  • Well, I'm not a fan of unit rides, and have avoided them almost entirely from this point forward. One of the reasons is getting caught during an inspection!

    I always wondered why Stobe (and others) didn’t admonish future riders: if you decide to ride a unit, above all, be respectful. Don’t leave trash, don’t piss on the floor. Dont play with the controls…dont ruin it for future riders.
    It would take 1 second for RR inspectors to open the lav door…why don’t they?

      They must really be in a hurry or not expecting anyone. Seems like open door sign card close door.

      They often do. I always keep everything clean and I don't lock the door, a dead give away;)

    Other than the inspection, that had to have been one of the most comfortable rides you’ve ever had.

      @@JumpingoffthecliffI’ve found that people treat me like their grandpa now that I’m 61. They aren’t as suspicious as when I was 20. I’m almost invisible like when I go through airport security. They don’t even check me anymore. It’s great.

    The inspector could confirm if someone were hiding in the washroom by yelling, “Alright, come out of there.” Most people would probably not call his bluff. LOL.

      One year 3 of us and a dog were hiding in the bathroom in Elko. Inspector came through the back door, checked off and started going down the steps and opened the door from the nose. Then you hear him close it take a step back on first step in cab then boom he kicks the bathroom door open. Was surprised all of us squeezed in there. He eneded up being cool, told us to stay seated low on the floor, to not touch anything and to have a nice ride. As he was leaving my buddy said he him "I gotta ask ya before you leave how the hell did you know we were in there?" The man turned around and all he said while leaving "I suggest you take a shower next stop you get off" 😂😂 funny stuff!!

    "I know there is going to be an inspection at a crew change" - I would think they would do an inspection at a refueling. Do they not need to refuel every day also?

    • @Jumpingoffthecliff
      @Jumpingoffthecliff  7 месяцев назад +1

      No, they tend to refuel less often. They will sometimes refuel where it is least expensive, which I think is why the UP often refuels in Rawling, WY.

    • @Jumpingoffthecliff
      @Jumpingoffthecliff  7 месяцев назад +1

      They only inspect once a day, so you look on a card in the cab that saws when the engine was last inspected. If it has already been inspected you're good until the next day.
