The M12 high speed is still the most used around here purely for size reasons, it's hard to not just reach for it due to that. Just wish it has a bit more umph, it gets hung up on threads that look pretty unintimidating. Which the dewalt has but is larger, and the insider has but didn't love it. There's no goldilocks
@austinbruder9187 What is your experience with the RIDGID lifetime warranty? I have recently found out that the warranty is a marketing gimmick. Their brushless stuff is not lasting long for a chimney sweep and dryer vent sweeping company. You cannot get replacements at Home Depot. You have to send tools in and if RIDGID denies replacement, you don’t get your half working tool back. With DeWalt, most tools have a 3 year warranty and it is as simple as going to my local authorized repair center and they give me a direct replacement or newer model if direct replacement is not available; no questions asked. They warranty 3 years from the date stamp on the tool unless you have a receipt, then they go by the date on the receipt. I can understand sending tools in for warranty if you are a DIYer but for commercial use, I can’t wait 6-8 weeks for them to dent my warranty claim.
I just bought the DCF500 12V and love it so far but I've got to be careful with my trigger finger on smaller bolts. I'm curious how different it is from the DCF510 running through the gauntlet. :)
Ive been using the ratchet daily for the past several weeks. I dont have a single complaint about it. Its surprisingly strong and i dont think the length or battery pack have actually been in my way once. Im an automotive tech. Only guy in my shop that uses dewalt tools but i love them. I also have the dcf900 and theyre both straight up fantastic
I just bought a cheap electric ratchet off Amazon. Most of the reviews were bad saying it has no torque but I feel like most of these are not aimed to be an impact just a ratchet. I wouldn’t expect it to be strong but it really isn’t that bad. This one looks pretty nice too.
TTC & FPV teaming up, things you love to see! I've been looking at these dewalt ratchets, milwaukee breaks a lot but is nice and compact. Seems the Dewalt is a bit bulky for car stuff, not had one in my hand tho!
The longer head and thinner profile will make it a little better than most. Especially you can flip the anvil to get more clearance. Also, i believe the milwaukee inside sockets will fit this making it even more low profile than having the anvil with a socket. Plus, it actually has some good torque, and you can reef on it more to crack fasteners free.
When I went to home depot and picked up the 20v I didn't like the size, I didn't mind the 12v but if I'm gonna be buying everything but chargers to have the 12v tool I marry as well look at a different platform for when it comes to my cordless ratchet
I have been on the fence with buying a this tool VS the Milwaukee . You explained the uses of it great in comparison. The duel anvil 3/8” / 1/2” is a fantastic option. Enjoy you videos. Always honest look at things . Thank you
The Snap on long reach one has a grease fitting on the direction knob. I really like it for its reach and speed, but the set with tool, charger, and 2 batteries was $700 last I checked. It just seems too high to justify the small advantages
First off. 2 channels should be a MUST for anyone who uses tools. Torque Test Channel and Project Farm. And it's cool they hooked you up. The only cordless wrench I have is that really long Milwaukee 12V one. I love it but hate it. It's surprisingly HEAVY and using it for a long time wears you out. Hoping to get some newer cordless tools soon. But I have not settled on which brand yet. I may just go Harbor Freight. I have several DeWalt and Milwaukee, Some ridgid. But all my batteries are many years old now. Replacements are so costly. I don't wrench professionally so open to "Good enough" as long as it's cost effective. I'll admit. That DeWalt here looks dang sexy. I love the 3/8 and 1/2 in same tool and well, several other things. Only thing I don't like is the big square battery.
Also I searched around. I dont think you can get just the tool only. They have atleast 3 models of these but not 20V MAX XR Cordless Ratchet version as tool only. Not that I found anyway. I could just be retarded.
🤔If you Google search Dcf510b (b at the end is for 'bare' tool versions), it will come up alone. It's actually more expensive, many times to buy this way, this time included. It's $249. @ Acme tools for tool alone, but $150 @ HomeDepot for the kit w\ 1 power stack batt & charger. Also Amazon has it for $234. bare tool, or $249 kitted w\ 1 power stack, charger & bag(just like Hd does, but $100 more!). Always check multiple places, especially at this time of the year w\ all the holiday sales going on. 👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻🔧🔩🔌🔋⚡💥💨⚠️🍻
I like a compact ratchet for engine bays. I think the DeWalt is more comparable to one of the fuel long reach versions. The gen 1 Milwaukee is great but they weren't built to take abuse like the fuel versions.
Well you have no idea what that brushed version can do. Its built like a tank. I owned one for a year. Dismantled the whole engine, and but it back together.
I have the little 12V Dewalt ratchets and they are nice. If I went Milwaukee I’d have to put another charger in my garage. I’d rather just have one so went with the more compact 12V models. Recently did a timing chain on my car and it saved me a ton of time.
I've got the same brushed Milwaukee M12 3/8" ratchet. I got it recently, new. If get the opportunity I'll pick up the 1/4" drive version because of size. There are some places I've found it's very useful. For the a lot of the same reasons, I'm getting the DeWalt's 510 3/8" ratchet with that same power-stack battery. I've tried the Milwaukee M12 'pass-through' ratchet, that comes with a set of proprietary sockets. For an automotive tech, I could see it being incredibly useful. I've been working heavy diesel equipment now for over 10yrs, and the kind of work I typically do as heavy-duty body repair man, I don't see the real need for it. It comes with a great Long reach which is absolutely beautiful and I found myself wanting it for that purpose, because I want and truly need longer reach cordless ratchet. And the pass-through has a 3/8" anvil with the sockets it comes with. But.., it's fittley.🤨When you remove whatever socket you attached to the anvil, the anvil comes out with the socket, invariably 😕. For this reason, I'd still get the DeWalt. Reason 2, the encapsulated head on the DeWalt keeps that 1st 30% of grease that the Milwaukee loses on the 1st bolt. Milwaukee can do better. I'll wait for the 2.0 version, while buying the DeWalt 🤓🤠😎.
Dewalt's brushless XR line is very expensive, but once you try the tools.. It might be worth the price if you use the tools daily. I've used the XR portable bandsaw at work, and it's far superior in quality, feel, function than the other portable band saws I've used.
The reverse lever is at a nice position on the dewalt. Definitely a better design. The m12 version of the Milwaukee is also not a fair comparison as you said. But i still like the Dewalt design even compared to the m18 i have.
Yeah the local stores not carrying the ratchet has been the case for me also, i've looked at it online--somewhat longingly a few times, but just haven't broken down and purchased it. Thanks for the review.
Most people gravitate towards comparing the cheap dewalts to the expensive Milwaukees which i dont understand. Maybe dewalt just doesn't market their high end tools well and of course biased people don't take the time to look. very rare i see a fair comparison involving dewalt. So thanks for an honest look. Also, the powestack batteries are a huge game changer and as far as I know they beat anything Milwaukee has to offer in terms of raw output. This is also something they don't do an awesome job marketing imo
The reason you can flip the anvil is for clearance. We all know clearance is one of our best friends in tight spots. Also, i think the insider sockets will fit this. I seen the guy tim on the shoptools channel use a caliper on the anvil hex part that goes in the tool, its 0.63. Milwaukees page for the 3/8 inside anvil says its also 0.63, so the sockets for the inside should work making this smaller in tighter spots.
I have the other dewalt cordless ratchets and can say that the extra length from the battery design can make it undesirable for working in engine bays, which is where I felt it would have been most useful. Be careful with the 20v ratchets, it might have been improved with this new design but if you run a bolt all the way down and don't have a solid grip on it, youre liable to have it ripped out of your hands.
The new charger has dual outputs. Once the battery is nearly charged it starts to slow charge it so it doesn't cook your batteries. Most nicer lithium battery chargers and or batteries including RC and even your smart phone do this so they don't damage the battery with excess heat on the final stage of charging
I like the new dewalt because its a nice length, is somewhat extended but not overly so. And it has good power and speed. I had the original M12 ratchet but was way to slow to be useful and I didn't care for the high speed one. The bad thing about the dewalt is have to keep track of your other anvil, no good place to put it.
I have comparable Milwaukee and Dewalt versions of these tools. These particular two are not the same. That Dewalt is an IMPACTING ratchet. The Milwaukee is just a ratchet. Milwaukee makes impacting ratchets. They are more powerful than Dewalt by alot. The closest Dewalt ratchet to your old Milwaukee is a DCF504. Dewalt has scrapped their brushed ratchet lineup in 12v. Their DCF510 is an imoacting wrench with a 75 ft/lb torque rating. Which is nice. Conversely, the closest Milwaukee tool equivalent to that DCF510 is the Milwaukee Insider. It has both 1/4 and 3/8 drive adapters as well as a decent assortment of pass-through sockets in metric and standard. And unlike your Milwaukee it has extended reach and 60 ft/lbs of torque. 3050-21 for the kit and 3050-20 for tool only. Kit unless it's a replacement. You'll want the sockets that come with. Now the Milwaukee impacting ratchets will run 600 ft/lbs of torque, but they have a much larger head than a basic ratchet. And Dewalt currently doesn't have anything really in league with that. Basically this is a tool in-between the impact tools and the basic power ratcheting tools.
As an auto mechanic I love my Milwaukee. I like how compact they are with the 2ah, I just can’t see myself using one of these dewalt ratchets with the larger body and battery design.
I've never touched either. But if I were shopping, I like the Milwaukee. Even though it's smaller, it looks more like a heavy duty tool. It's also streamlined. That DeWalt looks too big and clunky.
Tried it, but I found out real quick for me that style of ratchet is too bulky to be using it in the automotive trade especially on FWD engine bays. The rear end ends up hanging up on things that my M12 HS with a Torpedo style 🔋 will easily slip through. It has awesome power though so it should work great with larger heavy equipment 💪. I have my eye on the M12 Insider hopefully they come out with a quick fix with the socket issue. BTW Your shorts vids always have me rolling 😂 keep up that great work👍🏻
@@FunkFPV Yah I did notice the stutter and the adapter issue when TTC reviewed it a while ago, but hopefully they'll fix that issue with an update. Not ready to pull the trigger on it just yet. My 3/8 M12 HS is what I use most and if I need that extra reach I have a cheap, but goodie 1/4 extended Hercules that I take on drives from time to time. For regular passenger vehicles these electric ratchets are just nut runners, but for sure on heavy equipment that you work on Dewalt has that extra power to make your life a little easier🙂
I really thought you were going to torque some bolts down and check the claimed torque lbs from manufacturer. I’ll definitely add this to my collection. I was sold on the interchangeable anvils.
Nice video brother , I work on material handling equipment all day everyday so I feel your pain…lol. I’m a ketchup guy however you cannot deny that Dewalt is making some nice stuff. My go to is the m12 fuel 1/4” ratchet with a super short 1/4” to 3/8” adapter when needed….you hear that Milwaukee…..Dewalt is killing you on prices.
I watch your shorts but I still make sure I click on the full length videos and like them also. After working in a shop or factory of some sort for most of my life, I can 😂
I use a red extended reach high speed and I actually really like how weak it is. I'm only really using to spin fast, which it does really well, and I don't want to crack someone's plastic (🤮) valve cover with a ratchet that has too much umph. If it was bigger and stronger I probably wouldn't use it much. But I gotta say, coming with a 1/2 inch anvil to swap out was a stroke of GENIUS from the yellow guys
I have the old 20v extended reach one and it’s perfect for my job. I prefer the long and thin neck to reach blind bolts that a hand ratchet would have a really hard time getting to.
I'm rocking the extended 3/8in M12 fuel ratchet myself. I can see why mechanics took to them so quick! I just use mine for my own home gamer car stuff. My only issue it's how big the head of the ratchet is. Those original Fuel's are chonky!
I would love to see you do rant or ramble videos. You have tool reviews as long form and reaction videos as short form. The videos dont have to be hour long or a podcast just whats on your mind that would be entertaining/funny. Just a thought i like the content you do as is.
I’ve got the Mac old style 12v ratchets of course off the dewalt platform and use the crap out of them and have held up with no issues for four or five years now. I just wish dewalt would make a longer neck where the housing isn’t used as a neck sorta speaking. I definitely have the new style on the Xmas list this year just to upgrade and kinda like you and just try it out. Like they say it’s hard to teach old dogs new tricks.
What’s up man fellow forklift tech same company as you mid south version….ive got the 1/4 drive dewalt had it about 6 months and the head stripped out about a week ago hope the 3/8 last longer….if you use it in the field in six months or so please do a follow up on durability…..looking for an alternative to the crazy priced snap on.
man, you can't even get that 1 anymore. They sell the DCF513 now, and you can't switch heads in it either. the 512 is a 1/2. As a guy who just repairs in his garage, fixes his house, all car maintence myself, etc. The DCF513 is looking super attractive. It keeps me on the same battery platform that i already am on, which means my current batteries are still viable and i don't need additional chargers laying around. Really considering grabbing the 3/8s ratchet, and the 1/2 impact.
I used to own the MAC version of the DeWalt It wasn't bad. I like my M12 as my go to. But the only difference besides price and color from DeWalt is that Mac has a better quality casing to resist the abuse and fluids/grease
Used to be a cnc machinist and the shop had a pneumatic ratchet, so I tried it. It was KINDA nice for some stuff like changing jaw plates, but after a while I came to the conclusion that what it did absolutely best was busting my knuckles against what ever was in front of them when the bolt bottomed. Usually had to tighten the bolts with something else after that anyway. Granted it might've been just user error, faulty pneumatic ratchet or just the wrong job for it, but from my experience and the jobs I've ever done, pneumatic or cordless ratchets feel like the worst available option. Like even below just your basic asf ring spanner. 😅
Well the air/electric part is more to avoid all of the ratcheting your hand/wrist/arm would have to do with a manual ratchet. You should still do final tightening/ initial loosening like it is a manual ratchet.
The HUGE plus on the Dewalt is the batteries, I loathe those M12 batteries, they never charge right away, bad batteries, not charging, jumping batteries, etc... A year old tool and just sits there due to the battery issue.
Long time listener , first time poster Why the switch on the M Looks it would break or get hung up on something ? You hv the experience Big fan, thank you for all your posts
So funk, i bought one of these and i work in Northern canada. In -15 the "anvil" will come out with the socket. I did a short to show it actually it does it with both 3/8 and 1/2.
That Milwaukee is so worn you cannot even compare the two. The teeth on the ratchet mechanisms are worn, that's why it slips when you grip it, soon it wont turn at all. You can buy replacement parts but the oem is so $ you might as well put the money towards a new one, however there are aftermarket parts available that work and wont break the bank.
Won't buy a Milwaukee anything. Been on the fence on the dewalt ratchets mainly because of the as you stated the ping pong paddle. Think the 12 volt DeWalt is probably the way to go just because of size.
Mechanics, 19: 11. Ye who hast not abused thian first tool, before retrieving the right tool! May cast, the first stone! Amen!!! Thank you for the information. And in all seriousness! May God bless you, you’re family, your company, and everything you put your hands to in God’s Name!
The body on the dewalt where the switch is, is pretty chunky. I have the hefty m12 long boy and about 70% of the time, I end up just tossing back in my box when I realize its too fat for the job yet again. Not sure the higher voltage is needed on a tool like this, seems like it would just cause more pain, when you get your hand jammed on something.
“He who hasn’t abused a tool when you should’ve gotten the right tool cast the first stone.” **Me thinking about how many times I’ve used my drill/impact battery as a hammer…** “Touché good sir. “
It is annoying the poor quality chargers that Dewalt sometimes includes in their kits. But, if you think about it, it makes it very hard to NOT be on the Dewalt platform. Their chargers and batteries are very easy to get.
"Angry pixies" had me rolling. As an electrical engineer, I approve...will start using that term from now on. Side note, I'm sending this to my girlfriend, hoping she gets the message and buys it for me for Christmas lol
To me length comparisons especially at the bottom end of the tool not the business end doesn't really factor. I think it's mostly in people's head. When you're on a fastener you're not going in ass end first...
Project Farm does a lot of great videos comparing different brands of tools and equipment, doing very extensive testing. Should check out their content if you're not aware of them already.
In my line of work the DeWalt beats the Milwaukee. Get what works for you. I don't work on cars often but when I do I find snap on usually has the best tools around for working on cars.
Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. 90% of the work I do with that ratchet is in an engine compartment. I like the compact size and it'll fit into small areas that will drive you nuts using a manual ratchet to get 5 degree swings. Honestly, that's the main reason I bought it was to make quick work of bolts that have no swing space. I also just bought the 1/4" drive version of the Milwaukee ratchet because I found myself using the 3/8 version with a 1/4" adapter a lot.
If only the manufacturers would realize this.... but it's 2023. There is no reason for us to not have an easily reversed (electronically) in much the same way they do drills and impacts.
@@FunkFPV That’s the oil-resistant PowerStack battery which was 60 bucks somewhere last summer (Blain’s Farm and Fleet, IIRC). The DCD998/999 are the Lowe’s and Home Depot exclusive versions of the older DCD997 XR hammer drill (still a beast). Each has a different “pair it with a special battery for more chooch!” gimmick. The FlexVolt Advantage is really a 20V Max tool just like the others (not 60V).
I use the ridgid for the sole reason of the battery platform and the lifetime warranty
It is a beefy gal. I gotta run it on some forklifts for a while before I decide if it’s going to be a daily driver.
@austinbruder9187

Yeah people that say that don't understand how to use these tools. You're supposed to break the bolt then pull the trigger.
Good on TTC for sending you the drills. The DCD805 is a workhorse.

Good on DeWalt. That surprised me.
Good pre-use review. Keep us posted.

Great review Funk. Thanks! 😊
BTW Your shorts vids always have me rolling 😂 keep up that great work👍🏻
Thanks bud 😊
Check out the TTC test of that Insider before you buy it 😬
@@FunkFPV Yah I did notice the stutter and the adapter issue when TTC reviewed it a while ago, but hopefully they'll fix that issue with an update.
Great initial review as usual thanks funk
Great to see other channel throw you slme support you do good real world work. I've always found specs don't matter until you actually put it to use.
I'm rocking the extended 3/8in M12 fuel ratchet myself. I can see why mechanics took to them so quick! I just use mine for my own home gamer car stuff. My only issue it's how big the head of the ratchet is. Those original Fuel's are chonky!
You can reverse the anvil direction but remember the forward and reverse will become reverse to forward!
So far my dcf510 has been everything i could ask for and more.
I would love to see you do rant or ramble videos. You have tool reviews as long form and reaction videos as short form. The videos dont have to be hour long or a podcast just whats on your mind that would be entertaining/funny. Just a thought i like the content you do as is.
Try writing on sticky notes, and stick them to sides of your computer monitor. It always helps me remember.
Will do 👍🏻
the dewalt just seems huge compared to the Milwaukee
That’s because this isn’t a fair comparison Milwaukee M12 small tool vs Dewalt 20V full size. Should have been Milwaukee M18 same size.
Real review! Thanks. 👍
the slipping on the m12 occurs because grease got in the head, per milwaukee, there shouldn't be any grease between the pawl and the ratchet head.
man, you can't even get that 1 anymore.
I've had the 12v version of the dewalt for about a year. I like it other than the lenght.
I used to own the MAC version of the DeWalt
It wasn't bad.
I like my M12 as my go to.
But the only difference besides price and color from DeWalt is that Mac has a better quality casing to resist the abuse and fluids/grease
I had a feeling when when i seen your first video, youd be doing a second apology video to justify your new purchase
I paid like $70 for my double battery rigid charger.. the stealth force impact is still the best, but they don’t make it anymore
Dewalt also has an extended reach dcf503eb. Its only offered in 12v though
This form factor is much better for automotive
Best RUclipsr by far.
The HUGE plus on the Dewalt is the batteries, I loathe those M12 batteries, they never charge right away, bad batteries, not charging, jumping batteries, etc... A year old tool and just sits there due to the battery issue.
I like these ratchets but that is a lot of real estate. Great video. Thanks.
I just replaced the gas tank in my 06 grand marquis..
Used my hands like a savage
I want that ratchet so bad
Long time listener , first time poster
Why the switch on the M
Looks it would break or get hung up on something ?
You hv the experience
Big fan, thank you for all your posts
Didn’t even mention the longer reach from the anvil to the tool itself on the Dewalt.
i stopped using the milwaukee ratchets after i bought the dewalt
So funk, i bought one of these and i work in Northern canada. In -15 the "anvil" will come out with the socket. I did a short to show it actually it does it with both 3/8 and 1/2.
That Milwaukee is so worn you cannot even compare the two. The teeth on the ratchet mechanisms are worn, that's why it slips when you grip it, soon it wont turn at all. You can buy replacement parts but the oem is so $ you might as well put the money towards a new one, however there are aftermarket parts available that work and wont break the bank.
My wife, voltmeter designer, said tonight, "DeWalt stole our colors"
I heard the 12v extreme was good for dewalt as well
That ratchet has so man good things about it but its huge.
look at the size of that thing... first time you've heard that
Won't buy a Milwaukee anything.
I have the atomic drill works great no problems
The Atomic line has a lot of good stuff. Not sure why they separate the XR and Atomic 🤷🏻♂️
@@FunkFPV I think "atomic" is their compact line
“He who hasn’t abused a tool when you should’ve gotten the right tool cast the first stone.”
**Me thinking about how many times I’ve used my drill/impact battery as a hammer…**
“Touché good sir. “
😜👍🏻
It is annoying the poor quality chargers that Dewalt sometimes includes in their kits. But, if you think about it, it makes it very hard to NOT be on the Dewalt platform. Their chargers and batteries are very easy to get.
TTC are some real bros
Brand loyalty is dumb, if its a good tool its a good tool. I just hate having zo many different batteries
Thanks man.
In the market for this and a DeWalt trim nailer.
I hear as far as nailers go Milwaukee is the was to go. I never used one so I couldn’t tell you either way 😁
Hi! Can this tool be used manually, like a regular ratchet, or only automatically?
Project Farm does a lot of great videos comparing different brands of tools and equipment, doing very extensive testing. Should check out their content if you're not aware of them already.
I watch his stuff too. His tests are great but you can’t beat TTC for hard numbers and apple to apples comparisons.
I see some DeWalt batteries being marketed as "Oil-Resistant". I assume you get oil on your regular batteries, is that ever a problem?
Coolant from a cnc machine shop absolutely destroys the plastic on the batteries. It's absolutely dumb and a huge oversight on Dewalts part.
Thanks for the info
looks to be to big tight spaces ill be watching
That is dirt cheap there in the USA, here that same set costs 699€ (about 767 US dollars)
Damn! 😮
I'll sell you one for $400! LOL
That charger has two stage charging
Can you purchase a 1/4 inch anvil for the Dewalt? One tool 3 sizes would be great.
As of now no.
I'm leaving a comment for the algorithm.
The Milwaukee ratchet beats the Dewalt hands down. Were you gonna use that huge dewalt under a car hood?
I don’t work under a car hood so… 😜
In my line of work the DeWalt beats the Milwaukee.
@@marcellemay7721 I also think that these type of ratchets by default are for automotive work.
If only the manufacturers would realize this.... but it's 2023. There is no reason for us to not have an easily reversed (electronically) in much the same way they do drills and impacts.
Very good review from a guy who actually uses the tool and not like those screaming metrosexuals who only held a curling iron in their hand for hair 😆
that dewalt is TOO DANG LONG
Is that the DCD998 PowerDetect or the DCD999 FlexVolt Advantage?! Just paid 250 smackers for my 998 but at least I got an 8Ah battery out of the deal.
It’s the DCBP034G
@@FunkFPV That’s the oil-resistant PowerStack battery which was 60 bucks somewhere last summer (Blain’s Farm and Fleet, IIRC). The DCD998/999 are the Lowe’s and Home Depot exclusive versions of the older DCD997 XR hammer drill (still a beast). Each has a different “pair it with a special battery for more chooch!” gimmick. The FlexVolt Advantage is really a 20V Max tool just like the others (not 60V).
no matter how much you tryin to like the dewalt is not a better design that m12 is about best size of a tool like this
Bumblebee main at it again 😎
Milwaukee
the 1.5/2.5,ah are handy for torches but not much else
I got a little flashlight they’re good for too. Aside from that not much else.
I bought one and it was pure junk. Used it a few times and then it just stopped working. Very disappointing considering how expensive this thing was.
