    While I normally like my O.R. decks to look like traditional O.R. decks, I have to admit...This thing is pretty damn COOL. It kinda reminds me of some open reel VTRs. I was all of 6 years old when this was new!

    Open reel tape is charming, 5" compact tape recorder and FM radio is just adorable! Design looks really well thought out, at least for the user. Easy to use open reel, no need to flip the tape and the sound seems decent. The inclusion of the paper ads and brochures was very much appreciated! Very cool device

    Hi, i'm a Norwegian, I had one of these in the early 70's, and it worked ferfect the first two years, but it seems they got some common trouble after a while, and they was a nightmare for Radionette to repair them, the called them trouble players, whatever they fixed, something else broke down on them, your a lucky man who still got one working.

      Hello and thank you for your comment. They have quite a complicated three layer construction incorporating both mechanical and electrical components. Reassembly requires eyes on the ends of your fingers…

    Interesting design with the stacked reels. The only other machine I've seen with that before is my Sony portable 1" type C VTR. I always thought it was an interesting design concept.

    Thank you for this vide about a very clever mechanism which I didn't know about. Why a take up reel? Keep things simple! 👌
    But now we need a more detailed video about this object. How it's operating in details, what about the 4 tracks, how theyre played, the heads, the inside, etc etc....

    • @organfairy
      @organfairy 10 месяцев назад +2

      It plays all four tracks from the same end of the tape via moveable heads, so you have to rewind back to the start before playing each track. It is incompatible with standard four track tapes (unless you only play track 1 and 3).

    Most interesting. I have never heard of this machine and I have been up and down through the internets, thinking I have seen it all. Sanyo's Micro-Pack 35 comes into mind. And I think I have also seen a video reel-to-reel recorder which used stacked reels in order to be more compact. Can't remember whether it was Sony, Panasonic or some other brand.

    I have a Japanese 3" rim-drive battery reel recorder with stacked reels, and a couple Sanyo-made hand-held recorders that use stacked reels inside a plastic cartridge, plus a couple 1950s battery Mohawk Midgetape 'coat-pocket' recorders that use stacked reels inside a metal cartridge. Also, a late '60s German Bauer 8mm movie projector with stacked reels. On television many years ago, I watched a spy-movie filmed in Spain, that featured a 7" reel recorder with stacked reels. No idea who made it. Those are the only stacked-reel record or playback devices I've seen - until now!

    Interesting. I have seen the "Radionette Soundrecorder FM" somewhere before, and it uses the same principle as this. In fact, they seem pretty similar.
    I own an old Radionette Soundmaster 45 deLuxe - it's a stationary receiver, with build in turntable - FM only, 2x25W sinus, 2x40W "musik" - it's from approx 1969.
    Thanks for the video - nice to see that there are more than Tandberg to old Norwegian HiFi.

    I used to have a 3M cantina commercial music system that had the reels in a simular arrangement, but they were contained in a large cartridge. the top reel was spring loaded to keep the tension right, and when the tape reached the end, there as a staple that would tweak a micro switch, and then the tape would reverse and the tape head would move up/down 1 level
    [ I don't remember which ] and play that track, and so on and so forth in this fashion.

      I used to have a 3M Cantina machine ,and one cartridge , it would play 8 Hrs of music. I would run it while working in my hone office. the machine pooped out, but I wound the tape from the cartridge onto one of the empty reels for my Sony quad reel to reel player, and figured out the right speed setting, and used to play it that way. I could choose 1 of 2 tracks , by turning down the volume for one track while playing the other. and then swap the reels and play the other 2 tracks. which were recorded in reverse.

    Should that not have a set of Helical scan heads rotating at 1800 rpm which would mean it could record the Intermediate Frequency at 455Khz to tape via the Helical scan heads and also mean playback back into the demodulation system.

    Now that's a beautiful and compact design. The mechanism must be a nightmare to work on. Ha ha.
    Two questions.
    How do you play side 2 ?
    Is it really 4 track or just 2 tracks on one side. (as you can't turn the tape over as such) ?

    • @SoundsVintage
      @SoundsVintage  Год назад +2

      You can play (and record) all 4 tracks in one direction. This will lead to comparability problems on your friends 'normal' 4 track.
      How do you play side two? Umm....

    • @SoundsVintage
      @SoundsVintage  Год назад +3

      Also, it is a nightmare to work on. It uses a three layer approach, both electrically and mechanically. And I got it DOA.

      なるほど、裏面分は使用できるけど、逆方向になるので、通常の4トラック2チャンネルの機械とは互換性がないのですね。
      まあ4トラック4チャンネルの機械で再生はできますね。でも1⅞ ipsは4トラック4チャンネルの機械にはあまり搭載されていないですね。
      オートリバースはコスト的に難しかったのでしょうね。
