Finely someone explained it I watched so many videos and no one explained anything just showed spinning but not say how to achieve this effect. Great videos

Thank you so much. Most fractal yarns are spun from hand painted top - I think I’m the first person to demonstrate spinning a fractal yarn from fibre placed on a hackle.
To spin a fractal yarn from hand painted top you would split the fibre vertically into the number of plies you want to spin. The first section you would spin it as it is, then if you were spinning a 3 ply, you would split the second section into two and spin those one after the other. Then split the 3rd section into 4 thin strips and spin those one after the other. When you ply them together you get a perfectly even mix of colour and pooling as the colours are distributed throughout the whole of the yarn.
      I hope that helps! 🥰

This video was a LOT of work for you!! You did such a nice job. Loved seeing the diz in use… I have never used one.

Ha, the video was quite a lot of work but sometimes I like to prove to myself that something can be done - especially if it saves me the cost of buying hand-painted tops... I doubt that I'll repeat it too often but it was fun to prove the concept.
Oh, I love dizzing off a hackle to make my own variegated tops. It just takes a little practice. The main thing to remember is that you are not pulling through the diz, you are just using it as a way of keeping the combed top a similar thickness.

Wow. You are so creative. I have spun a fractal before, but I can use your method to use up my solid dyed wool and make new colors with it. Thanks again. Blessings.

Thank you so much. This was why i originally thought up this technique in the first place. I love the look of fractal spun yarns but I just don't have the budget for hand-painted tops

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! what are you doing with the "rest-yarn" from the hackle? I am carding it...

Aah, I don’t have a drum carder so I save it up and either use it for needle felting or spin core-spun yarns with it.

@@KathrynCraftmehappy oh yes, for core spun! I will try that next time! I don't have a drum carder either, I do have hand carders!

Combing waste makes a great textured corespun yarn. I just fluff mine up into a cloud and corespin it around a chenille yarn.
