  • Hey guys this is a rather long video of me completely rebuilding the suspension on my wifes 2015 cadillac escalade with 81k miles. I can tell you that not only was the passenger side front shock leaking mag ride fluid but both rears and the front drivers side was as well.

Don't ever take your Caddy to the dealer for a free inspection. My 18 Escalade had only 42K miles on it. They said I needed both front Struts replaced and a wheel hub. $3,500.00. FU.

You Installed the lateral arm upside down. Probably will wear early because its not on the right location. One side has a pivot point and the other side is a solid bushing. Pivot side goes on the differential side, solid bushing to chassis.

This is an excellent video. The text guidance is very helpful. Unfortunately, I don't have the tools or con confidence to tackle a job like this. I applaud and envy your car skills. I came here to see if your ride issue was what we are experiencing on my wife's 2015 Escalade. It rides ROUGH! Terribly rough. We almost didn't buy it because it rides so much worse than her Ford Expedition. I'm thinking it's because the Expedition has independent suspension where the Escalade is solid axle. What are your thoughts ? Is there ANY way to get a more smoooth ride out of this thing??

So in addition to it being a very good video and extremely informative it leaves my head spinning. I have a million questions. Since my truck only has 16000 miles ( 2018 Escalade) what should I be looking for so I can get whatever fixed / replaced under warranty. This job looks like it is NOT for your average Joe, not just in terms of technical knowledge but all the tools you need and you don't want to do this incorrectly because your life is on the line if you miss something ( or someone else's) . I have no idea what you have invested in parts but I'm sure parts alone were a pretty penny, and labor to boot. I cant imagine this is less than 5 grand at the dealer and maybe more where I live. So was your ride like a new truck once you finished all the work? I really enjoy your videos and even though I can't do all the things you show I have done a few and also I am learning a lot. Believe me when I tell you that as a woman, when I go to the dealer I feel empowered with what I have learned from you. Recently when I was doing my front diff I noticed grease on the drivers side cv joint, had I not done that fluid change ( thanks to you) I would not have known. I took it to the dealer, told them what was wrong, they confirmed I was correct, repaired under warranty and back on the road. Thank You!!! Keep them coming!!! i even watch the motorcycle ones and i don't ride a bike.........anymore. Love your pup too!! Your wife is a lucky woman tell her I said that.

Cocora22 thank you for the encouraging words. At 16,000 you should be good unless you live in a northern state where rust tends to build up under the car. The good thing about the mag ride shocks is that If they are leaking you can clearly see it by getting under the car and behind the wheel, stick you’re finger up there under the shock absorber rubber boot and if you feel and see black greasy oil like fluid on your finger they are going out, If they are busted and spewing out like mine believe me when I tell you that you can feel it while driving and see it. With that being said I would say around 50-60% of GM SUVs equipped with mag ride shocks will have one fail before 50k miles. Most failures happen at 30-40k miles. The cost of one replacement out of Warrenty alone is $800 with tax. The total cost in parts to do this job ran me around 2000 after tax using all gm parts. 2/3s of the cost were the shocks alone and that was discounted 50%. The control arms upper and lower front and rear that I changed in this video still would have held for another 20-30k Miles, they weren’t absolutely necessary to change but I figured i might as well. Yes, the car rides like it was brand new! There’s truly a difference when you replace the entire suspension! I’m glad to hear the information I share is helping you! I firmly believe In the GM truck platform, if you maintain these trucks they will last a lifetime, especially the LS based engines platform in the trucks, they are truly robust
