Did you miss the part where bill is a serial cheater? The angel eyes song is about him and older rosie talks about him cheating on her regularly? The older woman also says young bill slept with every woman he met. Sam on the other hand has had his family arrange a wedding to a woman he does not love, and breaks the engagement but is told by the older woman that donna moved on. He then spends 21 years loving her and she him. Bill was a fun rebound. Neither had a deep love for the other
Bill slept around, even cheated on Rosie. However, I think Bill really liked Donna and if they had stayed friends after sleeping together they could have easily ended up together. Being open about missing Donna after her death is what brough him an Rosie back together.
I think the three men look good but they obviously changed up their appearances from Donna’s “memory” in the first movie but I hope their basic stories stayed the same.
Catriona McIntyre the overall spirit of the characters is okay, but they messed up the timeline established in the first film and they especially messed up the character of Harry, who is my favorite, which is why it probably bugs me. He was nicknamed “head-banger” and was supposed to be a punk guy, which I can forgive, but it bugged me that even though he met Donna in Paris, he actually goes to the island and he is the last to sleep with a Donna and he left his guitar with her, none of which happened in this film. I also have a problem with the fact that Sam mentions in the first film that Super Trouper is his song with Donna, to which Bill responds, “your song?” implying that both men not only heard Donna perform it, but had some significant interaction with her related to it, yet it’s not in the sequel until the end credits. Finally, Rosie’s crush on Bill felt out of place since in the first movie when she meets him it is not implied at all that she had met him before. There are more examples, but I won’t go there. I guess my problem is that I loved the original so much, and I know it too well, that I wasn’t able to just enjoy the sequel for what it is without obsessively comparing it to the first one.
I wish they would have just made the sequel about Donna's past and not throw in the present sad parts. I am still not over it. Had to re-watch the first movie after all the feels.
Saw the movie last night and what a blast it was! Lily James is absolutely perfect in everything she does - have loved her since her Downton Abbey days. I've seen Jeremy Irvine (young Sam) in a recent version of Great Expectations and he did well, but as an actor I though he was outshone by both the amazingly beautiful Josh Dylan (young Bill) and the adorably goofy Hugh Skinner (young Harry). I love Hugh Skinner so much, I can't help laughing at everything he does - if you haven't seen him as Prince William in the Windsors, you should get on that! Plus he is the idiotic intern Will in W1A and played goofy Unwin Trevaunance in Poldark series 2. He seems to pop up in everything I watch but I have to say he was my favorite of the young iterations of Donna's boyfriends. So, so sweet and charming in his version of Waterloo!
Young Bill is the most handsome one, Young Sam is the least, quite unexpected and Harry could have been more handsome but kinda OK. Lilly James is flawless.

I like how these three are like the embodiment of an actual relation and its stages. Like we start with Harry and they only just met so first time interactions can be awkward and you don't what to say or do to get them to like you. Then there's Bill those two are playful and teasing each other and they look like they're always having a great time, like you should as two good friends that have known each other every for a long time. And then the more you hang out with that close friend there's always a chance it can evolve into something more which is what Sam represents, the right person for that certain woman who can be romantic with her without being cringy or over-the-top or awkward, he can just hold her hand and smile she feel lighter than air. (SPOILER UP AHEAD) However every once in a while, there's gonna be fallout between the couple and it might take time together again but doesn't mean they can go back to being good friends and maybe try again some time else down the line. I think that's why Donna met Bill before meeting Sam, because those two are perfect as a couple and she and Bill are perfect as best friends and when the two split up, by some crazy coincidence she meets up with Bill again and they just click and hit it off and start doing best friend activities (well...mostly) and then several years later she's married to Sam whom have I've already stated is the manifestation of the final stage of a perfect relationship in this movie.
