Same here in Norway. Windfarms are placed in virtually untouched nature close to the coast line where the huge Sea Eagle lives. The Sea Eagle is a protected species, but this is not given much consideration, up goes the windmill not matter what. This industrilaization of prestine nature is unheard of. Also if you drive off road in Norway you will be fined around $1500USD even if its on snow and the track vanishes then the snow melts. The windmills are an utter disgraze, and they are not needed in Norway at all.
The Sami's, the indigenous people of Norway have protested, but so far to no avail. No treaty signed by Norway can come in the way of NetZero. I hate to see our beautiful nature ruined by wind-factories. Local politicians only see money running in to the local governments coffers, and care little about the devastaion of wildlife, nature, and the well being of the people living nearby the huge installations.

And the agreed rent it the same as the amount of money the field could produce in the best of years.
Plus obviously the farmers spend zero on production costs.
The same applies to a wind turbine, except the field is only out of production for the year of construction.
Once construction is finished the farmers only get paid for the few meters of land they cannot use around the bace of the tower, same as the grid towers.

Simon: Here in southern Alberta, we get the Katabatic winds of the Rocky Mountains. There are THOUSANDS of wind generators across this beautiful ranching, grain growing & oil & gas wells.
Eyesores at best. Same crap....20 years ,give or take, of usable service & then the generators must come down. Apparently, there are frequent oil changes needed for the bearings & gear boxes on these things, & the oil is dreadfully expensive. It is a special type of oil, & no other type (less expensive) will do. There are also mechanical & blade inspections at intervals, & on it goes. People near a generator "farm" site, complain of hearing problems, headaches & God knows what else. I know that there are bird strikes, but I expect that the carrion is picked up daily & dispensed with before anyone is aware of the number that are killed. We also have solar "farms" that are huge in area, & built on excellent farm soil. I won't go on about the panels & all the problems with them & their maintenance etc. Nuclear plants are the obvious choice, & today, we have control of these plants that run 24 hours a day forever, less interval inspections , & rebuilding on occasion . Honest to God, I can't imagine WHO is responsible
for all this crap. I am not a conspiracy nut by any means, but it is difficult not to believe that there is
a group somewhere that is controlling western countries ( Hey! Australia is an English speaking nation so you are Westerners) All of the "fruitcake" schemes that governments come up with, that have not been subjected to review by experts in the proposed fields, should not be allowed to go ahead. Here in Alberta & British Columbia, with the Rocky mountains, there are a number of people who die in avalanches,. skiing There is a federal agency (avalanche Canada I think) that has clips on the internet, broadcast radio, TV , & other outlets , that will advise skiers, snowmobilers, hikers ,etc. to avoid certain areas, because of avalanche dangers there. Highways through the mountains are posted ,
have illuminated signs that flash warnings & supply alternate routing. Many people just ignore any cautions. If I am planning on driving on one of the "flagged" routes, I change my routing or I don't go.
You see, I believe that the experts at avalanche Canada, know more than I do about avalanches. It is a terrible lowering of mental barriers I know, but I am still here, & many who disregarded the experts are dead. Always love your site Simon, & your sometimes acerbic commentary.
Cheers! Brian Hind , from the wind swept Prairies of Alberta Canada

Yes, and the life span of these turbines is 15 years - not 20. Also, they need to run at optimum (peak) capacity for 14 years before they are even EQUAL to the CO2 production of the equivalent energy produced by a black coal turbine generator. (source NSW dept. Evironment). I do not need to say that these things rarely, if ever operate at peak... The other nasty secret is that they produce more CO2 in their lifecycle than a coal fired powerstation for the same energy production.

@@alexnutcasio936 Yes, renewable energy components like solar panels and wind turbines can be recycled, though the processes mayyy efficiency vary.
      **Solar Panels:**
      - **Materials**: Solar panels primarily consist of glass, aluminum, silicon, and various metals like silver and copper.
      - **Recycling Process**: The process typically involves disassembling the panels to recover these materials. Glass and aluminum are highly recyclable, while silicon wafers can be purified and reused in new panels. Precious metals like silver and copper are also recoverable.
      **Wind Turbines:**
      - **Materials**: Wind turbines are composed of steel, copper, aluminum, and composite materials for the blades.
      - **Recycling Process**: Steel and copper are straightforward to recycle. Aluminum parts can also be recycled. The blades, made from composite materials like fiberglass or carbon fiber, are more challenging to recycle. Efforts are underway to develop methods for repurposing or recycling these composite materials.
      - **Challenges**: The recycling of turbine blades is particularly problematic due to their size and material composition. Innovative solutions, such as grinding the blades for use in cement production or repurposing them for other uses, are being explored .
Overall, while there are established methods for recycling many components of solar panels and wind turbines, further advancements and innovations are necessary to improve the efficiency and viability of recycling these renewable energy technologies.

The average wind turbine here in Sweden contains about 600 liters of oil (really big ones about 3000 liters.....) And yes, it has to be changed at a regular basis. These monsters also collapse a little now and then, splashing it all on the ground!
Then they complain if my car has a small oil leak 😞

  • @richardwhalen732
    @richardwhalen732 16 дней назад +3

Each of these proposed turbines will require up to (and possibly exceeding) 60 gallons of specially formulated lubricant. This oil will still have to be pulled from the earth and refined, a process that will generate carbon emissions. Each of these turbines will then be required to undergo periodic inspections and maintenance and (you guessed it) oil changes. There is disagreement on how long the oil lubricating the device will remain effective but it won't be forever. There are some gear-driven turbines that suggest an oil change after the first 500 hours of operation.
Question for the zealots: Who pays for the dismantling and disposal of these scars on the environment and the recovery of natural resources when it is finally resolved that wind and solar cannot meet the projected energy needs?

whats funny is when I brought up the fact wind turbines kill birds, all the people defending it just said 'well cats kill more!'
    because that makes it fine.

    • @planesounds

What also matters is which birds are being killed. The birds killed by wind turbines include raptors (including the Wedgetailed Eagle) and flocks of migratory birds. Cats mainly predate on ground and low level birds. At least in many areas there are plans to control cats. Both domestic and feral.

Already posted this: They are putting in 30 acres of solar panels next door to my mother-in-law's property, in an area that used to be pristine farm / pasture land.
Was thinking about putting in a B&B there sometime. Something to keep me busy and make some extra money during retirement... That idea's now shot. Nobody would want to stay there anymore.
How much compensation did my mother-in-law get? ZERO!
    Insane.

remember seeing something in the u.s - all the farmers ruing the day 20 years ago they thought would cash in with a wind turbine but are now left with a huge concrete block on their land and no income from the long gone windmill - and they were comparatively small back then too (the windmills, not the farmers).

I know people that work in the wind and solar industry the wind turbines if they don't explode or catch on fire generally on average about 5 years then they usually need major repairs and major maintenance. The solar panels usually start leaking toxic chemicals out of the panels after 2 to 4 years as the harshest conditions take massive effect on these panels then a lot of the panels can be damaged by debris from excessive wind panels also need to be washed off every month and none of the wind or solar factories are connected to the grid. And that is before any transmission lines and infrastructure is built or any studies have been done. Some engineers that design and construct this type of technology have only estimated the cost of everything between 1to 2 trillion dollars providing everything goes to plan. We the Australian tax payers will be footing the cost in electricity bills and our taxes.

It has been stated that it will cost $600,000 in today's money per turbine to dispose of them at end-of-life. I suspect that figure is underestimated, the turbines being installed here now are 280m to 250m metres high. It would obviously be expensive to transport them out of remote areas so the likely scenario is that they will be left in situ. It isn't clear who is responsible for their decommissioning, dismantling, disposal and land rehabilitation but it's likely that it will be the same people who paid for them in the first place, the taxpayers.
