovaNinja_ 10 месяцев назад

      I feel the same way. Cordless tools have an (unwritten) expiry date. The batteries don't last forever and they're not going to make them forever. I've been working my current job for 14 years and I'm on my 4th complete set of cordless tools (drill, impact, jigsaw, grinder and more). Mainly because the batteries went to shit and they didn't make them anymore. When I needed a jigsaw for personal use I bought a decent plug-in Bosch, hopefully it'll last my lifetime, but I doubt it.

      @@jcxtra I have one of those Sunbeam “Automatic Beyond Belief!” “Radiant Control” toasters that were first made in the ‘40s. ;) I had to update the electrical cord for safety and I sometimes have to turn it upside-down to reset the mechanism that automatically lowers the toast but it still works great! They made them for several decades so mine is probably one of the ‘70s variants that lacks the line art designs of the earlier Art Deco variants.

    I have a 1950s Craftsman reversible speed reducer and screwdriver. It's for screwing but not bustin nuts. 😅
    It's from a time when not all the electric drills were reversible. The manual says it multiplies the "power" 6-7x, so it's 6:1. It also has the sliding reverse gear so your non-reversable drill can unscrew a screw.

    As far as pancake syrup goes, homemade stuff is miles better than anything you can buy (aside from real maple syrup of course) and it is dead simple.
    Combine equal parts brown sugar, white sugar, and water into a saucepan (or Pyrex measuring cup for microwaving) add a big pinch of salt, heat and simmer until sugar is dissolved. Kill the heat, add vanilla extract to taste and however much butter you like for butter flavored syrup, or leave the butter out if you don’t want butter flavored. I’d say use it fast since it has few preservatives (aside from sugar and salt) but you’ll use it so fast you shouldn’t have to worry about it spoiling

    Mastercraft got the name from rebranding Chinese Crap. They still do, but they get it from much better factories now. On the other hand, I have a 20yr old tool set from them that I got for 60% off at the time, in good shape, that's only missing the 10mm sockets.

    How come you didn’t try the drills on low speed first to increase higher torque ratings before throwing those hammers in Mach 2? I don’t think they have a chance now since they smoked.. brushed drills I smoked soon died but they definitely lost power after first signs of smoking.. 20v Milwaukee drill next on low on first go round?

    • @FunkFPV
      @FunkFPV  10 месяцев назад

      The RPMs are as important as the torque. I felt like the little DeWalt gave all she’s got.

  • @ccc822007
    @ccc822007 10 месяцев назад

    Why I prefer Milwaukee tools for mechanics work and Dewalt tools for house repairs. Milwaukee tools have more torque in a smaller package. While Dewalts have better direct power but can also handle quite a bit of abuse. Although I would have to say I do have a dewalt torque driver (the big yellow torque driver 1/2 inch drive) which is great at removing lug nuts when changing tires.
