The straw arming cap is very interesting. I had assumed there was some sort of padding in Greek helmets before, but I never really pondered what it was made from. I mostly know about medieval armor.

I used to be a construction worker. The way hard hats are built always interested me. They're made to hold the shell off the head, so its not actually touching. I always wondered if that type of system would have worked for midevil helmets.

Hello, I am creating a helmet in the Corinthian style. And I wonder how they were kept safely for moving in a fight. They should have had a kind of chin strap. I did not see any yet on antic representations. The corinthian helmet worn by the Athena shows these 2 loops left and right. Looking like a folded chin strap. You now explain in this video that Athena wears a Scythian hat/cap. I looked online for Scythian hats. And I checked for Phrygian caps. I thought that Athena may rather wear a Phrygian cap instead of a Scythian. Scythians were considered bararbarians. Why would Athena be using a headgear of barbarians? If you have more information about the hat worn by Athena with or without helmets.. please give a hint.
I plan for a trial to create a hat with such chin straps which will fold and be rolled in the way it is shown on the 2 sides of Athena's helmet. I also continue to search for hints to the hat worn under helmets by other helmet users on original ancient Greek art.

Hi! We actually have no evidence of chin straps on them. As per scythian hats being for barbarians, i have actually never heard of this, and it is quite commonly depicted in vase art and on statues. I suppose it is hard to tell on the athena one, as it is covered

@@LeonidasSparta-Fun-History Hello, Many thanks for your reply. I continue to search information about the way the users of Corinthian helmets secured this item especially in combat. Up to now I rather feel disturbed by this item which distracts my attention while the helmet is worn. Of course to show off with it when worn as a hat in the backward inclined position the stylish fashion headgear fullfills well its function. Another thing which I felt during my first trials was claustrophobia. Imagining how a blunt blow on the nose guard would easy get the head stuck into this bowl. I will create a phrygian style of skull cap with the 2 straps left and right where the temporal bones are and an extension covering the neck and making the rear edge of the helmet more comfortable. I will check how rain water flows. Can hardly imagine that anybody would have let water just run down straight into his colar of his body armor. The extension covering the neck in the back is shown on some ancient coins with Corinthian helmet wearing portraits. I added the link to such a helmet accessory shown here:
