    Recently diagnosed type 1 diabetic. Been put on this pen and novo rapid. In fact I'm about to inject lantus in the next 15 minutes.
    My advice is don't keep it in the fridge once you open the pen. It feels much better at a normal temperature than cold, and I think might bruise less as well. Just need to make sure you get as much of a pinch of fat as you can and find a relatively clear spot to inject. Eventually you'll use the same injection site as you run out of new spots but by that time it should've healed.
    Overall:
    Get a great pinch of fat, probably best in the lower abdomen area.
    Hold the fat with 2 fingers to avoid picking up muscle, which would be painful to inject into.
    Try not to build up the injection, take deep breaths and be as confident as you can be, if you're an anxious person.
    Don't push the needle in too slowly otherwise it'll hurt, particularly if you didn't get enough fat as well.
    Push the needle in, release the insulin, count to ten then gently pull the needle out and RELAX.
    Hold the injection site and rub it with your hand if experiencing weird sensations or pain.
    Lay down and rest for 10 minutes if you can.
    It's the same story if you're taking Novo Rapid.

    I use the Lantis pen. I notice some were not given instruction from their doctors. That is very sad, and should never happen! When it was prescribed, my dr. had me return to his office and have a nurse show me the correct way to use it, and did my first shot right there. That's the way it should be!

    Nice video, I diagnosed with T1 and use the FreeStyle Libre sensor with Blucon transmitter, I track blood glucose readings on watch and phone constantly and the phone gives alarm notifications when the glucose is out of range.

    Yo soy insulinodependiente la insulina largina lantus es una de las mejores solo se coloca 1 vez al día la misma es lenta de larga duración para el paciente. Es costosa y es conveniente siempre que el diabético lo consulte con su medico ya que cada caso es distinto. Recuerde consultar a su nedico

    I have been a type2 diabetic for 30 years and on insulin for 20 years and the last 6 months it gets incredibly hard to force insulin out of the pen, it just doesn’t stream out like it should, sometimes the needle slips and bends and squirts in the air, I’m thinking of changing my insulin to another brand that works better, you should talk to your engineers, this is ridiculous. My Walgreens pharmacist explain and walk me through the process better than my Doctor., I'm so outraged that my A1c was up to 13 and the Doctor never informed me of my results, I feel the lab should have flag it., went to ER month later cause I wasn't feeling well, then I was informed of my high A1c, and having stroke like symptoms., can't depend on these darn Doctors to give you your results, I will always call and check my lab results in the future....

    On the 'where to inject' part you didn't highlight the fat on the back of the arms. That is my favorite place to inject. In fact I only inject there and the thigh. You just put your arm on your knee to push the fat up. Also, you didn't angle the needle when injecting. I find you feel it less on an angle.

    • @lizettc3598
      @lizettc3598 4 года назад

      J Briggs do you know why we shouldn’t inject the arms?

  • @Wiseone1957
    @Wiseone1957 6 лет назад +2

    I agree with brazil5657. My doctor said it's fairly easy you won't have any trouble. Well I did. I was very nervous, looked up videos for advice only to realise that my pens didn't come with the needles so 20 mins before I am meant to use it I had to rush off to the chemist to buy some. Not impressed. Luckily the pharmacist was very helpful describing what needed to be done. I am a little confused as to whether you put the needle into your body on an angle or straight in. Fortunately it didn't hurt but I don't think I did it right because I just removed the needle when all the insulin had been pressed through and the button was flat and showing zero but what was quicker than 10 seconds for sure. Whoops better effort tomorrow. I was a bit confused as to why you would store the pen away again as mine are single use ones and I believe the whole lot is thrown away safely (again no one told me what to do with regards to disposing of the needle and pen. Why do you need to store the pens in the fridge if you can leave them out of the fridge for 28 days?

    • @michael85225
      @michael85225 5 лет назад +2

      You store the pens that are brand new and you are not using in the fridge and when you're done with the one you are using, take another one out of the fridge and let it heat up to room temp for about 1 hour. Also I inject straight in a fatty area and it works fine for me.

      This is a single use pen. You cannot reload the cartridge. The pen can deliver 300 units of insulin. Sanofi’s reusable pen is ClickStar. Here is the link diabetesnurse.goodbarber.app/insulin-pens/c/1/i/22557500/clickstar

    I'm a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic and I'm 28 years old. I'm using the lantus pen and I take 30 units at night. My pen only has 18 units left which is 12 short of my dose. Should I throw it out or use up the 18 units and then use 12 units of a new pen?

    • @6977warrior1
      @6977warrior1 4 года назад +1

      Michael- I'm sure you figured it out by now (1 year later). For future readers, use the last 18 units, then use 12 units from a new pen for a total of 30 units.

      shoulders lol how stupid. you always use fatty areas because the insulin spreds better in fat

    • @ShintyShinto
      @ShintyShinto 6 лет назад +1

      It is also much less painful in fat I think. You almost can't feel anything at all if you get a good pinch of fat. I think when it hurts (like a splinter over the course of 2 seconds) it means you're putting the needle in muscle or something that isn't fat.

    • @obridget02
      @obridget02 5 лет назад +5

      Danielle, it's not a stupid question in situations like this. It's best to ask so you don't cause a possible issue. You could have just explained it to her like the others did with out the insult. People have caused a lot of issues in their lives and health by not asking questions because they thought it was "stupid".
