      You will need a Tiny SA and a power meter, or a friend who has one. Check with your local ham radio club, someone usually has one and is willing to help out. I've also added affiliate links to both items in the video description. They're good tools to have.

    • @MattCoversTech
      @MattCoversTech 7 дней назад

      Not necessarily, but anything beyond 5 watts really isn't going to help much with range (you'll get half an S unit at 8 or 10 watts which is nothing), but will DEFINITELY, without a doubt, you can bet on it, drain your battery faster. I have a couple 8 and 10 watt radios. I run them all at the Mid setting for 5 watts. You're better off investing in good antennas like the Nagoya 771 or the mighty Signal Stick from Signalstuff.com.

    • @MattCoversTech
      @MattCoversTech 7 дней назад

      I ended up using the antenna I have linked in the description, the Nagoya NA-320A due to the fact that it is a triband antenna. Normally I use a BNC Signal Stick from signalstuff.com but they don't have a triband model because it requires coiling they don't have the machining to make. The owner there says he uses the NA-320A for triband, so that was good enough for me.

      @@raphaelvongelmini8112 Ciao! Buongirono! Dove abiti en Italia? Studiato Italiano per due anni en liceo. Mi piace ma no consoco bene. PMR446 (the service for the Motorola you mentioned) and CB are on two vastly different bands. CB is 11M (in the U.S.), the various radios in this video can only transmit and receive on 2M and 70cm bands. A Baofeng UV-5R or UV-9R Pro can both be programmed to work on PMR446 which is just above the 70cm band. In order to get on CB (at least in the US) you'd be looking for a radio that is only CB. In the U.S. CB is limited to only 4 watts of power, which is less than what these handheld radios put out. I'm not familiar with the regulations in Italy or the EU in general, or what frequencies the emergency services use, limitations on transmit power etc. It varies from country to country. So keep safe and out of trouble with whatever you decide to do, but always have fun and learn something new!

    I had a Chinese windup and solar amfm radio when i was a kid and it was honestly great, but the battery let it down. Used to sit there winding slowly just to listen to it, haha. I feel the reviews for this one are hit and miss; it would be wonderful to get a good one, but I'd honestly rather pay 3-4x as much and get an ip67+, metal housed version from s reputable manufacturer with probably far better electronics, even if likely fewer features. Do you have any recommendations? I am in the market for a CB for my 4wd but also wanted to get a handheld scanner or the like, that can receive many more, so open to suggestions there too, if you have any!

    • @MattCoversTech
      @MattCoversTech 8 дней назад

      There are two brands that come to mind when I think of quality shortwave and AM/FM radios. Those two brands are Sangean and Eton. Taking into account everything else you want it to do, I would probably recommend this by Eton amzn.to/3A2cBOo . You’re not likely to find more than an IP 3 rating due to the crank etc. As for scanners, my experience and that of friends who are first responders is to recommend a Uniden Bearcat handheld model. There are a few options so make sure you get one that will work with the services in your area. They are not cheap! Many police and fire have switched to digital encrypted systems, so you most likely won’t be able to hear them.

    • @MattCoversTech
      @MattCoversTech 12 дней назад

      Yes to both, but it seems Chirp is currently limited in how you can program zones, and it does not recognize Mid power on any of the channels. I created a profile in Chirp adding channels, uploaded it to the radio. Opened the radio in the supplied CPS (which is actually pretty good) applied mid power to the channels I wanted, moved channels to zones, then saved in the BTECH CPS. When Chirp is updated, I should be able to download from the radio, then modify it in Chirp 100%.
