    My dad was a carrier pilot back in the day. He flew A-6 in Vietnam. He told me that the most amazing thing he got to see was the absolute perfection of the crews working the flight deck. How they rearm, move around, refuel, and relaunch those planes is like a NASCAR pit crew.

      Please give your dad a hug. A carrier deck is an incredibly dangerous place to be.

    Great video. While none of the aircraft shown was the one I worked on (Lockhead S-3A Viking) it brought back many fond memories of my time on the flight decks of the USS America CV-66 and USS Independence CV-62. I was in from 1975 to 1981 and 1983 to 1985. To this very day, I still miss not being in the Navy. I was in VS-28 both tours.
    I remember one time I was a participant in a fire drill as shown in the end of the video. They had put me into the stretcher, picked me up to carry me to the staging area and they dropped me halfway there. Of course, I started laughing and I got yelled at as I was supposed to be unconscious.

    Excellent. Please make more videos about the aircraft carrier, especially the launch launcher that is attached to the front wheels of the aircraft to launch it from the surface of the carrier. I mean how it works. Thank you.

      Notice the 8-blade props? They were added to handle the increased power of a newer heavier engine. Adding a fuel probe adds a lot of weight too. The older engine with a heavy probe would impact the flight characteristics. More weight with the fuel probe, more power, heavier engines and props, basically the same flight characteristics but longer missions.

      @@briancooper2112 The contract for air-to-air refueling was not given to Northrup Grumman until 2013, well after the prop and avionics upgrades were let. The E-2D advanced avionics aircraft first flew in 2007. Obviously the Navy put their priority on the primary mission first, AEW, and then on extending the mission on-station times.

    During my initial tour of duty in the navy, sadly I witnessed an E2C go down off the coast of San Diego, Ca. I was walking on the pier, headed back to my ship when I observed a huge ball of fire on the horizon. Reported it to the ships Duty Officer who contacted our squadron commander at Ballast Point, who later confirmed the aircraft going down. Sad day.

    What happens? Well the aircraft goes off the end and woopsee doo. It goes plop into the big ocean and sinks to the bottom. Sad. But the pilots eject if lucky enough. And they land in the ocean too. But they'll be ok. The boys and girls on the deck will haul them out. What !!! 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

    • @JazAero
      @JazAero 8 месяцев назад

      E2's don't have ejection seats. Chances are they won't get out okay if it hits the water. The pilot and copilot have an emergency hatch release above their heads. But for the three people in the back there is only one escape hatch.

    If that plane had followed procedures, he would have used full power when the hook catches. All carrier planes are suppose to do that.

    • @johntrottier1162
      @johntrottier1162 8 месяцев назад +4

      He WAS at full power and that's part of what saved him. He caught the wire, and it was slowing him down when the cable broke. At that moment he DID NOT have enough airspeed to fly. If he had pulled the nose up then and tried to fly, he would have stalled and crashed.
      What he DID, and what earned the medal, was use every foot of that ~80 feet between the flight deck and the water to gain back the speed he needed to fly while getting his gear up and reducing drag. To let the plane fall in order gain speed while you are watching the water come at you and waiting until you have the airspeed to pull back on the stick and gain altitude is why he needs a wheelbarrow to carry those balls.

    It's hard to believe that we weren't shown any of the E-2s or C-2s folding or unfolding their wings. They're huge aircraft, and it's the most spectacular thing they do on deck. And why tf is there a hovercraft taking up space in this video? The only thing we learned about landing failures is that pilots who save their aircraft when the cable breaks get a Medal of Valor.
