I’ve said it about older games and I’ll say it now, the view looking at first base here whenever they get the double play is the view they should always do for a play at first.
Why is this unironically way better? Ive always been a big pusher of removing strike zone overlays to encourage paying attention but the layout of things is just wonderful
Firstly, the commentators could have taken a shot at doing a straight play by play including calling balls and strikes. A little snappy dialogue would not be horrible. But I also want to say that I enjoy watching this broadcast much more than the modern one with all of the close-ups and that mines us for emotions that don't necessarily exist. This is a much cleaner way to watch a game. Much more baseball and much less personality.
thought the exact same thing about the commentary lol can’t expect too much from Smoltz as a commentator but come on Joe Davis, i was hoping for some young Vin Scully type stuff
The way the commentators spoke sounded different during that throwback. I think they made it mono instead of stereo. Their voices immediately sounded different the moment they changed back to color.
I loved this! I was laughing each time they showed the graphic for the balls and strikes and the person batting. It brought back so many memories. I liked the attention to detail with the screen and the vignetting of the corners. Too bad it wasn't true black and white but sepia toned. They broadcasted in mono, single speaker sounding mode. You can tell the voices sounded tinny and the moment they changed back to color you can hear the broadcast sound change too.
It'd be really cool if the NFL did a similar thing once and awhile. Though, being able to look at the top or bottom of the screen and see the score at all times is one of those things you don't appreciate until you look back at games before they did that.
You need to do another "TV baseball through the years" game like the Dodgers-Cubs game from way back when. It MUST include the on-screen commercial like Joe Buck did.
Up next..... Cover the Mets on a Saturday Night Game Of The Week. In honor of the 55th anniversary of their first World Series win, broadcast a full inning in 4×3 Standard Definition with White font lettering graphics ala 1969 NBC Sports!😂
With color, I would prefer the 1950's camera work to today's tunnel vision and endless useless graphics that clog up the screen. The old camera views were closer to what you would see if you were at the game. The centerfield camera shot is the most boring shot there is. it doesn't show what's happening on the field, with runners and fielders prior to the pitch. If you're at a game you enjoy it without staring over the pitcher's shoulder. You see the whole field. Bring back more of the field!
I won't argue that today's players aren't better than the old-timers were, but it would be interesting to see current players compete without helmets or body armor.
Cool look though this is way higher depth. Also there is not a single example of split screen from the 50s broadcasts to be found anywhere yet announcer blindly claims its authentic 😂
They came up with a way of doing a crude split-screen for 'Rocky King Detective' (and perhaps other shows) on DuMont in the 1950s by racking the lenses on two cameras only part way over, then superimposing them into one shot. There are definitely other examples of split screen in the 1950s, although I don't believe the soft dissolve between the two shots is quite accurate (though I'm willing to be proven wrong).
They destroyed the game with the DH, wildcards, clocks, and wokeness, so they have to pull these gimmicks. Just a reminder, in 1980 after 159 games the Phillies and Expos were tied and facing each other in a three-game series, and after 162 games the Astro and the Dodgers were tied, and the Orioles finished just behind the Yankees even though they won 100 games. We will never, ever experience a season like 1980 again because of the morons that run MLB.
You can always count on Fox for truly horrible coverage. They do a million diversions, which they must think are clever, and only reluctantly refer to the game on the field. The retro stunt is just one inanity in a long line of such in their broadcasts. It's like they really hate baseball, and are doing anything they can to keep from covering it. There's no tension, no anticipation, nothing that hints at why baseball is such a fascinating game. They are the enemies of the sport.
How was the retro broadcast?
Awesome.
Very cool.
Love it!
❤❤❤❤
That rocked
I would watch whole games like this. Please do this more.
Same
I think B & W costs more
We would have watched the whole game in black & white. That was wonderful.
I’ve said it about older games and I’ll say it now, the view looking at first base here whenever they get the double play is the view they should always do for a play at first.
I saw this during the game and had a big smile on my face. Kudos to Fox Sports! You did an excellent job with this game.
I am glad this is so popular. pretty cool to see it this way.
A retro day, where even getting the fans involved with dressing in older attire, would make for a cool experience
Old time prices too
@@TOCC50lol
This was awesome that you did this! Kudos to the Fox team for this.
Fantastic! It reminds me of a "Turn Back the Clock" Game you guys did where you walked us through every era of television as the game went on!
That’s was I was thinking
Kinescope never dies! It's a wonderful masterpiece!
If only Mel Allen, Joe Garagiola, Curt Gowdy, Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Jack Brick house, Chuck Thompson and Ernie Harwell were alive to see this.
This was so cool.
The umpires could've worn their old school shirts.
This was awesome!
This was awesome. Do more of this.
Please just do this on a random game more often this is so cool
Why is this unironically way better? Ive always been a big pusher of removing strike zone overlays to encourage paying attention but the layout of things is just wonderful
Need's the really loud Hammond B3 playing in the background!! But good effort, could have used some multi-path noise here and there.
love the split screen
Wish they would show that now. When a pick off is tried at first now the director is always too slow in catching the actionl
MORE of this!!! Would love to watch an entire game between, say the white Sox and the cubs in this fashion!!!
You should have broadcast the whole program in black and white.
play in 144p
Definitely makes it more accurate
I watched it in 144p to get the feel of 1954 screens and I watched it with my 81 year old aunt.
This was sick.
Didn’t watch the game but this was awesome !!

@@ironcladchunk3633 Vin Scully was good but Red Barber was the source. Or Mel Allen.
The way the commentators spoke sounded different during that throwback. I think they made it mono instead of stereo. Their voices immediately sounded different the moment they changed back to color.
The retro broadcast was sick but it would’ve been better if they removed the giant FOX logo in the corner
This was cool to see.
I like this. It keeps you on your toes.
More of this please or at least make it an option! Loved this!
Golly, these newfangled cameras sure give you a humdinger of a picture, eh fellas?
Really swell lol
Joe Davis ❤
Love it! Baseball is the only sport that can do this!
I loved this! I was laughing each time they showed the graphic for the balls and strikes and the person batting. It brought back so many memories. They should've got Eli Gold to do the black and white broadcast.
It'd be really cool if the NFL did a similar thing once and awhile. Though, being able to look at the top or bottom of the screen and see the score at all times is one of those things you don't appreciate until you look back at games before they did that.
Hey Fox Sports can you upload the Full Retro Broadcast Inning of this game please?
1:20 the answer is Blernsball
Field of dreams soon☝🏼
Love this !! 🔥🔥🔥

I remember seeing that live, and that was so neat to watch, to see them go from decade to decade every couple of innings.
So awesome
Cool stuff!
Did they do the whole game?
The only thing missing is the transatlantic accent.
Nah. That was gone by the end of WWII.
Up next.....
Cover the Mets on a Saturday Night Game Of The Week. In honor of the 55th anniversary of their first World Series win, broadcast a full inning in 4×3 Standard Definition with White font lettering graphics ala 1969 NBC Sports!😂
Reminds me of ABC, NBC and CBS as well as WGN and WPIX during the '50s and '60s.
Kttv…dodgers
@goldeneve Yup and also KDKA Pirates.

Please do it again
More please
I think next time they do this they should have a youtube livestream like this amd hire impressionist to talk like the old time anouncers
They should’ve got Conan to do his Transatlantic accent for this.
That was cool.
Forgot to add the rolling screen
This is the MOST AMERICAN thing in the history of television. Baseball, how it was broadcasted back...WHEN AMERICA WAS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!
I won't argue that today's players aren't better than the old-timers were, but it would be interesting to see current players compete without helmets or body armor.
Should have been the Indians to play against the giants. Cleveland could have worn throwbacks.
Cool look though this is way higher depth. Also there is not a single example of split screen from the 50s broadcasts to be found anywhere yet announcer blindly claims its authentic 😂
They were joking
That type of split screen wasn’t quite there in the 50s but it was widely used by the 60s
Watch the 1952 World Series.
They came up with a way of doing a crude split-screen for 'Rocky King Detective' (and perhaps other shows) on DuMont in the 1950s by racking the lenses on two cameras only part way over, then superimposing them into one shot. Oh hold mayne, let me git da pliers so I can change the channel
Retro?!?!?!....Man they have new balance sneakers!!!....What?!?!?
MLB: we have the oldest fans and a shirking fan base
Also MLB: Let’s do a black and white broadcast!
Too bad Joe Buck isn't doing this like his father.
About 1500 lines too many .
It's telling that Fox couldn't put together a black broadcast team for this game.
anpanman!
Wait, did sport’s broadcasting just come up with a really cool idea that fans like? Don’t tell the suits, ratings might go up 🤫
The fake static was a little much. But the rest of it was cool.

Announcing sucks sooo bad
to REALLY make it retro: no shin guards, elbow guards, hand guards. also no gloves or helmet. make it like the old days
