"Love how honest they are"
Honestly, we just love complaining
Have to admit, while we are very honest compared to some other cultures, a large part is probably indeed because we just like to complain. About everything. :p
Ja dat klopt gewoon en ik heb harder gelachen dan ik zou moeten lachen
Ik ben daar wel goed in ja🤣🤣
If that ain't true, I don't know what is.

Me: Well, yeah....
Every time the Netherlands gets named in a video, the VOC start to take over the comment section.

When Dutch people see a video about the Netherlands made by a Amercan:
Allow us to introduce ourselves
We just have to watch any video containing our country haha

He loves kibbeling, stamppot, and döner. He is properly cultured.
People are just telling him to come back because his Dutch is cute. COME BACK MY FRIEND. IF YOUR DUTCH IS GOOD YOU’RE ALWAYS WELCOME.
"The Dutch weather is capable of uniting the four seasons in one week"
Simon Carmiggelt
Fantastic, I love it when you say the Dutch are straight forward. Come back any time.
I lived in the UK for a few years and i recognise the straight forward, honesty thing. Dont ask me how i am doing if you dont want to hear me telling you how i am doing. 😂😂
I never had someone correct me on my recycle techniques
A full time job in the Netherlands is anywhere from 36 to 40 hours a week. The people you talked to must have worked part-time.
Other than that, spot on.
I like it how he talks so clean about the diffirences. He doesn't judge, he just tells. I love it
Er is niks schattiger dan niet Nederlandse mensen Nederlands horen praten😂
Damn, your Dutch is good!
The recycle thing is because the workers wont empty it if its contaminated too much
Love how this guy actually likes dutch people. Really weird
Wow, your Dutch is insanely good! You're welcome here anytime my friend!

I love how outsiders love the netherlands and we dutch people are complaining about it😂
"Dutch people are everywhere!"
Yeah.. to be expected when you live in The Netherlands.
Your Dutch is amazing, of course you can come back♡🇳🇱
Accurate translation of the final part of the video:
"I want to thank you for the good memories that I have had in the Netherlands.
I am so thankful that I was allowed to get to know you and learn from you.
I, I love you, and, and I hope that I... I hope that I am permitted to come back, in a while.
And, I, I am really thankful for your examples and that I, and that I was allowed to learn a lot about not just the Netherlands, but the Dutchmen, because it has created me in many, in many areas in my life. I love you and thanks again."
It has a bit of a formal, "old" ring to it, reminding me of Christian gatherings, especially at the word "geschapen", which is a word used in religion 99% of the time and translates roughly to "created", as in the creations of a god. It's funny to see how different sentence structures, use of words and things like that affect speech when speaking a less familiar language, like when he asked for permission to come back. :p
Being straight forward actually intensifies your experience with someone, cloaking what you want to say is unnecessary and pointless
wow. as a proud dutchman i can say : Je spreekt echt super goed Nederlands! ;-) well done in the end! and you pronounced all so well! You are Dutchified so well ;-)
Sounds like he is Dutchified :D

The end in dutch was almost no accent at all he did really well!
Love it, how you are open minded to our society and i hope you will come back a next time.
His Dutch is quite good. He even has a slightly Dutch accent :p (when heard by a Flemish person)
Impressive!
As a Dutch person I agree. His American accent still comes through, but he definitely also managed to get a lot of the Dutch accent right.
Is the difference between Nederlands Dutch and Flemish comparable to the difference between British English and American English?
@@Chris_Antibes nah in the netherlands we have a lot of accents you have hoog nederlands which is like reading from a dictionary a lot more most big itys have their own accent i myself have a bit of an achterhoeks accent
Oh he’s so cute when speaking Dutch. Like seeing a cat play with a laserlight
I'm very suprised aswell that we where litteraly almost everywhere in history.
Everytime I think we are so little as country but had a descent impact for such a small country.

I worked in Amsterdam with an Irish girl who had to see a doctor because of back problems. She came back very irate. He told her that her back hurt because she was fat.
Truth be told, she had put on a bit of weight and English was not the doctor's first language. But still I can see how she would have been put of by the directness.
Wie is Nederlands?
Who's dutch?
your "g" pronunciation is really good for a non-native Dutch speaker!
We also were the first country to legalize gay marriage in 2001🌈

Oh, en kom langs wanneer je wil. Al eens naar de Efteling geweest?
Nice to hear such a positive reaction.. I don’t think it is only the Dutch.. but also your way off doing and the whole interaction between you and the people you met. I think you are the best example off how we should be positive about other cultures, so we know each other in a good way. That could be the way for peace on this planet.. love you..
It’s so funny that, being Dutch, I have no idea about the Dutch bluntness. And I’m so proud of you that you like haring! I just ate one, a half an hour ago😀. And your Dutch is sooooo good! Your very welcome to come back here, always. 🌷🌷🌷stay healthy and blessed!
this guy be like: “the dutch people are everywhere in the netherlands”
me: no shit sherlock!
In the late 50s there was a Dutch comedian (can anybody suggest his name?) who broadcast on Hilversum radio (RIP) and he addressed Dutch stereotypes. I remember one thing he discussed: "Why do Dutch people leave curtains open when it's dark outside?" So neighbours can see in at how clean and tidy their house is". From my observation of my Dutch aunts, uncles, cousins and their kids - IT'S TRUE! Completely unlike my British home.
I also remember dad, when I was about 6, showing me how haring should be eaten: he held it by its tail, twirled it around to loosen the bones, dangled it into his oesophagus, tightened the throat, and pulled out the bones. The problem I have with that memory is that I was young, and dad would also perform magic tricks that would convince a kid of that age. I wonder if the herring demonstration was a trick. Sadly, I can no longer ask.
Wow your Dutch is só good! I’m impressed! I watched this random video, and was curious about you experience with the Dutch country and people. My family came over from the US last year and the loved it too!
yo dude when you ever return to the netherlands, come in july. There is a huge festival on malieveld in Den Hague. It is called Tong Tong Fair, but most people know it as the Pasar Malam. It is an indonesian festival, with music, lots of indonesian food, and all different kinds of little shops.
I want to visit The Netherlands some day, love from Romania🇷🇴
Die outro was ziek grappig hahaha geweldig dat je naar nederland bent geweest haha
As a dutch person i can say that the recylcing thing is not true at all. Most people don’t care about it at all.
lol, i am dutch too. it isn't 'not true at all'. i think that if somebody see you do that, they wil at least say that you are wrong
Jammer genoeg
The directness is something the Dutch and Germans have in common.
Wauw you speak good Dutch too Thnx for liking our little country
R u dutch
He looks like that dude from The Wonder Years...and that's a compliment.
kevin arnold...Fred Savage. dat was echt een goede serie.
the average work week in my part of the Netherlands is 37.5hrs a week.
Wow, your Dutch is so good! Where did you live in The Netherlands? It’s good to hear from you talking about all the good things I take for granted being born and living here. Puts things in a new perspective.
I am impressed with how well you speak Dutch and thank you for loving the Netherlands.
Dutch is hard to learn and speak (even still for me sometimes), but he pretty much nailed it as a foreigner.
G E K O L O N I S E E R D !
Omg, je Nederlands is echt on point man!
Glad to hear you enjoyed your time in the Netherlands! You speak Dutch very well, consider me impressed! :)
The thing with the stairs is mostly in the really old buildings though (from before WWII). Modern buildings have 'normal' stairs
And true, if you want to know a honest opinion, ask a Dutchie. The directness is more clear in the Holland area than the 'provinces', in my experience. In general, people from Amsterdam will just speak their mind, which I love, whilst people near the German and Belgian borders tend to be a bit more cautious with that.
With Dutch people being everywhere, I thought you would mean physically... which is too true XD Went on holiday in France, visited some tiny little village and went to the bakery to get some lunch... The cashier was Dutch... Another holiday, middle of nowhere on some mountain in Scotland. No one there! Oh, some people are approaching us... Dutch. Celebrated new years in another tiny village in Wales. Called my parents to wish them a happy new year, and heard a group of people behind me repeat after me 'gelukkig nieuwjaar!' Seriously?! It is such a tiny nation, why are we everywhere?!
Nederlanders zijn simpel! Staat er “The Netherlands” in de titel, dan klikken we!
your from america and loves the netherlands and i am from the netherlands and loves america
Ik blijf me verbazen hoe goed zij Nederlands spreken. Knap hoor!
En natuurlijk mag je terug komen! Anytime. 😊
Holy I'm native dutch your pronunciation is extremely good! I really didn't expected that xD!
The reasons the houses are so narrow is because back in the days taxes were charged based on the size of the building's facade. So the wider facade, the more tax you pay. Despite that the houses are actually rather deep.
wij ook van jou! dankjewel voor je bezoek! en ben blij dat je het naar je zin had! :)
Nice to hear it man💪👊
And in the end that your speaking Dutch, it sounds pretty clear so keep going on, and our trucking style it pretty awesome too😎
You are so good in speaking Dutch! You just can say correctly Dutch the ‘g’ and Yes of course you can come back! Voor iedereen die Nederlands is, fijne dag
Thanks for your nice comments on our country.
he speaks dutch pretty well.. sure you're allowed to come back... we love americans who speak dutch though we don't give them much of a chance to speak it while they are in the netherlands, in average we speak well above average english hahaha :-)
Hi, happy to hear about your positive experience in the Netherlands! Thanks for sharing your story. And your Dutch sounds so great, good job
Wow, I'm learning about the Dutch culture so I can help the person that I love with this culture shock. She is getting frequently offended with Dutch people but I'm learning that it is just your culture. I would love to see a Dutch reaction to my culture. They would probably hate it.
Julio Souza yeah probably (joking 🤪)
I do not hope that offending people is part of our culture. 😉
But where are you from, Julio Souza? Maybe someone can react to your culture.
Thanks for the compliments :)
And from my point of view, you are allowed to come back if you want to :)
There is one remark I want to make though. Indeed, it is true that working weeks are smaller in the Netherlands than in the USA, but they are not 20-25 hours here. The offficial full-time working week is 40 hours. However, indeed, many people work 4 days a week, i.e. 32 hours a week. The main reason is care. Day nurseries for children are expensive, so couples tend to work both 4 days a week, so that they only need to pay for 3 days of day nursery. Additionally, people in their 40s and 50s often have to do some care activities for their parents, and sometimes aunts and uncles. That is also a reason why people often work part-time.
And a final remark, it often occurs that people take their work laptops home to continue working there.
In the 1500's-1800's people in The Netherlands were taxed based on the width of their building. This is why so many old buildings are very narrow and tall. The buildings are not narrow because the owner wanted it that way, they are narrow to lower their tax burden.
I love the dutch part at the end. Someone spend time learning the language!!!
Awesome! Great to have you here!
Thanks for your compliments, much appriciated. We're not perfect, but reasonbly happy.
What I wonder is; has your stay here changed you? Has it changed your view on topics, you were brought up with?
Topics like; cycling, politics, democracy, healthcare??
Keep traveling, keep experiencing more cultures, expand your mind.
Thanks and stay save.
Working 40 hours a week is actually pretty normal.
It’s a fulltime job, but a lot of people work parttime so yes, it’s variable but the standard is working 40 hours.
I love this i'm from the Netherlands and every thing is so true i love it and the last few words
dankjewel voor deze fijne video heel leuk om naar te luisteren en horen wat andere mensen er van vinden.
36 to 49 hours is still the normal numbers of hours for a full-time job. However many people have part time jobs in order to combine work and family. This way both partners can work and take care of the children.
Bedankt voor de leuke boodschap aan het einde van de video!!
Translation: thanks for the nice message on the end of the video
thanks so much for those kind words. I often visit the US and your place is great too. Love the National Parks. Amazing how well you speak Dutch.
Thanks for your insights and thoughts! Really enjoyed the video
average workweek (full time) = 32-36 hours. lower is defined as 'part time'. The reason for shorter full time is mostly the automation. There are more pple then work so government and unions negotiated shorter work weeks for a lower pay raise. FYI, you're welcome
Your dutch is pretty good!! Idk why you like it tho, it is boring here ugh. My dream is to live in america...
Everyone who watches this comes from the Netherlands.
when he began to speak dutch🤯👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for the praise.
I think, this country is messed up with the rules/regulations.
But yes. There is a lot to be gratefull about, that you often forget to notice.
