- Mercedes Internet in the Car allows your car to broadcast Wi-Fi and turn your car into a mobile hotspot for your passengers!
It's activated and full plan details are available on the Mercedes-Benz website which will then take you to the Vodafone Internet in the Car portal.
In the UK, Mercedes Internet in the Car is not required to use Mercedes me services. This service is only for broadcasting Internet to your devices and on some selected Mercedes models (NTG 7) also allows you to browse the web on the multimedia system too.

Nice but the data cost is way more expensive than a regular phone plan with the same operator. No sense to me since I have unlimited data.
How does that work? I have 50 gigs of hotspot data on my cell phone plan which is extremely fast. Can I use that for the car or can I use the normal internet connection for the car instead of buying their plan?

Unfortunately, this isn't available in Australia. Which is both perplexing and disappointing.
Great video Nick. I signed up forbthe trial some months ago and being in Canada, yes you guessed it, the mpnthly plan for 1gb data is horrendously priced. Your looking at 25 quid a month. Such a shame really that my unlimited cell plan cannot be used as the hotspot instead of using a data plan wirh MB and T-Mobile. Oh well.

The speed is naturally capped at 4G speed though, right? Just picked up a brand new EQB the other day, and I was a bit surprised it's still 4G and not 5G by now. Not a big issue for me personally, but a bit odd at the very end of 2022, I thought.
Great walkthrough, thank you. Does weather and navigation (live traffic) require a Mercedes data plan? When I was driving once, an update to the map was downloading and installing while driving but I don't recall signing up to a data plan for the car. WIFI was turned on in the car's system settings but I am confused where the car was getting the internet signal from to download the map and get live traffic while driving. Perhaps the connection was coming from my phone's data plan because it was connected to Android Auto/Apple car play? Is that possible?
Limited Internet connectivity is in the car such as weather, basic navigation and mercedes voice assistant "hey mercedes" it's included in the yearly package on the Mercedes Me app.
To browse the Internet like on your phone aka access the browser, then you got pay for this Vodafone monthly bogus.

This Internet in the Car for a Wi-Fi hotspot is chargeable in this way, the other things like Navigation Package or Remote Package have a separate connection which is included in that package’s price so you don’t need this Internet in the car subscription to use the other services
Hi Nick, following your video on the dash cam, I subsequently bought and downloaded it successfully, however, does this mean I can not use Android Auto at the same time as they appear to require the same USB port? If so I think this should be made clear as it then conflicts with your recommendation to Google Maps rather than pay for Mercedes ongoing updates.

If you’re using something that isn’t the car’s multimedia operating system like Android Auto then no that wouldn’t work. As with all cars Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are their own apps and suspend the car’s operating system so you’re basically using your phone instead.
I recommend using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto if you don’t want to use the car’s own as it’s an alternative.

Just a quick question mate I have purchased the music streaming digital extra for my eqc the on line intune radio appear as does Amazon and tidal but not Spotify which is what I bought it for and I linked the account in the Mercedes me app but nothing says about no internet access .
Have tried to use phone as hotspot but that don’t work also tried to see the option you showed in this video for data but can’t see that on my log in?

I haven’t actually covered this yet but I am hoping to soon at my local dealer. Maybe another tutorial video when I’ve got some time to swing by!
As far as I’m aware, MBUX NTG 6 will only do Tidal and Amazon. MBUX NTG 7 will do a couple more such as Apple Music and Spotify. NTG 6 and NTG 7 are generations of multimedia system so are not software updates they are new hardware etc.
So I believe that it wouldn’t be compatible as of yet for an EQC, but I’d suggest contacting Mercedes directly so they can check it out for you!

Nick, I wanna ask you something please I recently moved to a place where sanctions are applied here and my Mercedes me functions expired. i want to renew the Mercedes me functions such as car location, door lock, tire pressure, and so on but it keeps saying I can't do that because the car in a different place and my Mercedes me store not opening. it shows I can't buy or renew because of my region.... is there anything online I can do to get them working again? thanks a lot for the videos you helped me understand my Mercedes better after being 20 years BMW driver. thanks

I haven’t tried renewing in a different country before but if it’s linked to your account, I presume you can still buy things. Just bare in mind that Mercedes me services won’t work in all countries, it should work in most of Europe though.
Will it pick up a 5G signal if I am using my phone for a hot spot..?
like you said, if you already have 4/5g data on your phone, just share your hotspot, instead of paying for another abbonement..
Hi, have you checked equally the comfort data volume which is included in the entertainment package? It allows equally to use the wifi hotspot but with more data available =)

That is a very good question! Hadn’t thought of that before, I would presume that it would just use whatever data connection you’d have as the default on your phone. Or the one that can utilise “Personal Hotspot”.
In the car you can choose “Acquired Data Connection” for the one with Vodafone paying monthly or use your phone.
However this is only for MBUX NTG 7 (portrait screen) not landscape screen.

Hey brother I have a 2018 amg gle 43 coupe and just payed for the hotspot data, it’s been almost 4 days and the hotspot connects but imternet not available as if I never payed it? Any suggestions
Hey VinceTheCat, ah very nice! It’s probably best to chat to Mercedes regarding that. I’ve used a couple of times and filmed this video at my local Mercedes with then so I know how to set it up. But if you have any issues might be best to contact them they’ll be able to check the payment plan etc and hopefully check the connectivity. Mercedes me support is on the app

Do you have to have the ignition on for this to work, I have a sprinter van and want to install cctv for when it’s parked and locked up
Yes, the multimedia system has to be on for it to work so the ignition / engine will need to be on
Maybe it’s a newbie question, but will the system that detects if someone hits your car in a parking (and send you a notification and picture) still work if you keep the data only on your phone? In other words, the car will not have data in that moment because your phone will be outside of the car. How would it work then? Thanks!
Hey Francesco, I’ve heard of this but sadly not seen it in the UK.
In the UK most new modern Mercedes can detect where it happened on the car and provide some crucial info like the time and date but sadly no photos.
That would be quite good to see though in the future!

I have to check how it is in my country (Luxembourg), I suppose that there are GDPR-related concerns… With that said, will the car still be able to send the notification on date and time also without a SIM card?
Ah I wouldn’t know the exact specs but in most countries, Mercedes have Mercedes me which is how it connects for that sort of info.

Yes this does work in Europe as well, basically anywhere Mercedes me services work which are quite a few countries!
Hi, I just received a new EQS with Hyperscreen. The menu is the same as shown in the video. I have WiFi Hotspot issues. Connected to mobile or any other device from Mbux shows "no internet", but still gets connected to the wifi. Dataplan is bought and working on the main screen in the car thru 4G. Please advice what to do...
Hey Farrukh, it depends on your mobile plan and phone if you’re going to use your phone’s internet. Not all support Internet Tethering so you might need to check with your network provider.

When connecting any External device to the car wifi hotspot results in successfully connection to the WiFi, but "no internet". Not able to figure out why the internet is working in the car, but not with external devices thru wifi.
Hmmm strange, I’d probably suggest contacting your local Mercedes dealership and someone will be able to take a look 🤓
It’s just a Wi-Fi network so it should just work. Thinking outside of the box, make sure that you’re not using a VPN or iCloud Private Relay or anything that could interfere with it.
I just purchased an ex demonstrator (73 plate) CLA and when setting up the mbux it stated free internet in the car. When signing up for a Vodafone account, there was no mention of plans or data allowance and I didn't have to input my credit card details.
Is this service now free or am I going to get hit with a bill in the near future? I've been using the built in internet radio frequently.😬

It would be nice to connect the car to my mobile's mobile hotspot though to use the Internet Radio facility etc - my previous car (Volvo S90) did that with no problems. As you mentioned, I'm one of those with a Vodafone unlimited data package and don't need another. Although as I use Android Auto it's not a real issue.

Unfortunately that’s not an option you cannot connect Mercedes’ to another hotspot it has to be the Mercedes link only, believe me I have I tried. Also asked dealership and forums

Possibly! It depends on the multimedia system and where you’re based as the spec if different round the world.
Best thing to do is contact Mercedes and they can let you know what it has and its capabilities.
Of course remember this is a feature that most phones can do anyway, and it is chargeable where as your phone can quite often do it for free anyway 🤓
Today my Mercedes me App not updated as of 25/01/2023 14:28……. Does the internet need to top up to fix the data volume issue?

Nick! I just recently got my S580 and purchased a T-Mobile unlimited data plan for the vehicle. I can access the internet from the browser however when I go to connect a device to the hotspot it says “no internet available”. My computer and iPhone will not connect. Mercedes’ told me to call T-Mobile and t Mobile told me to call Mercedes’. Any ideas or help?

I would presume it would work the same way but it could be different.
It’s set up on a Vodafone portal and it did take 10 mins to activate when I connected to it to make the video

Most models no as the car is the internet provider, most models you wouldn’t be able to send internet to the car as there isn’t anything you can do with it. Some models can which is the multimedia system NTG 7 which allows this.

I live in Argentina, and I have tried to connect to the internet and it has not been possible. We do not have Vodafone as a telephone company. I made this query to Mercedes Benz Argentina and they never responded to me. Could you find out why it doesn't work in all countries? kind regards

Can you contract via a different carrier than the one to which MB sends you to by default?
No sadly not, for security and to prevent hacking this is locked to the Vodafone network and cannot be changed

There’s no way to change it, I’d imagine it’s locked to prevent hacking etc
It’s like an E-sim so you won’t be able to change it
The SIM is a Global iot SIM and not an usual SIM. This is locked to VDF as exclusive, but the partner has agreements where you lose VDF signal if other network is available it uses that network signal. This is not visible to the end-user. Also the car antenna is used for signal.

If it’s the same as my car MBUX NTG 7 (or higher I’m guessing this should work with).
You can head over to SETTINGS, SYSTEM, WI-FI & INTERNET (or something similar and hotspot it from there)

How slow is the internet in the UK.? I get 700 Mbps in my house with my phone alone through T mobile. I get 1000 Mbps through Wi-Fi hotspot.
I get up to 900 Mbps up & down at home and out and about, it could be anything from 50 Mbps up to 300 Mbps if I’m within reach of strong 5G within a city 🤓
I don't have "Manage services". I have "Manage digital extras", but there's nothing in there about internet hotspot. Though I did see something in the car when I was going through the menus - I'll need to go look at that tomorrow.
Car is 2020 GLB with MBUX 6(? wavy lines, not sparkles).
Mercedes I believe have changed the internet hotspot to entertainment package that I posted recently 🤓
They’ve also changed the name Manage Services to Digital Extras too 👍🏼

In most cars, they are a hotspot. There is nothing to do on most cars even if you could send internet to them. They only send internet out and most phones can do it anyway.

All other models no, as you can’t do anything on the screen even if you could send internet to it

Spoke to support and there is a technical issue ongoing. But they are giving out free data at the moment.

Sadly there isn’t anything to do even if you could. There is a browser on some of them but most cars aren’t powerful with their processors for it to be that fast.

I’ve heard some countries don’t have Mercedes me at all and it varies so much round the world.
To be honest most models of Mercedes only allow Wi-Fi hotspotting anyway and you have to pay extra for it in the first place.
@@npoleary True. The disappointing part is the voice assistant is limited to default voice commands without an internet connection.

Mercedes is DUMB for this one. I just want to update my car software. It needs internet. SO THE CAR should be able to connect to MY PHONE's HOTSPOT to do this. Not the other around!

I'd prefer if I could connect my phones unlimited sim hotspot to the car instead to use the Internet browser on Mercedes MBUX itself. But that's not possible. So this is useless.
