Hi all, I know this radio has gone out of stock quite a few times. It also seems that it may now be suffering from QC issues, so I can't continue to recommend it. I've posted a similar one (almost identical) without the LCD display in the video description which looks to be the best option, and has excellent reviews. Also, check out the RF750 from Radioddity, video is now up! ruclips.net/video/FPRKZcz_b4I/видео.html

This looks like the same one. The Amazon listing has four different models to choose from depending upon which option you click on, so that can be confusing. All the terrible one-star reviews (to the left of the "Verified Purchase" in the reviews) are for the small A1 model. @Matt Covers Tech, Here goes it! (At no time should you plug that external power plug coming from the wall outlet for a
period of time and to observe what happens when that radio is turned back on by doing the following sequences that you
may have to perform a series of visual inspections for bad soldering joints, frayed wires and multimeter continuity checks
and total observations are complete). If you are too uncomfortable about performing the following service checks then by
    all rights DON'T do it!!!
Since that other Raddy Radio keeps trying to power cycle repeatedly, try the following steps from start to finish....
1.) With the radio off, make sure to unplug the radio cord that supplies power from the wall outlet first.
2.) Extract the battery(s), both the consumables and the internal rechargeable if it has one that you can get at, initially.
3.) Then turn the radio power switch to on for a period of oh say 5-10 minutes, turn the power switch off, then put your
batteries back into to it; then power the radio back up and just see what happens from that time onward! If it powers
normally without power cycling back on and off continually, the battle is nearly over! If when you plug the external
power cord and turn the radio back on and it starts that power cycling all over again, this means that perhaps you have
a problem residing with either the built in power switch integral with the external cord socket that switches the dc power
over to ac power on just for instance. Yes, you heard that right! The corded end plug that goes into that socket of the
radio, has a built in integral switch that switches your ac supplied cord over to the DC current battery mode. NOW, if
it had been that you didn't have that corded plug end deeply seated into it's socket on the radio for instance, this may
have contributed to that problem of it power cycling/boot looping like a red headed step child....(maybe)!
At first thought, it could have been perhaps the radio having a bad power connection internally, or just a power problem
altogether, such as the power supply itself. At least in the use of a computer, if you have the kind of problem in which your
pc that does a continual boot loop situation, it could be blamed on a bad power supply and should become first suspect
OR a bad power switch. So for either scenario, you should ALWAYS look/test for bad switches first and foremost, bad
power connections, bad power source OR the power supply that may be faulty. These are by far the usual case/causes.
YET, should this not be the problem, well then you would have to take a closer look at the internals for other things that
could become most evident, such as: at the battery pack regions inside; Are there bad looking or poor looking soldering connections that could be to blame. Are there wires that are soldered to these tabs of the battery pack that are only
hanging on by just a couple strands and are needed to be redone to make things good as should be? Before you commit
to tearing into the internals, once again, disconnect your main source of external power and extract the batteries of all
kinds! 4.) Next inline would be is: On the main power switch, can you carry out some simple multimeter tasks or testing to
make sure that the switch contacts are making and breaking with the very least amount of resistance internally as in zero
ohms or at least very close to zero as in about .1 - .2 ohms of resistance.
So what if: you were to find a problem internally, while also having the radio apart??? Well, the second thing that you
absolutely do is to replace that grungy ridiculous speaker with a finer, more better one that is no taller than the original,
with the same shape and diameter as the original yet has the same ohms of impedance, may it be 8, 6, or 4 ohms with the
same ohms of impedance with a said 10 Watts of power rating and has a bigger around sized magnet for a meager 15
bucks or less and big rid of that nasty sounding audio while you are at it! Just by perusing these steps that I have given
you, you might have things wrapped up nice and tidy with that repair job and the installation of a new speaker from your
favorite Amazon Store with about a whole hour of labor invested in total, plus a valuable learning experience that may very
well afford you a path forward to making other repairs in the future!
These are quite easy checks even if you might be even a little not repair suave but is a very good start and is NOT hard to
do! You would be surprised at how some people just allow themselves to be easily stumped and/or end up embarrassing themselves by not checking their units out as a matter of at least being a little bit curious as to what is going on with a
simple multimeter and at least some a little bit of hands on training via yt. You would be surprised! As for most people,
they just don't want to deal with things because they manage to stress themselves out rather than try and take the plunge
so as to calmly and instinctively challenge themselves and address the situation or problem at hand.

    • @MattCoversTech
      @MattCoversTech  2 месяца назад +2

You're tempting me to start another project, lol! I still have to get my back up generator hooked into my electrical panel. Just fixed my washing machine on Monday (Controller board issue with corrosion from steam on the solder points of all things! Cleaned it, sealed it, good to go). Thinking back, I think the radio did it both only running on batteries, as well as when plugged in, but maybe I'll test that out again. If that's the case, my first guess would be a bad connection from the batteries that gives out intermittently, causing the radio to think it needs to switch power supplies when it doesn't. It's fun to tinker with stuff for sure, but Radioddity's QC on this was poor, that much is certain. What really bothers me is the external antenna jack killing all signal. That to me says possible lack of filtering, but it could be something else.

    • @craigtegeler4677
      @craigtegeler4677 2 месяца назад +1

@@MattCoversTech Yep! I think that their QC just has to be lousy as for one aspect, but then the other
types of issues that I later read after the fact of me dropping a comment on, kind of says more of what
is really sums up those lesser experiences of what others so mentioned. That Raddy of yours does
have some looks about it but if it is plagued with other things like RF filtering on the front end, coupled
with a remote possibility of signal being easily overloaded with the use of an external antenna, also just
having horrible sound quality; well that's just not a good setup and a marginal at best, if not poor product
to contend with! I try not to think this way about some of these imported items but dammit, if these things
are happening, this can only stain a company's image. Perhaps they will make some changes in the design
of this radio for if the don't, it will surely be on them if they loose out in the sales and marketing of this
particular product. Sometimes Amazon pays attention to product complaints in some regards but not
always as i am sure because I've had my share of complaints three times over thus far and over a two
year period. The one thing that I also see on Amazon nearly daily, is all of these incorrect representations
of a product, may it be product size, misspellings, price gauging from these third party entities that are
listing often times by vast amounts you name it; it is right there front and center. You cannot help but see
it in plain sight and it seems like the people whom are either listing it does not follow up to make the
necessary corrections before setting everything to stone!

This radio is no longer available, looks like this radio (the Greadio R12) was perhaps another Chinesium flash in the pan production, fortunately it's features are not at all special. The Raddy RF320 may be a better alternative (also sold under other brand names as many Chinese products are). Longevity of Swiss Army knife Chinese radios (emergency radios that are also battery banks) are not known for their durability or reliability and many sacrifices are made as superfluous "features" are added at a low price point. A novelty item, but people who are serious about any particular feature of this device will want to look elsewhere.

Do you have any recommendations?

There are two brands that come to mind when I think of quality shortwave and AM/FM radios. Those two brands are Sangean and Eton. Taking into account everything else you want it to do, I would probably recommend this by Eton amzn.to/3A2cBOo . You’re not likely to find more than an IP 3 rating due to the crank etc.
As for scanners, my experience and that of friends who are first responders is to recommend a Uniden Bearcat handheld model. There are a few options so make sure you get one that will work with the services in your area. They are not cheap! Many police and fire have switched to digital encrypted systems, so you most likely won’t be able to hear them.
