I am 68 years young and I ran in a 5k event last weekend. I ran in the Saucony Endorphin Pros with the carbon plate. There was 93 runners and I placed 9th overall and 1st in my age group (60-69). What surprised me most, I won the Master Division, 40 years and older. The morale of the story is both consistent training and running shoes do make the difference. I started to run again 6 years ago in Walmart running shoes, "Athletech". However, as time when on I became educated with Seth's youtube reviews of running shoes, stack heights, weight, etc. As a result, I decided to buy a pair of Saucony Endorphin Pros based on Seth's review. Wow, when I laced up my new shoes and took a couple of steps I felt the energy and bounce. Omg, I found a running shoe that was lightweight and wicked fast. For me, the Saucony Endorphin Pros, "outruns" my pace. I have to pull on the "reigns" or get in better shape. Anyway, thanks again for your running shoe reviews, keep them coming. "Other than consistent training, running shoes do make a difference!"
@@runningmama4793 Thanks, I even did this run with two severed tendons on right rotator cuff. It requires surgery. Tore my rotator cuff running on a trail run on ice and snow. When crossing a street to get to the other side of the trail, slipped on "black ice" and fell on my right shoulder. I wish I was 5' 2" when I fell , however, I am 6'4". I shook my self off and continued to run thinking just a bruised shoulder. MRI came back and doctor stated good job Mike, severed two of the four tendons in your rotator cuff. Surgery is in Mid July after a few more runs that I registered for. Doctor told me, I cannot do any more damage to my rotator cuff. Oh well, at my age, common sense is thrown out the window, I live for today, and hopefully I see tomorrow!
@@miketenneson5518 Wow! That is quite the saga!!! Hope your other runs go really well and that the surgery is successful! That last line really made me laugh. You be careful out there!
QD: Raced my first half marathon today in Tewkesbury. Aimed for 1:30 but I thought this might have been optimistic as my 10K PB is only 41 minutes. Followed the 1:30 pacer the whole way but felt great with 4 miles left, ditched the 1:30 pacer and managed 1:26:54 😁 Never had so much fun in my life, it was such a nice atmosphere with everyone cheering the runners on. Can’t wait to do it again 😎
Sometimes I feel like companies are just throwing plates in shoes and hoping it is the secret sauce. I think it is much more than that. Some companies have it right with the foam and plate complementing one another with purpose, and some just don't have it together yet.
They just want sell stuff, that's why they make pronation control shoes knowing full well that doesnt work. It gives consumers a perception of choice and fills gaps in the market that are open to competitors
Yeagh absolutely.Because carbon fiber plates are a popular topic and many companies want to try to tap into that market which could bring them alots of more sales.Thankfully as a running community we can learn off each other and for the main part know which ones are good and which ones were more advertising hype.
QD: Raced the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 miler in Virginia, and finished in 22:06, good for P5. I finished a little after 2 AM this morning, and am currently recovering in my hotel room. My A goal was to break 24, and my stretch goal was to break 22. Didn't quite get the latter, but after being forced to drop at mile 38 of this race in 2019, I am absolutely ecstatic regardless (and VERY sore).
At 55 I ran my first half marathon @ 2:05:43 wasn't ready for the 300 plus elevation climb and the rest of the hills. But managed to finish 16. Missed my goal of under 2 hrs but I am happy with my time on a challenging course.
Hey Seth! This review is a quintessential example of your honesty! This is why I keep coming back! Thank you for this one! BTW - I finally pulled the trigger and just purchased the Novablast 2! I can't wait to wear them out on my next training block! Keep pushing!
QD: I raced the Colfax Marathon in Denver this morning! It was my first marathon. My A goal was to finish in under 5 hours and my B goal was to cross the finish line. My official chip time is 5:17:14. I set a half marathon PR of 2:23:30. I am so happy!! Thank you for all the support and community DGR! Onward and Upward!
QD raced my first half marathon today SMH Sydney Half Marathon. Difficult undulating course for a first go. But I was relatively strong to the finish. Finished in 2:17. Thankfully the full marathon I'm running on the Gold Coast in July is basically the flattest course you'll find. Just out and back following the beaches. So pumped to take on the next challenge.
Ran Colfax today didn’t use the brooks e3 but will break them for boulder boulder. Used the meta speed sky for Colorado marathon, But the Nike has some spring but sounds like running in soccer cleats. Man I was hoping Seth would be at Colfax it’s right up the road. Share your secret sauce on where you favor to run. Keep up the great work Seth. I sincerely enjoy your posts. Thanks.
Popped out my first sub-18 min 5k this weekend! That was the A goal. The plan was to latch on to the leaders as long as possible. That lasted about a mile before they took off!
Fast-forward to May of '24, and these are on clearance at Running Warehouse for $120... a great value within the daily trainer price range and much more justifiable. These are now among the best daily trainers money can buy, IMO. I just snagged a pair and so far like them more than the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2 that I bought last year. I'm not a racer but can appreciate the extra quality, cushioning, and bounce of these premium shoes after waiting for them to drop in price.
Hey Seth, thank you for all your honest reviews! I’m in Ohio for work all week, been hitting up some amazing beautiful trails and decided to stay a few extra days and run in the Full Cleveland Marathon on Sunday the 22nd. Hopefully everything goes well because I’m coming off the Full Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon less then a month ago, but I’m still have fun either way! Thank you for all the content, it’s helps me and all of us our more then you know Sir!
I raced the Salzburg Marathon in my Austrian hometown today, I did a 10 week training plan to break the 3h mark for the first time bit due to high temperatures from the beginning (9am, 20°C) I knew that it will be impossible. I stayed with the sub 3h pacemaker and a nice pack until KM 21 (first loop) and then my body shot down, I reevaluated my situation and tried to break my former PB of 3:14:52, running around 4'50min per km. B goal accomplished. 3:12:15. Now it is time for the trail and ultra season. Next marathon sub 3h try in October. HREERI GS FROM SALZBURG/AUSTRIA!!!
Great analysis. Super thorough as always. And by the looks of it, yes it looks like an old shoe, not as exciting as the other carbon plate shoes from other brands
I used to love brooks but in the last few months they have been pissing me off! I used to love the adrenaline series and then the 22’s came out. They are always either putting crazy pressure on the side of your foot making it almost impossible to run in, or they are way too loose. They also used to reduce the price of the previous model once the new one came out but now they just keep it the same or increase the price of the new one. I still do love the Hyperion Tempos.
I raced twice this weekend. Colfax 5k, set a PR 24:08:40, 7th in division, 46th in gender, and 72nd overall, yesterday! First ever 5k. And then raced the Colfax Marathon today and set a PR today as well, 4:16:52 69th in division, 298 in gender, 397 overall. 2nd attempt at the Colfax marathon, last years effort was a 5:27:40. A 1:10:48 improvement. My polar predicted a 4:19:00 finish. So yeah!
I was signed up for the Grandma's Marathon in June but decided it wasn't financially feasible to go while also in the process of looking at houses to get out of the renting scene while I finish up my PhD. Definitely was a hard decision for me to make but that's a product of growing up.
QD: Raced half marathon. Best case scenario was to set a PR at 1:27 and realistic was to finish within 1:28-1:30. My finish time was 1:28:29 - not the best one but quite good considering my fitness level and weather.
Completely agree with everything Seth said on these shoes. I got to test these while they were still in development. My biggest complaint was the weight. Just too much for a super shoe. I will say they do hold up far better than any other super shoe I've had. I believe I have over 300 miles on mine and the outer sole is just beginning to wear.
This shoe suits into the category of Endorphin Speed2, so it's very expensive. I am waiting for the Hyperion Tempo v.2 to replace my never dying Hyperion Tempo v.1. Thanks Seth!
QD: raced a 10miler today in very high temperatures in Belgium today (27/28°). Finished 8th (out of 40) with 1.05.40. Didn't make my A goad (1.02), nor my B goal (1.04), but bypassed my running buddy with 3minutes. That gave me enough good feeling of the race ;-). Ran a 3.000 on the track for seniors (20-35Y) last weekend. As my club had no seniors available I ran instead. Being 39Y it was heavy, although funny to see these guys shooting away at start. I ran in the desert for 10.19 and finished second to last. Epic! I'll do it again, immediately! Shoes: endorphin speed 2 for the 10miler, Adidas Adizero LD spike for the 3k.
QD: raced 8km XC this Weekend and smashed my time from 8 months ago at the same course by nearly 2:30 min🥳 27:19,3 min PB Since I am training like a pro the is a huge step forward 🚀 can't wait to get faster and faster 🤭
I did not think that a plated shoe made too much difference, but after returning to non plated shoes for a training block, I can definitely say that I miss that responsive pop.
No races recently.Becsuse summer is hot and humid here I see many shorter 5k races.I will race a 5k for 4th of July which is a popular ongoing tradition.Very fun morning to get out on the Fourth of July to do a 5k
The Hyperion Tempo seems better. The plate is a good idea for soft foams but not necessary with the DNA flash which is a hard foam. Hyperion Tempo is light and Bouncy and a better option.
I used to like Brooks, but other companies started surpassing them significantly about 10 years ago. I guess their strong suit is durability, but dollar-fer-dollar I wouldn't be buying anything they make right now, mainly due to weight and feel. I tried on Hyperion Elite in a store not long ago, and they were ill-fitting and the midsole was hard as a rock; no reason to have it so thick if it's going to have the durometer of a 2x4 (the durometer gauge results aren't very transferable to underfoot durometer feel).
I just finished reading KICKSOLOGY by Brian Metzler. If you have not read or heard of it I highly recommend that you try to. Running shoes and the business will become clearer than you ever imagined. My copy is yours, if you wish. Something to read on those long flights.
Brooks has always fallen into a “durable, not flashy” category for me across the board. Their shoes are reliable and have lasted longer than any other brand in my experience, but the performance is pretty average. They’re the perfect brand for folks that only want one pair of shoes to last for a running season. Saucony and Asics are close in durability and have the high performance options to match, which is why more and more of my rotation has shifted to those brands.
I’m 50 miles into mine and outsole is falling off, these are horrible shoes. Not even worth $100. Let Des complain about Nike….her complain should be that Brooks can’t build a good super shoe

Thx for the review. What's the name of the white jacket you were wearing?
Brooks hasn't got it right yet, and at this point, I don't think they will.
Sorry Brooks, no one’s paying $250 for this
Yes, what is the reason to make them heavy? The previous version isn't heavy

With this price, it is better to get metaspeed and nike carbon shoes right?
Is that jacket available anywhere in that colorway?
The shoes names are getting out of hand. I second the motion to rename the NB RC Elite v2 to "Purple monster"

Someone should cut out the carbon plate out of their used and abused Vaporfly/Alphafly, glue it back together and test how much difference it makes.
not for me - I'd look at waiting for the Endorphin Speed 3 & Pro 3 .. or maybe look at the MetaSpeed Sky+ or Edge+ coming in a month or so
Exactly 👍🏻
Bruh I thought this was for the new Solomon pulsar plate shoe lol
From the title thought this was the pulsar carbon...
This shoe does not come in size 14 so it gets a fail for me
First!! DGR strong!
Am I the only one that thinks this shoe and the Craft CTM Ultra look awful similar?
Now that you mention it yes they do. Hmm…
Highly scientific I know, but I just don’t like the look of it when compared with its competitors. Bland, boring making it an instant no from me.
For sure, if you’re paying a lot of money it should look good too!
Brooks has not been doin good. Even in trainers I’d rather run in mizuno
Doesn't look like a super shoe, the colour, material are all wrong
Why would anyone buy this garbage. Unless its selling for half its carbon racer competition, never even touch this shoe.
