As someone who enjoys kh3, I feel like it definitely feels like a game that was in development hell and eventually semi-rushed to release, and that's probably why it feels weird and like something is missing. It very much feels like a kind of rushed, almost half-baked game, that had lots of different ideas in its long, longgg development that never really came together
i think there's a bad narrative that more time means better game, or that we have to change our perspective to see the value in the development regardless of flaws. I haven't played kh3, but i play a lot of games and i can tell when something is done shitty or quick, not much thought put into it. So when kh3 came out i found people fell into a few categories, either you were really waiting for it and hold it to high esteem for the value of the series before its release. Or you waited for long and had super high expectations that were objectively not achieved, and therefore you think it's a bad game. Or you weren't too deep into the series and thought the game was fine with no special part of it. I hear that KH3 has empty worlds and that isn't good in any context really, i hear that there isn't the same level of freedom in execution moves and mobility. The way i see it, if you see a flaw and can come up with a solution somehow, then the game is doing this thing wrong clearly. And no amount of work will matter when you fail right? If you work for days on a project and it turns out bad then you have a bad project, feelings don't change reality. We all have opinions but there are standards and past experiences to compare KH3 to, so if there is an unpopular opinion then it is still valid, it isn't pulling crap from your butt just for the sake of hating. If a game feels like it has less things to do, less explorable areas, less combat/mobility options, pretty much if a game has less then it is flawed. I will play KH3 one day and i will keep a level headed expectation of it, the way it felt all these years, KH3 was in development hell and not given a priority after all the installments and the last time a major installment came out, KH2 in 2005 or 2006. Of course we also live in the era of live service games where we can add or change things in a game even after release. SO... I think that things can be changed to make the game better like side quests, more npcs walking around the disney worlds, secret areas, secret heartless bosses in each world, new combat arenas. But at this point it won't happen so i can only hope the next installment is hella good, a game that developers learn from.
Instead of fighting about which style or developer is better, we should see all of them for what they bring to the table, This series is extremely flexible and I commend all of the people who have brought their ideas together. The tokyo team games are sandboxes that give you many tools and toys to beat your enimies on the head with, while keeping it balanced and fair. the command deck promotes exploration because all of the best commands are in spots that require you to see the worlds for yourself, and putting together the ultimate deck makes fights feel great. The card system rewards collection and knowing each sleight rewards you heavily while also needing to concentrate on enemy cards and counters. In the end, please don't fight, nobody shouldn't be the enemy for liking a particular game, and we should agree to have opinions and accept them.
My personal problem with Kh3 is the way the demo was handled. All of the 2.9 part of the game - basically just Olympus - is in my opinion really good. Multiple paths to choose (climbing the mountain) , hidden area and rewards from those (the forge the garden), use of team abilities in smart ways (surfing through the fire), the world changes as the story goes on and just good design for all places (River hopping). Unfortunately after Olympus this is almost lost completely. There are no more hidden areas, most Worlds are just really wide corridors or just corridors wit big rooms, team abilities are never properly used again, the worlds are never changing and every world is just a generic theme with some recognizable locations (green forest, snowy mountain, a factory, big city, etc.) There is some charm left in early worlds like playing with Rapunzel but other then that all charm/interesting things are lost. This was a huge disappointment for me since I honestly was really hyped after the demo. I don't know if Square Enix just wanted to sell as much Kh3 as possible so they just put all of there creative thoughts into Olympus, but the rest of the game just seems so bland in comparison. I hope my English isn't to hard to understand and I was able to make my point clear. I haven't written in English for 2 years. Anyway BB, your Uploads are keeping me sane, because I can watch them and think about the criticism and topic you lay out. Keep up the good work
yea kh3 was half assed but I think it's so awkward because there were some pretty big things like switching over engines that wasted a lot of time for them
i can definitely see where you are coming from. but i honestly loved playing through KH3. even with it's faults, the level design is much better in my opinion than the soulless corridors and arenas of KH2. Also, The Caribbean is probabaly my new favorite world in the whole series.
@@darienb1127 I agree, the level design is much better in KH3 then in KH2. I also enjoyed my first two playthroughs of KH3 and had plenty of fun in them. It is just something I realized playing through it now on Crit. As I came to the realization, it just made me somewhat angry and disappointed. Personally I don't know what to think of the Caribbean. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the design of the islands. However to me it doesn't feel like a KH-World. It is just a generic open sea with no real character other then the annoying ship battles. This is where I see one of the biggest flaws of KH3. While the worlds are vast, beautiful und well designed (most of the time) they seem to lack character to me. Somewhere in the process of making worlds bigger and arguably better they lost there charm. I can't explain where or how but it happened. It makes me just not feel as engaged in the game, it's characters and story.

Re: Dodge cancelling out of combos, I’d wager that if you had suggested it before KH3, some would’ve said that KH doesn’t need it or that it’s “not a thing KH does.” Kind of like how it’s not a thing something like Monster Hunter or Souls does. A part of the challenge of the combat system is watching the enemy and picking the right moment to swing.
Maybe I'm reading your comment wrong but you can dodge cancel end lag in souls and mh. In mh it's even super important because the end lag of a lot of attacks is just as long as the attack itself.
@@pancakeman54 Flawed argument on my part. I shouldn’t try to logic while I’m tired. I guess what I mean is, with KH3 having such a small gap between when you commit to an attack and when the next window to dodge comes up, it never feels like the timing of attacks is important. Maybe I don’t have enough KH experience to properly comment, having only played through the games on standard, but from watching these randomisers it seems like part of KH2’s challenge (and KH1’s for that matter) is knowing when to cut a combo short so you can still dodge.
@@megaspudjasny Yeah can agree with that. I think they were going for more of an action game style akin to dmc or bayonetta where you could dodge out of most stuff but it's missing why you could in those games. Bayonetta had the awesome finishers at the end of long combos that you had to dodge offset to reach. Kh2 you could cancel lag with drive but it costs a resource so it adds to the strategy.
the fact that ethers do nothing is simultaniusly hallarious and sad all at the same time. also id say what KH3 is missing is uniqueness for the moves, or even the need to use the ones that are there in alot of cases. one of the bonuses for getting KH3 was the midnight blue keyblade which gave blizzard boost, with how passed games handled blizzard i was really excited to see what i could do with it early game and was so disapointed that it basicly is just a grind flow motion tool. ya it can freeze enemys, but freezing 1 maybe 2 enemys isnt useful with how the mob fights are and doesnt even work on bosses. for dmg wise fire i think still out does it for less MP to
This Video led me to your channel. It's amazing how literally giving Sora a ridiculous amount of air time in this game STILL LOOKS LESS FLOATY THAN KH3 lmao (Sora's gravity and physics in KH2 just feel right)
I think it feels clunkiest when I've been playing another kh game where the mobility is much more... well... more? I guess? But i get used to it pretty quick, it's just that little transition period. The only complaint i still have is that i feel the camera is a tad too close sometimes, but it's still something i can get used to, it just takes a little longer. I still like it tho, kh1 really does have its own feel that makes it special. And tbh I've been missing tech points in the rest of the games, i just think getting a point of exp for blocking something right or sending something back at the enemy was a neat little reward besides the satisfaction that you pulled it off. Also, It's thankfully not the clunkiest in the series tho.... I'm looking at you, Days... why does Roxas move like his clothes are made entirely of solid iron...
Is there any way for people to get this specific Plando (Seed?) for personal play? If not that's fine, I just really wanna try my hand at this nonsense in specific, looked fun!
Man, I really feel ya about your KH3 comments. It's the same with me and my friends when we try to discuss FFXV. I try to be fair about it and address the good and bad but they just get upset about it. They insist on acting like it's a terrible game through and through. I can see your dilemma with trying to review KH3. People don't listen to fair and reasonable arguments, they just want to hear what they already think.
KH3 is a game that people had been waiting for and been hyped for forever, so their expectations and their actual opinions and their attachment towards the series in general all color how they think about the game and how they approach other's opinions. Y'know, because of those things, the feelings runs deep, so it makes sense that people dogmatically take sides needlessly - in a sense, that's one of the themes of the series, or at least in KHUx's story. People don't want to have genuine conversations about the game and consider its design or how things feel and what things could have been improved because none of that really matters to them. Any challenging view is seen as an attack, and views that they happen to agree with validates their own, as opposed to food for thought or understanding others perspectives. It's likely that the greater challenge to any kind of review of KH3 than actually trying to identify and articulate aspects you do and don't like and what the core of your perspective is would be just attempting to dissuade reactionaryism from the topic being brought up in the first place and lulling the reader/viewer into actually taking in what you have to say.
To be fair, it’s all Nomura’s fault. He just created so many mysteries and plot points with no foundation. To make sense of it all and still have something to move forward is basically impossible. I blame all of this on Nomura, he complicated things so much unnecessarily that all of it just crashed down. The fact that there’s even a theory going around that the entire KH story was just Yozora’s dream proves my point, the story is such a clusterfuck that only a “All of it was just a dream” could remove the plot holes that Nomura created.
@@Tahlma1 That's why I think KH should go in a very fresh new direction in the following games, but don't entirely drop the old stuff. Just kinda keep the foreteller stuff in the background. ...There's barely any chance of that happening though

Few things i enjoyed out of KH3: The newer mobility options, Focus-Dashing, Motion Flowing around. Always felt KH did world mobility really well. And the DLC/update cheat codes, x3 stats so its not as much a chip-damage-hell as the base game. But, yea, i play it casually and its, got some issues...
I don't know if people feel this way when they like KH2 better than KH3 you posed the question why do people overlook the bad in KH2 vs KH3 and I don't think many people touched on the point of starting points in both games. In KH2 you start off being able to do an attack combo and it feeling a bit clunky and by the end of the game you feel really powerful because the game lets you play combat smoothly and if you compare KH2 start to end it looks way more refined. If you compare KH3 start to end the biggest differences are you have different keyblades for transformations and different magic. In KH2 you feel like someone aimlessly swinging a sword and hoping it hits something to someone who can combo an enemy into oblivion (no pun intended). KH3 you feel pretty powerful to by the end powerful. I am not sure how to phrase it but KH 2 and 3 have different starting points but have similar end points.

For the Dark Souls Remastered issue, it was for the most part the online gameplay being altered significantly mainly invaders and co-op phantoms being able to heal with the estus and the game suffers similarly to DS3 Invasions. There was also an implemented weapon matchmaking system that also messed up how common random invasions would work as a whole. The last biggest complaint would be the invasions spawns as those can be easily abused to be spawn trapped depending on your point of view this is a good or bad thing but for the most part I’ve seen more complaints. But outside of the online gameplay nothing was really notably change.
I don’t know about everyone else, but what I really want out of kh game/kh4 is different characters/stories to play. Not just one off fights. But actually able to develop and level up riku, sora, kairi whatever.
As someone who loves Kh3 (KH2 too but 3 more) I got something to say to everyone on the last KH talks that were rude to BB. You're on thin ice. Personally, I will respect people that respectfully dislike KH3, mostly because I respectfully dislike BBS and ReCoM a lot. xp So let's all just be nice.
Hey man, if it helps your KH3 "research" I'm one of those people that enjoyed KH3 even though I saw things I didn't like from the start, and now I see even more. When I stumbled upon your videos and analyses on the game and the comparison of systems (with prev games), it really helped me put words to the things that felt "off" for me, I really appreciate that. I don't like screen-clearing attacks that require no commitments, Dynasty Warrior style. I didn't like that most combos go out of control (usually also airborne) into their own "little movie," and I don't want my battles to be laden with Mini-Games as the main-solution to clear the bloat of enemies. But, somewhere in there, probably thanks to cool movement, the use of spells, some keyblade transformations (especially non-finisher attacks), I enjoyed it. It was a bit of KH: Musou (and I can't understate the contempt I have for those games) but KH was back baby, and I wanted to like it. Truth be told, by the end of it, I was glad I played it, but I also felt like I wouldn't' want to play it again, not any time soon. It was more of a "visual" experience for me, from the story to the grand locales, the enhanced graphics, and flashiness of the moves, it was enjoyable, like a movie but, like most movies, I don't generally feel compelled to rewatch them.
BB can you do a talk on MoM? The crazy hatred of it seems so unwarranted to me. Like if you enjoy it cool, if you don't like the concept you can read about the minor added details online. The gatekeeping seems so insane to me. A lot of comments say, "I'll just stick to 1+2 because this isn't MY KH", but it doesn't have to be a replica of 1/2 imo
Dude, I'm watching the video and I'm enjoying it. I'm at 59.23 min at the moment, but I want to respond at what you said about KH3. You are absolutly free to have your opinion, with some points I agree with you (like when you were talking about the satisfaction of destroy Heartless being inexistent [I think most of it dedends by the fact that the game difficulty is really unbalanced] and some of the animations are bland). I personally enjoyed the game, but I was expecting so much more from it, and the most dissapoiting thing (for me) is the rushed story. That point beside, I think that people should be free to have an opinion and it's unfair to bully or attack a person in any argument (that for me just shows how immature a person can be without respecting others opinion).I'll go back to the video, just wanted to write that. Keep it on man.
57:42 you're going to be interpreted as "unfair" because FGC people in-general talk from the position of "you're a casual/not-a-***high-level***-gamer if you don't share our core beliefs in what 'good games' are"; Your personal opinions in KH Talks unintentionally affiliate yourself with the pedantic-FGC-zombie caricature who talks like "this is the only way to have fun", even when you know that it's not what YOU're saying. Years of Hyper-Opinionated FGC have made regular viewers tired of anything that looks & sounds & talks like The Caricature. For regular viewers, ***high-level gamer*** just means "You are good at game", no matter how it exists or how its physics/mechanics were implemented. To a regular viewer, An FGC Caricature's opinion on "this game is bad because it doesn't fit x,y,z ideals" shouldn't be what qualifies someone as a ***high-level gamer***. But in the current environment, a fan is implied to be low-level if they disagree with FGC tastes. And I'm saying this as someone who loves watching your KH Talks. To have civil discourse, you would have to fix the FGC's overall reputation/culture of gatekeeping. And that's too big to be solved by one Mr. Streamer :(
A small level of gate keeping should be expected from the FGC. The top “high-level” players know how their games work to consistently get great results. The real problem comes from the *LOUD* folks in the middle, between casuals and professionals. The ones that scream that optimal gameplay is the only way to have fun in a game. I think the top players generally know how to be optimal when they need to and still have fun when the stakes are removed. The caricature really comes from the folks who don’t know how to turn off the “MUST PLAY OPTIMAL” switch.
Wonderful stream, one of the things I wanted to say is that no matter what you have to say about KH3 there will be those who hold such a strong stigma to it and bias to it. You should feel able to speak your mind on it as no product is perfect no matter how great or bad it is, those with a open mind will be open to discussing about the game and not be closed mind to different opinions on what they like. You express what you feel like needs to be expressed in this review and how you would like it, something you should be proud of is something you won't regret even through discourse and fall out because KH3 has already popped the lid on how toxic this community can be and no matter what you say there will be those with some idea of you in their mind (like a cognition in Person 5) that won't falter or whatever. KH as a series and especially KH3 is not perfect and can be left up to many to whether or not if the wait was worth it, I for one can't wait to hear your full opinion on Base KH3 and Remind as I watch all your KH talks and opinion pieces like the turning point, have a good day if you read all of this.
With kh3 I feel like the gameplay itself wasn’t bad just the bosses weren’t good and it made the combat feel even worse because of it and I feel like they were lazy with adding the new abilities in remind it’s like you either get it right at the start be overpowered or you get it after the final boss like I wanted to unlock the new combat abilities as I went through the game for example get quick slash or whatever it’s after kingdom of corona etc it would just make it much better for that sense but the bosses in general needed work which I think they successfully done in remind
Being completely honest, I liked kh3’s gameplay the best out of all of them. I did love kh2, but I have to agree that kh1’s movement was weighty. Compared to kh2 and 3 it felt like you had sandbags on your banana shoes. (Also starting with combo master was amazing.) the combat system of kh3 felt super fluid to me, and I had a great time just zipping around with the different keyblade formchanges. I still really like kh2’s gameplay, and until I played kh3, it was my favorite.
1:30:00 This argument i felt like I made when people have asked me which is my least fave KH game, and I never really thought of it like that. Since at the time of me playing KK1 for the first time I played re:coded and DDD plus the lack of me playing old games. So its eye opening that I haven't seen myself wit this mentality
Yo Bloody, Shojumaru here. Sorry I'm late to the conversation but I've been thinking about the feedback you got during your KH3 analysis. What you got to understand BB is that most people playing KH3 may not be the same people who grew up with with Kh 1 and 2 like we did. These are younger guys not seasoned veterans. With the way the gaming culture has changed and culture in general, just understand there's always gonna be "that guy". They dont like the same things we like in a game. There are those who will settle for kh3d graphics over gameplay. Stupid plots over profound stories. They wanna talk trash cuz ur a speedrunner, but what they dont realize is your one of the closest things in the kh community we have to an actual "game tester" who explores all options and makes sure the game is "balanced"....For all! Not just the critical mode guys, are level 1 hardcore fans. Some of these guys are kids or teens who wanna turn their brains off and play a nice flashy game. Most pay 60 dollars to play a game they will only run through once. At this point i cant even blame Nomura, i just blame the marketing and greedy business stand point of the industry. I also really blame ppl for complying with it

And boy did it hurt (my ego)
My personal problem with Kh3 is the way the demo was handled. All of the 2.9 part of the game - basically just Olympus - is in my opinion really good. Multiple paths to choose (climbing the mountain) , hidden area and rewards from those (the forge the garden), use of team abilities in smart ways (surfing through the fire), the world changes as the story goes on and just good design for all places (River hopping).
Unfortunately after Olympus this is almost lost completely. There are no more hidden areas, most Worlds are just really wide corridors or just corridors wit big rooms, team abilities are never properly used again, the worlds are never changing and every world is just a generic theme with some recognizable locations (green forest, snowy mountain, a factory, big city, etc.)
There is some charm left in early worlds like playing with Rapunzel but other then that all charm/interesting things are lost.
Keep up the good work
yea kh3 was half assed but I think it's so awkward because there were some pretty big things like switching over engines that wasted a lot of time for them
There's a running joke about someone apologizing for their english when it is used well.
i can definitely see where you are coming from. but i honestly loved playing through KH3. even with it's faults, the level design is much better in my opinion than the soulless corridors and arenas of KH2.

My response, as a person who monkey brain bashes the attack button: WHY WOULD I WANT TO DODGE, THOUGH, I CAN JUST HIT THEM MORE!
Thanks for this, you make my nights better.

also id say what KH3 is missing is uniqueness for the moves, or even the need to use the ones that are there in alot of cases. one of the bonuses for getting KH3 was the midnight blue keyblade which gave blizzard boost, with how passed games handled blizzard i was really excited to see what i could do with it early game and was so disapointed that it basicly is just a grind flow motion tool. ya it can freeze enemys, but freezing 1 maybe 2 enemys isnt useful with how the mob fights are and doesnt even work on bosses. for dmg wise fire i think still out does it for less MP to

@@Woodenfan To me while the worlds in KH1 were super horrible to traverse, they were the most cool looking in the series and very memorable.

Randos are fun. Make more friends and keep doing co-ops. The way to go for sure. Double the fun.
Why does Thumbnail Sora look like he wants to ORA ORA old Xehanort?
you'd love the #55 randomizer's thumbnail
I'm gonna say it: KH3's story felt like a rushed story to create.
Oh man absolutely. It just sucks that everything that was built up throughout all the previous games ended with that games story and ending.
@@achair7958 That’s honestly a pretty good idea. The Xehanort saga is pretty much over so doing something new would be a good way to continue KH

Few things i enjoyed out of KH3:
The newer mobility options, Focus-Dashing, Motion Flowing around. Always felt KH did world mobility really well.

16:24 I love that the spot that always has a power up doesn’t have a power up… in a seed based entirely around power ups
In kh2 there is more grind to get to maximum potential in kh3 you get it in a formchange right off the bat.

Then again, there may have been.
Ah fuck that would have been good
Around 3:03:00 I swear that last finisher took 3 bars off sephiroth. Holy crap!
You CAN just enjoy things.
It's not childish to enjoy something even if it is flawed.

You're on thin ice.
Personally, I will respect people that respectfully dislike KH3, mostly because I respectfully dislike BBS and ReCoM a lot. xp
So let's all just be nice.
YOUR CONTENT IS VALUED.
I had a great time watching "Every time MJ took it personally"... thanks for that, BB.. oh right the stream was great too, but dont take it personally
May your heart be your guiding key.
An enemy/boss swap plando would be cool
Honestly that sounds awesome!
Look at all of bizkit047's randomizer videos from years ago. Sonic did three with boss replacements and one with enemy replacements
Akita I've seen those and that's why I think it'd be cool to see BB do one. Maybe the same ones that biz did
57:42 you're going to be interpreted as "unfair" because FGC people in-general talk from the position of "you're a casual/not-a-***high-level***-gamer if you don't share our core beliefs in what 'good games' are"; Your personal opinions in KH Talks unintentionally affiliate yourself with the pedantic-FGC-zombie caricature who talks like "this is the only way to have fun", even when you know that it's not what YOU're saying.
