- The fabulous Paul da Vinci sings "Sugar Baby Love". I recorded this fantastic performance at the hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, Germany during the Narrhalla Gala 2014. Uploaded with permission.

I remember writing this track back in 1973. I had no idea it would still be performed to this day. Truly a wonderful memory.

The true voice of the rubetts. This was my late brothers steve who died in 1975 through a work accident at 19 one of his favourite records in the 70s.nice one paul. Brings back so many memories mate.

Eu particularmente não acho esse cara tudo isso que dizem simplesmente não acho que ele seja esse super cantor porque e realmente fosse teria feito sucesso mesmo solo na realidade ele é lembrado graças a ter a gravado a primeira versão de sugar baby love e ter sido do conhecimento público por ele ter rompido o compromisso e graças a Alan ter aceitado divulgar a música ainda gravada por esse ai ele ficou conhecido então formou a lenda do super cantor mais não é nada disso na verdade creio que se essa música tivesse sido divulgada por esse cara aí teria ficado no anonimato assim como ele que não passa de uma lenda coitado nem beleza sobrou pra esse vovozinho caquético 😂
Wow. This is the SONG OF MY LIFE. I was 8 when this hit. I didn't know the name, but I loved it. I spent years trying to find it and I couldn't. In 1983 I found it in an old tape in my grandparents house in Madrid, in a trip scale from Miami to Tenerife, but lost the bag with it at the airport, just when I arrived. I thought I would never get it again, until I found it in Muriel's Wedding soundtrack. But much less I could imagine is I could congratulate the Author. Congratulations, Tony, it's my favourite song, the Hymn of my life, and the most creative and original music Masterpiece I have ever heard.

Paul did all the vocals on the original version. This song was pitched to another band and they turned it down. The Rubettes were formed with session musicians and Williams was brought in as the vocalist as Paul had signed a solo record deal. The agreement was that the song would be re-recorded with Williams doing the vocals but it never was and the song was released with Paul's vocals.

Man, this is a great song!! I used to get up just to hear it on Radio 1 early in the morning when it was Number 1. I didn't realise that Paul sang it first but was not the front man of the Rubettes!!
He sang it on the rubettes album, he thought his solo single was gonna make his career so didn't join the band, how wrong he was!

@@thehobo54 That's not true. The song had been recorded as a demo and was offered to Showaddywaddy (and others) who turned it down. The producers kept Paul's vocal and formed a band to front the record. Paul had already signed to another label so was unable to be in The Rubettes.
SBL songwriting and its production are sublime, nonetheless it's the best falsetto in pop music history which propelled the song straight to #1.

Sugar Baby Love brings back all my childhood memories, although I have got to say as much as I loved that song I also went on to love The Rubettes songs too. I remember I bought ... Your Baby Aint Your Baby Anymore and my friends and I made up a dance to it for the school concert lol memories

I was 20 yrs old when this song came out. At that time me and all my mates were heavy metal fanatics, But I loved this song for some reason, I think it was the falsetto. I could never tell my mates that I liked it for obvious reasons. But now I don't care. I still think it is one of the best pop songs of the seventies.

Paul Prewer (da Vinci) is one of these exceptional voices may invite the public to "look" into ténors, contre-ténors, haute-contres, sopranistes, et castrats bien sur. A lot to explore in those male voices and obviously likewise for the female voices. Good vibrations!
