      Haha thanks. It wasn't detecting all the memory modules, I had re-seated them a few times. After some canned air on the slot it decided to work, that made me happy haha 😆

    Nice! X58 -> X79 -> X99 were three really interesting performance platforms from Intel, each seeing significant performance improvements over the last generation.
    Great comparison, and I'm looking forward to more!

      No X99 was quite a fail. CPUs didn't overclock well/big variability in silicon quality and RAM OC topped at about 3200-3333 quite low for DDR4.

      Thanks! For sure this was an interesting tier of products, high end and clunky and I'm here for it! I haven't come across an x99, but I look forward to experimenting with one when I get it. Thanks Again, happy Halloween!🎃

      Thanks Ted! For sure it would be really fast in windows 7. I enjoy seeing what these older CPUs can do in current applications, and the only reason I don't do more of that is because most of you guys really don't care about it 😂 haha. Thanks for your support, buddy.

    This is such an awesome video Bruno! Thank you for sharing this information with us; this was totally fun! I love the X79 platform and lusted after it for years. I had an X58 system until two years ago actually, and it was more than competent, but when my motherboard failed, I looked to more modern alternatives. At the time, the X79 leap seemed so nice. Sandy Bridge-E was a revelation, and the quad channel RAM configuration was so badass. I do think this was a super interesting comparison because I just did not expect. The 3820 did so much better than I thought, despite the X5670’s two extra cores. That being said, the X5670 really was ahead of its time and shows just how well it could hang on! I’m pretty sure that the X58 platform, and Sandy Bridge and its derivatives are more than enough for today’s tasks and that speaks VOLUMES for a number of much older micro-architectures. I did not expect the CineBench performance difference. The fact that the X5670 held on for a 10%+ MC lead is pretty sweet. I honestly love X58 so much for how weird it is, but wow is X79 something else. Thanks for sharing this man! I absolutely loved the video (as always!) and I love that P9X79 Pro board!

      Thanks, Will. My pleasure sharing, always. Yeah, I built this PC ages ago for a friend, and it was regarded by everyone as a beast of a machine. Of course with time gone by, well, it's still useful, but besides the quirkiness, it's not that impressive haha. Sandy Bridge is such a powerful chip, for 1155 and even more x79. I have used one for many years and passed it on to my brother and it's still in good use. With these older designs, adding extra cores is an alternative to upgrading the whole package. I think it's kind of cool to brute force your processing power and hang on for a little bit more. These are both cool combos and I think that them, with x99 kind of defined an era when Intel could have specifically high end platforms available for enthusiasts, what sounds very impractical to me. Well I guess you can still look at the market this way with AMDs Epyc and Intel's Cascade Lake but it seems to be less and less practical and uninviting to the home user. Thanks for your incredible support and friendship.

    Nice video man
    The issue with you not getting 1600mhz running on X58 is that the xeons can't boot memory straps over 1333mhz. So to get around this run the Bclock at 160 and then set 1600Mhz should boot fine then. Decent 1366 CPUs can boot well over 2400mhz. Uncore is very important on X58 1.35v On the IMC should get you 3400-3800Mhz on Uncore. Bclock at 200-220 should give you the best results.
    Oh and the i7 3820 can be oveeclocked too
    Via setting the 125mhz Strap in bios and then adjusting the max turbo multi to whichever works best , my best sample does 4.825ghz at pretty low voltages.

      Thanks, these motherboards have so many options, I know they can be pushed but to do that I would need to focus on each one to learn the ins and outs. Could be a video at some point, not sure since apparently the community is not very interested on them. Thanks again for the info, nice to have it here for reference.

    Great video! The differences in cores versus threads and clock speeds is always fascinating.

    • @SUCRA

      Thanks, Mike! Yeah, sometimes they go all in on core count to postpone design upgrades and sometimes they get a big boost in IPC and that's all very interesting to me as well. Apparently premiere is better optimized for Intel. It would be interesting to see that comparison you got there with different applications. Thanks, I'm enjoying vacation right now! 😁🎉

    Great video. In gaming, high IPC, clocks, and die cache size will always trump core count. That last one is the great equalizer, what the performance benchmarks for AMD's new 3D cache parts showed us were eye opening.

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! It's always nice to hear feedback. In this case I think it's largely related to IPC, but yeah, I still like the 5670 although it feels kind of laggy by now. Have a great day. 👍

    Short and to the point.
    X58 is an important platform to own, especially for its Windows XP support. Though its main weakness is lack of native support of USB3, SATA3.
    The Xeon 56XX used to be dirt cheap new and available everywhere on ebay. Not anymore though.

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  3 года назад

      Thanks, I totally agree about this platform, it's really cool. Lack of native USB 3 is fault, for sure, specially since I've been using it in the lab for captures and what not. I'm probably swapping the lab PC to the x79 combo. Thanks again!

    You need to up the BCLK in the BIOS on the X58 to run 1600 on the memory then manually enter the first four timing numbers 9-9-9-24-CR1 to match your DDR3 XMP then manually set the dram voltage as well 1.5v

      Actually your specs are kinda similar to my dad's pc specs back then in 2009/10. e7500+2gb ram+g41+500gb hdd.
      It would work for old games, and arcade (MAME) as there are some Chinese game king motherboard that uses celeron dual core + g31 + 2gb ram. General office work (word excel etc.) would be doable.
