What i ♥♥♥ about most Americans & Dutch people is that they are both openminded, able to switch cultural gears etc. Their flexibility makes them very compatible.

I met several Dutch people and they were very opened minds. The Dutch are beautiful both the land and people.

Eating with a knife and fork is nothing to do with Dutch culture, it's called good manners.

Thank you for sharing this video. I feel pride to be a dutchie :)Don't let Jacques get you down with his comments. It's like we say: een azijnpisser.About Sinterklaas, there are indeed a lot of similarities with the American Christmas tradition, but we believe they are both different, like Dutch and German isn't the same for us but for foreigners a lot of the time it seems similar. I hope you all come back someday and make a lot more memories :)

BTW, Sinterklaas our version of Christmas? Santa Claus is based on Sinterklaas and similar people, not the other way (a)round. Lot's of Dutch celebrate Sinterklaas AND Christmas.

    • @zulawoo

'Santa Claus' Is literally the corruption of the Dutch Sinterklaas when they settled in the US. That eventually evolved into santa.
Also, he is actually Saint Nicholas. A saint. You guys should know that =P

16:33 I congratulate you on your insight in the differences you encountered in people of the Netherlands. I admire the amount of respect you have for the dutch. Not many non-dutch people can handle our 'brand of honesty' let alone appreciate it. And obviously you did get something out of it even if it wasn't what you set out for. You returned a changed man... maybe even a better man?

That last guy actually learned something valuable: Yes I am a mormone.. and there are a LOT of people out there that are not! BUT they can be real beautiful and loving and caring people whatsoever... Once you can come over that feeling of: Hey I know better and I want to teach you to be like me... you are a better person :-)

The final few minutes of this video are the clearest, You knock on people's door, trying to win souls, you don't win a single one but you have the best time ever. This shows exactly why the church is a lie, and the real power is love, not bowing for some god

Eating with fork and knife is not at all special Dutch culture: lot of people eat with a fork only, or with a spoon and fork. I learned my children also eating with chop sticks, and with their fingers, but that is higher education for world travellers.

Sinterklaas actually is a representation of a sanctified bishop, to be precise the bishop of Myra - strange enough a place in Turkey in stead of Spain where he purportedly lives. His "tall hat" is called a mitre, a religious head garb.
To add a bit of trivia; Sinerklaas is the patron saint of Amsterdam

SOME ADVICE FROM A DUTCH GUY...
!!!NEVER TELL A DUTCH PERSON WHAT TO DO!!! Or tell them that you are there to SAVE them... (Huh? Who are YOU to save me, and from what?!?)...
That will instantly DESTROY your relationship with any Dutch person... Just be yourself, BE HONEST, be real, and you'll be fine...
[Edit]: This guy gets it @20:53

This is very interesting. I am Dutch but my family have settled in the US in michigan area. I am looking at how much of this transferred with us to the US. I also now live in the south US state and they believe northern are very blunt. I wonder if its due to so many dutch from that area. But many of the dutch are Christian. Many of my family are protestant and catholic, many ministers and priest in the family and missionaries. That maybe why your turned away lot.

10:17 freesland, the city of Heerenveen is about 80% dutch, there are not many frisians in that city, otherwise you would think different about this whole subject. If you think the Dutch are so direct, you have seen nothing yet if you meet frisians which are a culture within the dutch culture. They think different and even talk a different language from scandinavian origin. Frisians dont like outsiders which tell them how to live.....
You have been with a selected group of people which are open to your fairytale. Millions of dutch just shovel the food into their mouths like americans do: with a fork only... You have been with the people who consider themselves to "the better ones", and yes, they are often open for religions.

That is a thing in every language. Americans can both refer to people from the USA or from the continent. One word can mean different things.
