Why negative comments? This guy ripped and a solid dude as well. I preferred the 80s 90s style. No flashy airs just power surfing. Although saw JonJon surf and hes a great mix of new and old.
GerLach RIPPED for his time and they were riding longer flat square-tail boards back then. Surfboard technology was still evolving... He was almost a WC 'twice' and both those years he didn't surf all the tour events as the winner had.. This guy was a true Soul~Surfer before Dane Reynolds & others. #Legend
Love old footage. Thanks for sharing. Brad rips. Always had a way of combining smoothness with raw gouging power on par with Curren - just in his own unique way
Breakin' On Thru from 1992, one of famed surf cinematographer Sonny Miller's first surf docs. On the cutting edge with it's grunge and disco soundtrack. 🤙🏼
. . After Tom Curren, it was the greatest hope of Californian and American surf until the middle of the 90's. It was to have pinched the title that stayed with Barton Lynch, or one of the ones that came with Damian Hardman and then Derek Ho. He was an exceptional surfer. Classic line with power repertoire. You can't understand how you got lost on the circuit. It came out dimly. Since 1992, surfing has changed hands. New talents appeared, and the level changed. Kelly Slater appeared and commanded the attack to the standards of the time. Curren said he gave up running the circuit when he was in the water with Shane Powell, and he couldn't understand what it was. I want to make it clear that there will never be a surfer with the level presented by the generation of Curren, Ocvy, Carroll and Potter. They were the inspiration for the Momentum generation. therefore, one step up. Coming back, Brad Gerlach, will always be recognized as one of the greatest talents of the time, and is in the hall of the great surfers of all time.
Slater was already Slater at that time. What is important and great when watching these 70´s, 80´s and 90´s videos is that we can clearly realize that a unique way of expressing themselves was the focus. I mean, there were dozens of very original surfers, with extremely unique styles. Nowadays, since the beginning of the 2.000´s, I see that the maneuvers are much more radical, modern and that surfing is an universe with many variations, but I don´t see too many surfers with so unique styles.
no clue where you find these vids, pedro. if you can locate a quiksilver promo vid from the mid-90's called "3 fins firing" i'd pay a pretty penny for it. awesome stuff, man.
Don't offer this guy $$ for ripping off other filmmaker's work. Awesome stuff? Yeah - for the guy who actually produced it. I'm tired of these clowns ripping off our work.
@@MrIsomeryou said our work. Could you name something that I would find you in that would be production distribution any some along those lines. Thanks brother
Gerlach has one of the best styles of all time.

I agree about his competitive career, however I think we throw around the word Legend too much. Aloha
