Hello, my dad bought one of these brand new while serving in the RAF stationed in Cyprus in 1968. When leaving Cyprus in 1970, he ferried it from Cyprus to Greece and then drove it across Europe to the UK. He kept it for many years and eventually rust got a hold and he ended up part exchanging it for a Ford (and regretted buying the Ford) A few years later he bought a Toyota Carina and kept it until he passed on. Love Toyotas and it was great to see a Crown again! Good luck with the resto.
It warms the heart to see someone commit to an old project like this that’s got a lot of hours and elbow grease in it. I’m glad you’ve just made the decision to get it done and not let it linger :)
Just seen in the flesh, the sound got my attention, I told my son who puts a big block in a crown and he introduced me into the world of Al and SkidFactory, got to shake hands- looks great in real life
wild walk in the park for me, I actually remember your build thread in the old toymods forums and the image of it sitting outside your shed after the swap is when I realised you were the same person during the first episode of the stagea build, blew my mind as you gave me advice on how to 3sgte swap a fwd celica.
I was laying in bed scrolling the phone with a frown Then skids from the shed revealed a 68 Crown An engine it needs will it be an old JZ a surprise was levied Its a big block Chevy!
Roses are Red Al get his crown Big skids to be done Will blow the shed right down. Looking forward to watching this build. Crown lemon squash to finish off?
I'd have stuck with plan B (the 1GZ) myself, but this will be an interesting watch, to be sure. I love the "It's not coming off this hoist until it's under its own power" motivation. I too have a project that's been parked far too long, so I totally get this energy.
Agree it would have been the perfect match but probably impossible without some kind of extreme subframe work or custom oil pan wizardry since the GZ came in exactly two variations and was fitted to the Century and nothing else so no chance of grabbing a specific type. Agree on the "just make it done" vibe, though. When the dust covers touch a car it's gone for years, it's gotta be right in your face to keep it going lol
Man I loved what u have done with the Toyota Crown. I am a real fan as I have owned two. I tried to find your final showing of the big v8 test, couldnt find it. That was quite a challenge for you.The first of mine was a 69 to which I fitted a 72 disc power brake system , to assist with towing control after nearly a disaster towing a 4 wheel trailer loaded with a marquee. The big surprise was when I was involded in a 'News' 24 motor cycle rally in Sth Australia, and I drove my Crown to the event on a 10km flat straight road at 160km/hr (100mph) on an unmodified engine. It 'sang'. With my second one, a 68, a reconned the engine, a first for me, right to the bones, and installed it in my shed, no the car not the shed....After 10,000 km's I treated the engine with 'slick50' engine conditioner, and we drove to Darwin from Adelaide, much overloaded, and then the circuit of the East Coast, 8000kms back home. The engine neveer failed us and the 'Slick50' wear in, had the engine power and operation increased by about 30%. (wheel spin stuff.) Thort like and your fans of Crowns would like to hear this.
Thanks Al. My long term project is IN the shed, next to the shed and behind the shed! LOL! ONE DAY! Good to see others finally get an old friend back up and running with better than original parts. 👍
Hell yeah. Was a fan back in the day and glad to see the old crown getting finished. Here to another Ms55 on the road.. Hopefully I get cruise with it a summernats!
That’s a really sharp car for its age. You don’t see those type of body lines anymore. Reminds me of an old Nova. We are trying to get out Duster finished, he wants to use it for his driving test this coming summer .
This will be a pure example of greatness, Big Block n Glide is perfect 👌👌 nothing compares to the share volume of fumes and exhaust note thundering... Super stoked to see you push through on your long term project!! It's the ultimate redemption build ☝☝
I have a 68 ms55 deluxe just sitting out the back, Its been patiently waiting to be started on for the last few years. This might just be the motivation I need.
I almost bought some stickers but when i got to checkout YOU want $9.00 postage to send them to Townsville . Love your work and its great to see a bloke that KNOWS his stuff.
We don't have any control over postage costs man. If it is a long sticker or a sheet it has to go in an A4 padded bag or you will receive a mangled wet mess.
Killa! I have been watching your channel for a lil while now but had no idea you had a Crown! I have a couple MS65 Crowns. I like the MS55s can't wait to see progress!
Boys can't wait brings back memories when we put a very warm holden 6 with a corona box and holden center into a mates ms55 and terrorized the local streets back in the 90s great cars can't wait to see this ting finished
My father and I are in the middle of restoring the exact same car, except ours has the 4 cylinder, all we need to do is paint and the upholstery, It was my great grandmothers and she had it from brand new.
Long time watcher, first time commentor: so excited to see this build. Love to see a passion project and The challenges of mixing big block chev and toyota is super intriguing! can't wait to see how you tackle/solve and watch this come to life!
So it would seem Al has gotten the itch for a personal drag style built car. The skinnies up front means wide ones out back, the big block and glide, that's not a cruiser style setup and I think that's fantastic!!
I had a ms55 crown ute years ago. It had a Holden 202 and a trimatic. The clapped out 202 blew the stock diff up from doing 1 wheel peelers on a 235 rear tyre. Ha, I guess the twin strombergs gave a little extra power. I planned on putting a 350 iron Chev and a auto / and 9" into it, but it never happened. It rusted out in my backyard, then I ended cutting it up and scrapping it with a tear in my eye.
This was my first car in '89. It had a 186 conversion but the original diff. Used to almost redline by the time you got to 100. An EH diff bolted on and fixed that. The drum brakes were always trying to kill me. Get rid of them. Looking forward to the build!
I'm an old enough fart to remember when these Crowns were sold brand new in Toyota dealer here in my hometown. I even had the old brochures saved for years until my dad threw them in the trash bin. I will stay chewn'd 😎
Awesome! Glad to see it. Old pics and videos are cool. Gives me hope for my yard car that I've owned 15 years and only been able to put about $100 into. Very excited to watch this work and see this complete... but not as much as Allen I suspect!
Friend of mine used to have a 1969 RS50 Tyota Crown, he actually used it for AutoX, but it was a really cool looking car, the old Toyotas were pretty cool. ^^

Just like to reiterate that I love your work guys. You’ve built and improved on countless cool cars and I love it. Cheers
Love how al is getting his own car done!
The bloopers and outtakes always crack me up. Thanks for throwing them in every vid, Woody

i picked one up recently, exact same as this. White 1968 crown, i love it
“It’s not coming off the hoist” gave me wolf of wallstreet “I’m not leaving” vibes
Good luck fellas! Will be following closely

I like ya Toyota crown 👑
Thanks mate for turning my froun
Upside down?
Cheers 🍻
Never stop doing the outtakes ❤️
love this project, happy for you!
I just want to give nod to how good your editing is now. It felt better than tv quality car show editing.
Can’t wait. You can not beat the sound of a big block!

Stocked to see this. Can tell how proud you are of your son taking the same interests as you also. Keep up the sick work guys.
Lovin Gav's superliminal approach to merch sales
Nice wheels Alan!
You get those ones in Benny?
@@TheosEpicVideos they were from the Cresta.
@@BennysCustomWorks
Hence the shirt. Soon as I read the reply the penny dropped.
Keen to watch this BBC (Big Block Crown) grow! love the work lads
I learned how to drive in one of those in 1971. In Apia, Western Samoa. Belonged to a friend.
Awesome, every King needs a Crown! 👑
I was really hoping Al was going to do a silky smooth 2J ~400rwkw build, But turns out, he already did haha. That V8 is going to be mental.
I can't wait to see it done. BBC skids are the jam.
Absolutely loving this build! My 496 bbc is currently being rebuilt, should be about 650hp. 👌
Thanks Al. My long term project is IN the shed, next to the shed and behind the shed! LOL! ONE DAY! Good to see others finally get an old friend back up and running with better than original parts. 👍

Holy shit is that the world's fastest fridge???
@@joshwebster8735 yeah man the old wagz is still kicking. Same owner etc..
That thing is absolutely gorgeous
How crazy is it to see the footage of the empty tin shed with the dirt driveway, and how its evolved over the last few years to what it is now 😍😍
Loving the start of the crown 👑 build. And the huko wheels are sick
Looking forward to this Al. I went through a cyclone in a '68 Crown. I was 10 at the time and I've never forgotten that trip.
That’s a really sharp car for its age. You don’t see those type of body lines anymore. Reminds me of an old Nova.
We are trying to get out Duster finished, he wants to use it for his driving test this coming summer .
I am fairly sure it is styled off Nova/CHevy 11 lines. Which can't be a bad thing.
Absolutely love the colour and wheels. So pumped to see an old Crown get restored and back on the road.
And I just sat down with a... lemon squash. What a pleasant coincidence. Cheers!
Same

Super stoked to see you push through on your long term project!! It's the ultimate redemption build ☝☝
Enjoy the the shed moments with your son - your shed has changed a lot looking great👍🏻
I remember seeing this on rslibertyclub when I was searching up on how to jz swap my ms112. Glad to see you still got it!
Bloody good piece to camera, Al!
I have a 68 ms55 deluxe just sitting out the back, Its been patiently waiting to be started on for the last few years.

Finally I've followed this closely I've got a ms45 crown with a boosted 7m set up
Love to see rejuvenated interest in old projects. Gives me hope I'll get back to mine👌

His the wolverine in the motor industry!
My father and I are in the middle of restoring the exact same car, except ours has the 4 cylinder, all we need to do is paint and the upholstery, It was my great grandmothers and she had it from brand new.
Its a good feeling when your boy starts liking the same stuff your in to #ProudFatherMoment
Every time I watch the content on this channel I get reinvigorated to continue my build. Briefly.
Long time watcher, first time commentor: so excited to see this build. Love to see a passion project and The challenges of mixing big block chev and toyota is super intriguing! can't wait to see how you tackle/solve and watch this come to life!
Good on you for getting your own vehicle into the shop. Easy to put your own projects off when you have other reaponsibilities... 👍
Love this, Al. Got my own 8 year garden car that I hope to get going this year too! Looking forward to the updates
Woodys jet black hair as a Youngsta . The grays are legit though . Shows wisdom 🤔 . 😂 👍🏼👊🏼💯🍻
Excellent nostalgia ep. It’s appreciated, Alan.
Got me looking for a V12 in America now....never knew it was a thing
Harrop Supercharged Big Block, Powerglide and 9 inch, looking forward to this build.
I remember seeing that car in the readers rides in the old "zoom" magazine.
So it would seem Al has gotten the itch for a personal drag style built car. The skinnies up front means wide ones out back, the big block and glide, that's not a cruiser style setup and I think that's fantastic!!
So excited to follow the Crown build! A Car with a good story is always great.
So glad i did an audio grab of the full into music - I miss it... But loving the new content :)
Ooh nice Hoshinos on the 'suka ;)
Big Block...You have the Toyota gods approval. Godspeed
Wow I just wish I had this 68 Crown. If I took this thing to car meets and cruises. Here were I live in the US. I'd be a legend. 😁🥃🚬🤘
I have been waiting for this moment for years! So stoked to see the Crown is finally getting done!
I'm really looking forward to this build. Top gear power skids for days
those wheels kick ass
I had a ms55 crown ute years ago. It had a Holden 202 and a trimatic. The clapped out 202 blew the stock diff up from doing 1 wheel peelers on a 235 rear tyre. This build sounds awesome, going to be a great series
Nice work bloke, it will twist that chassis with a big block. Your young bloke will love it.
The most positive motivating thing on the RUclips! Cant wait lets get this started, dont edit anything!!
Congratulations on hatching out the Bogun that is hidden deep in all our son's.
I'm an old enough fart to remember when these Crowns were sold brand new in Toyota dealer here in my hometown. I even had the old brochures saved for years until my dad threw them in the trash bin. I will stay chewn'd 😎
Ah! Excellent! I get to have a good look at the wheels on the car! Looks bloody good lads!
Even if I do say so myself.
Very nice work on those brother!! Perfect!! 👌👌👌👌

Way to go, the variety of engines you guys play with makes for a refreshing change!.If it goes hard I like it!!.
LOVE the hectic JDM wheels! They’re so right for the car. 😍
