Sounds more like a bunch of vaginas and the cops also that pretended or actually had panic attacks. Powder fentanyl doesn't penetrate through your skin and being outdoors they definitely didn't get enough to overdose just from looking at it.
As a commercial backcountry wilderness guide for 10+ years. People would always ask, "What's the most dangerous part of guiding?" I would always say, "Humans." Safe travels everyone.
You are not wrong. The chances you're injured or killed by a wild animal are lower than the chances of you winning the lottery. The chances of you getting injured or killed by another person is a lot higher.
I have participated in camping for over 60 yrs. now and I cannot remember ever going camping without a firearm. Over the last 50 yrs., I not only carried a firearm, I always had a dog with me as well. On my most current camping trip, I was accompanied by my wife (who also carries a firearm) and my Boxer that weighs in at 115 lbs. I definitely agree that you should be ready to protect yourself while camping. There's a lot of predators out there that can and will do you harm...the most dangerous of them all is humans.
@@tonydoggett7627 Jeeeze. Australia? Ya'll got some bad azz creatures down there. But since most are either in the water or small (but venomous), I can understand why you don't need a firearm for them.
I started solo camping when I was 12 and I had a 22 rifle with me. Later a 22 cal handgun. Graduated to a 45 which I still use and I'm 80. 25 years ago I acquired a Retired Deputy Sheriffs Star and ID after 27 years of service , which goes with me along with the 45. Yep , firearms all the time but concealed , no percentage in advertising. My favorite item is non lethal even thought it makes you wish you were dead. It's Bear Spray with a range of 30 feet. I like it since it's good for all sorts of varmints both 2 or 4 legged ones. I backpack or canoe and my campsites are always out of sight and hidden. Old habits are hard to break.
Thanks for confirming that. I was considering the bear spray and also a taser, although I do have a Glock. I don't like the idea of someone getting close enough to even consider using a knife; at my age I don't want to be arm wrestling and chance it gets turned on me. But bear spray can ward off intruders at a distance. A taser is a little easier to hang from my belt along with pepper spray.
I’ve heard people still get some backspray from bear sprays and can incapacitate themselves along with the bear or attacker. Apparently the gel bear sprays are way better, more precise and little to no backspray. Just my two cents, for what it’s worth… which is uhm, apparently two cents.
I’ve solo camped since the 1970s. In the 1990s I took several multi-state trips, solo camping without any incidents except a bear sniffing my tent at 3 am. The world has changed. I never camp alone now.
As a forester we were cautioned about approaching remote camps - often grow operations or chem labs brewing bad drugs. We just never knew who or what we may run into. Safe travels you all.
I wish you well, but I also remember it's your forestry bosses that won't let me have a gun to protect my family while on National Park land. We used to be more concerned about dangerous critters, frankly. But now they want us to camp out there unarmed while knowing there may be a meth lab holed up nearby? Geeze... Thank your bosses for me. lol
@@BeerIndependence4All I haven't seen these camps in our national or provincial parks. These are very typically very heavily policed and have very limited access to the public. On public land this is very different and we can pack the heat! In fact we go through firearms, bear spray, bear awareness and drug lab awareness as part of annual training. A common misunderstanding is that in Canada we are disarmed and cannot carry firearms. Far from the reality we just don't advertise it and seldom (extremely rare) need to use them.
Last month I was dispersed camping in a heavily over grown wilderness. Scouted the area earlier in the day everything seemed clear! Well later that night same thing, a light coming towards my camp about 100 yards. I was alone and had no protection. After 5 years of camping alone this was my first experience. As i watched the light bounce around I packed up and left. That is that last time I go camping without protection. Thanks for sharing
Yeah that’s why California is hard to protect yourself. Illegal to carry a firearm. Go to prison if you’re caught with it. But you’ll be killed if you’re caught without it
As a female who camps solo or with my grandchildren I appreciate this less than lethal info. I’m always armed & carry other forms of protection as well & my GSD always camps with me but this is definitely another defense I will be adding to my arsenal. For those who say “never camp solo”, for some of us living in fear & giving up what we love is not an option. Be aware, be safe, and HAVE FUN. Life is too short.
Take a careful look at the independent Byrna reviews. If the assailant is wearing a thick fluffy jacket, none of the ammo the Byrna uses will have any effect.
You obviously haven't had any really close calls yet. The reality is women should not camp alone. Have you not seen in the news how many dead females are found in state and federal parks? There's a difference between being fearless and being stupid. You simply do not understand exactly how dangerous men are. The majority of murders on campgrounds are women who were killed only by opportunity of a man. Between men go places with no intention of killing anyone, but they do it because they could. The less than lethal gun, is foolish garbage.
Dang! That’s crazy. I don’t really worry about animals much while I’m out. But my concern has always been about people trying to do something. You handled that perfectly!!
I e never worried about animals while camping. I will always worry about humans more. They are less predictable and more dangerous than nearly anything in the wild save for moose, Grizzly and polar bears.
Looking into that Byrna… I highly appreciate you for posting this video. You are 1000% in regards to never trusting the area where you camp and always be ready! Thank you so much
I went camping in Northern New Mexico, last summer. Was told by the rangers that the parks were full of lunatics. We were heavily armed. A very large black bear came through our camp that night. His presence didn't bother me as much as knowing that there were lunatics in the campgrounds. Makes you not want to go on a hiking, or camping trip, especially with small children. Sad world.
There are large populations of black bears living in pretty close proximity to people, they're generally ok. Grizzlies terrify me, I was thinking about getting a camper shell setup to give me a little protection in grizzly country. The idea of sleeping in a tent in Grizzly country spooks me.
Good tip! Last time I camped, my full cooler was taken, later that night, I ended up pulling a knife on a guy who came into my tent uninvited. In retrospect, perhaps I should have left after the cooler theft? It was a red flag that I ignored.
-- Pending where I am and what season, I always have a Mossberg 12g and a Glock 19 on hand. My daughter is 7, attends private military academy (never send my children to public schools) so she's certified with AR platforms and getting there with pistols (final beginners course next year). I don't go anywhere unarmed. And I always go with a couple teammates and their families (save state campgrounds which I find safe enough - least the ones around here). I'll ask RUclipsrs that do off the grid camping (there's a bunch of them) questions. How much does your kit weigh, what brand is this, that, etc. They're happy to answer until (especially the women that go out alone) I ask them what sort of firearm do you carry for protection. Half of them don't answer (in such a manor that leads me to believe they're not carrying), the other half say, 'A gun? Oh, heavens no I don't carry.' Of course I carry in bear country too, but 99 percent of the time if you encounter an aggressive bear, you've done one or multiple things wrong, or, you're out during the wrong time of the season. Had more problems with people similar to your experience than aggressive animals. Good advice you have there, thumbs up. But I'd stress, off the grid camping requires a buddy system (you have it) and the correct firearms. If I can't camp in an area because it doesn't allow firearms, most of the time I don't camp there. Sometimes I just break the law (don't recommend that). I'd rather be alive than dead.
12 gauge shotgun is only a close quarters of 6 to 10 feet . I much rather have a Longer range M16 reliable Gun if grizzlies and mountain lions and bad guys coming at you from a fast running animals trying to kill you and your family and friends and longer range guns give a innocent American campers a time to act .
Thanks for the video! A lot of us talk about preparedness when it comes to camp and having what we need. But being prepared for bad actors often gets left out. Thanks for bringing awareness
Thanks for making this video. I've had good luck camping with friends and road tripping with minimal gear, but I've been planning some longer road trips with nicer equipment. Gonna make sure I think that through before departing. The drugs are making things sketchy out there.
WOW... thanks for the video. Frightening though, I have been wanting to go solo camping now for a few years. Now after watching this video I will have to reconsider it. I don't own a gun, I use to camp a lot when I was in my 20's now I'm in my 60's I guess our world really has changed. I've watched a lot of videos on camping, hardly any talk about how to stay safe while camping. I'm glad the two officers did not die from the fentenall and you all were safe.
Moral here? Don’t do any solo camping or backpacking. I backbacked on the Old Chimney Trail in Great Smoky Mountains with a friend. Set up camp at a lean-to as darkness encroached. It began to rain. A stranger entered camp. He was wearing a garbage bag serving as a rain parka. He also had on cutoff blue Jeans and Converse basketball shoes. Me and my friend got the impression this guy was an escaped prisoner or someone on the run from the law. At any rate, no sleep because we had to keep our eyes on this guy as well as keep our knives handy. At dawn we ate some oatmeal and broke camp, continuing our hike into Gatlinburg where we finally got a good nights rest at a Holiday Inn.
It’s definitely a different world out there but Me and Kim typically go everywhere by ourselves but we ALWAYS have a means of protection on us at all times. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
First, I never camp where I am prohibited from possessing my firearm. Secondly, I have equipped my truck with auxiliary lighting front and rear. The lights come on and illuminate the entire space, 360 degrees, when I push the lock or unlock button on my key fob. I always position my truck so that it will light up camp in all directions. Always put the key fob in the same place for easy access. I also keep a small but bright tactical light near my firearm. Thankfully, I've had to use all of this once to run off a curious bear that took shelter under my camper in the middle of a nighttime thunderstorm.
I concealed carry even in casinos I could give a shit what they’re supposed rules are about it I see a sign that says no firearms my firearm is on me I rather ask for forgiveness later on if need be but at least I’ll be alive!
I got approached by a couple of psychopaths on a New Years campout. The guys kept driving back and forth in the early evening. Then around 8pm, there was a lot of rifle fire nearby. Then awhile later, these folks drove down to a campsite 500ft away. They were dragging things into the woods. The one guy creeped up through the woods right up to my campsite to check me out. I kept a light in his face but was firm. About 20-30 minutes later, his female partner started ranting about the criminal justice system and how people treated her after she was incarcerated, as she was wandering into a nearby field. I packed up quickly and got out of there. I called the police once I got out of there. I had bear mace and a stick...no gun.
I open carry and I got beat up for politely asking fellow campers to pipe down a bit at 3 a.m. and I had to Draw Down on them and Point my Firearm at one to get them to stop and they thought the Police would take me to Jail, Wrong! But they all went and my Firearm Saved my Life but my Bad for Camping in a Campground, never had problems just camping out in the Boonies, just Campgrounds. Camping without a Gun is like Driving your car without a Spare Tire, not wise.
Absolutely right that it is our own responsibility to protect ourselves and family. Even the police are not obligated to protect us, that’s been proven by at least 3 Supreme Court rulings. Their weapons are for their own protection.
Wow! Great way to stay aware of your surroundings! Good to know you’re always with others who are aware as well. Plus you know whether you can bring a firearm or bring something else to protect yourself in a time like this. I would be more worried about a man roaming with a flashlight then a black bear in the woods. Sadly! It’s come to that these days. I pray those officers are OK and recovering after the encounter with drugs. That’s a sad situation.
@@DownSouth_Adventures Though I haven't seen your 2nd most precious thing on this planet,.. Your Dog you said you had. I did notice how you Breezed over a particularly IMPORTANT part of checking air guns in Checked Baggage. Like you could use it in some way on an aircraft. At least you gave that impression,.. without the Facts. ... The TSA regulations regarding air cylinders state that Compressed Air Guns ‘Including paintball markers, may be carried in checked baggage without compressed air cylinder attached.’ TSA regulations require that 'CYLINDERS BE EMPTY' when travelling, hence they should be drained of propellant (compressed air or Co2) prior to packing ... Air Guns, are far less Useful, or a threat,.. WITHOUT AIR 😏 But you knew that right ? Need to know Why ? Or is that damn obvious too 🤤
Wow, that's crazy! I've been thinking about getting my wife and I each a Byrna. Seen the reviews on them and they are nice. Right now, in gun free camping zones, I have an old Tippman paint ball gun set at 405 fps. with a 14 in. barrel. Works great on coyotes. With that said, I still have my EDC. I'll never go without it. Especially on land my taxes pay for.
Go with your gut feeling. If or when camping and there is a group that is close by and they are loud and most likely drinking. It is best to move camp. Do not get discouraged going camping. You can have great time. Just make sure you are aware of your surroundings and keep a weapon of some sort close. Get out doors, just be smart about it.
To add to this topic. If you are with a spouse or significant other and they do not wish to tear down camp and move. Calmly explain why camp should be moved. If you are bush camping, there will be other spots to set up camp. Moving is just an added insurance to safety. If you are located in a camp ground. Tell management. They will most likely approach the group that is loud and intoxicated or move you to another site further away. Just be polite. If you are camping and your group is the loud and intoxicated group and someone is close by. Reel your friends back in. Everyone I camp with is married with children. So everyone can settle their voice and attitude. But not seeing individuals for a year, spirits become high and the stories and booze begin to flow. Just remember your surroundings. Not just for your safety, but you want others around you to feel safe as well.
Insightful. Liked the quotation. I hope this video gets more traction. Weapons for protection are paramount as is the buddy system. I have weapons scattered throughout my house even, especially when I'm in the shop running loud equipment late at night. Ambush is so easy and so is having weapons strategically placed.
I have a less than lethal pistol. I was attacked from behind in New Orleans once. As he spun me around, I pulled my little 22 mag derringer that I had my hand on in my pocket. Had he knocked me to the ground, I would have gone for the Pocket 9 Detonics on my ankle. Fortunately, the big dude who attacked me backed off with his hands in the air when he saw the gun, so I didn't have to pull the trigger. Often just seeing a gun will cause the perp to have an attitude adjustment with no shots fired or anyone harmed.
Area alarms can be useful. Even the cheap battery-powered motion detector lights can do a lot to enhance your peace of mind and are not too heavy to pack in. Honestly, I would have called Security Forces immediately after the first interaction. Eglin is a place where lots of fun stuff is done. (I know....) Random folks just wandering about could be anything from junkies to spys to terrorists. When they didn't know about the pre-use brief is when they needed to have a talk with the motivated 19 year old with an M-4. And his/her friends... And "Fluffy" the fur-missile, who is the bestest of doggos... For what it is worth, I think you did well. Choose the engagement zone. Defuse any issue. Keep alert. Less lethal is better than nothing, but I have a deep distrust of the effectiveness of those systems. I have health issues, so I don't think going hand-to-hand would go well for me now. If you come to the San Antonio area, there are some nice MWR areas. Glad y'all were safe.
Dang it, I was going to stay at military bases during my travels to stay safe and now I have to worry about drug addicts hiding on the base. Thank you for the video and glad to hear that everyone is safe.
@@DownSouth_Adventures I have been thinking about buying a Byrna for the past month now. But, I still plan on staying at military bases during my travels while alone if there is one near me.
Eglin is different. They were not in the gated section, but one that while technically on the base, is accessible by anyone. There are several bases like this. The FamCamps on bases are secure, but you need to pay and are often squeezed in nut to butt with your neighbor. I used to stay in the FamCamps when I had my RV, but don’t bother now that I’m in my truck.
As someone who camps a lot in Baja California, where carrying a firearm isn't an option, I really appreciate this video and will look into that "less-than-lethal" pistol. Thanks.
TYSM! I love camping with my girl, Shadow and loved seeing this video. Always need to make sure we're protected. I do have my arms, but i love the Byrna SD. i must get me one. ❤❤❤
Be careful about the Byrna. In some jurisdictions it IS classified as a firearm and you will need a CWP to carry it. Even putting it in a lockbox only makes it legal to actively transport--not to stop overnight, etc.
This is a great video, and something that more people need to keep in mind! The only thing that I would add is not to be overly reliant on the OC. It's a great option, but it can be of limited effectiveness on persons under the influence. I've sprayed about a dozen people, and the drunks are always the ones that can fight through it.
@Down South Off-Road and Outdoor if they only knew your true capabilities with any non- firearm/ firearm, they would only have came to that camp once.. 😆
If you're waiting for the police you will be a grease spot before they arrive , be aware and conscious of your surroundings and take care of your own situations .
Thank you sir for the video information as well as the weapon options on protecting yourself. Here recently I've been doing alot of solo camping and this has definitely been on my mind. As well as setting perimeter alarms around camp.
Well done sir👏🏻 I carry my blade at all times. Even in my swim trunks at the beach. Becasue you never know what you will encounter, and when. Thanks for this video!
I carry while camping, and set up a trip wire perimeter around my camp at shin level . I purchased these shot shell perimeter alarms that make a loud bang (not shot, just the sound from the powder going off) There have only been a couple instances where I camped I a place that made setting up this perimeter difficult if not impossible, as I usually camp in the woods among trees and not right out in the open. If anything approaches my camp, I know about it and can ready myself for whatever threat may have wandered into my camp. I've only had mt perimeter go off twice, one was a deer, the other probably smaller animal that took off as I didn't see it. Animals though really aren't your concern, for the most part they will choose to stay away from you, the real monsters while camping are other people that might not have your best interest in mind
Thanks for this informative video. I've always made sure I had a knife when camping or hiking. Not really a gun guy but this option is excellent. Thanks for the great review. Also great to ward off bears and lions while hiking in mountains which I really like it for.
That is crazy dude. Way to stay diligent and aware of those around you. Prayers that the officers recover. And I’m gonna need one of those NDK hats you were wearing. Just bring it to the next ALC.
@@RichYoung we don’t know what drug causes the issue when they were wrestling around in a small tent that was filled with drugs. They were there for two hours, and didn’t start having symptoms until about 30-to an hour later. The officers that came by the next morning let us know that they were both fine that morning.
@@DownSouth_Adventures The officers both had panic attacks. Tunnel vision, shortness of breath, whole body going numb, heart racing/pounding, cold sweat, inability to think clearly... and yet it's all in your head. If you've never had a panic attack, and particularly if you're unaware of the symptoms, you will absolutely KNOW you'll die unless you get help. If someone tells you "it's just a panic attack" you won't believe them, you KNOW something is very wrong. But you're wrong. Overwhelmingly powerful physical symptoms, but they arise from your thoughts getting out of control. The media has spread this myth about casual overdose on fentanyl. It's a modern superstition. It's most contagious among cops and paramedics because everyone likes a good story. I'm not being dismissive - it's a very real, very powerful phenomenon. The opposite of placebo effect, the nocebo effect. And then the panic attack itself is like a positive feedback loop... you feel like you're dying so you think you're dying so you panic which makes you feel like you're dying.... The cure is simply to correct your thoughts and breathing pattern. "This is a panic attack, I'm not dying." Breathe slow but deep like you're trying to inflate your stomach not your chest. Exhale forcefully and completely. 10 minutes later it's like waking up from a bad dream. PS great video, you handled everything perfectly.
Laws be damned, been into camping for 15 years and it's extremely rare that I won't bring a gun. Never once been in a situation where I've felt that I needed to use it, but I will always give myself that option. If SHTF then the court can hear my side of the story and make their decision as to whether I should have calmly accepted my murder. P.s. love the less than lethal option, especially if you've got friends who can help detain afterwards
Be careful with that detention thing. While it may seem like the right answer at the time, it can open you up to possible criminals charges in some places, and almost certainly lawsuits afterwards.
If you like the Byrna, you’ll love the FN model 303! Its like a Byrna Assault Rifle, and used by prison systems and police departments. Like the Byrna, it has several types of projectiles including CS/CN powder, heavy impact, dye marking ect. And utilizes a drum magazine.
Wow that was crazy. Glad to hear everyone was OK 👍 hopefully those officers are OK. Perfect way to think. I'm the former warrior on a boat trying to grow a garden. Wait.... I might have jumped out of too many airplanes ✈
I'm from Philly originally, which is the per capita murder capital of the United States and probably the Free World, so I sold everything and bought a big Homestead in the country. Now when my girls want to Camp we just walk outside. We have Woods, lakes, and a few acres of cleared fields. When we sleep outside I am still armed.
Wow, I’d be terrified as well. Great suggestion with the Byrna, absolutely fantastic to have on you, not to mention a fantastic product. Great advice, Sir.
Very good message! I have a patch on my headliner "It's up to us, help isn't coming" Always expect to self rescue. I've done a fair amount of camping in Canada where even bear spray is illegal in places, much less firearms. Always have some type of plan to take care of yourself. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate you sharing your story. Some fools pulled a gun and robbed people hanging out at a beach bonfire in San Diego a year or two ago. So literally no where is safe anymore!
@@DownSouth_Adventures And I am saying that the Constitution recognizes that "self defense" is a God given right. I would go further to say that at least in CA you are allowed to use whatever means necessary to defend yourself and others.
Another option - Raid "Wasp and Hornet Killer" It's an aerosol that comes in a Black Can. The main reason I suggest this is it sprays a stream that goes for 20 feet. And, it really works...especially when it gets in their eyes!
@@DownSouth_Adventures Absolutely...Sam Colt gave us the great equalizer, nothing compares. But in states/countries that take issue with self defense, it's an easy-to-explain item to have with you..."I have an allergy to their stings". Living in Alaska, travel through Canada is a regular occurrence for many up here. I had a petite female friend ask what she should do because she was making the trip alone...Raid Black was what we came up with during that brainstorming session.
Good on ya for calling 911 and following their advice. Continuing on your vigilante style investigation into the dark unknown could have gone extremely bad for you in so many ways.
I guess in a similar situation I probably would just leave and not play shinobi. Depends on my party, though. But usually, the collective mindset would probably more likely vote for moving on rather than investigating or remaining. Being well armed wouldn't make the anxiety go away. But on the whole, yeah, I come from a family that - at least on my dad's side - believes in expecting the worst and being prepared for it.
There was a time I was crazy enough to hike and even camp without a firearm. Not anymore.. can't believe I used to camp like that, bad idea. The number of druggies, psychos and crazy people has skyrocketed
I would never camp without the real thing...wife and I always take pistols and keep an SBR within arms reach. Unfortunately camping isn't safe like it was "back in my day" and I've had too many strange things happen to take chances with my life and those around me
Wow as a single woman camping by my self, I was thinking about my safety today as I was doing research on gun laws in other states. I think that non lethal gun might do the trick for me. Thanks for the information.
I could never go camping without a gun. There's just to many crazy people and dangerous animals in the woods. But I don't really have to worry about people cause I'm usually way out in the woods and not on trails.
Protecting yourself means: Situational awareness at all times. Planning multiple course of action if the What If occurs. Adequate firepower with a good base knowledge of how and when to deploy it. Take no prisoners if the shit hits the fan. Stealth exfill and keep your mouth shut.

Yeah...we have Fentanyl problem up here in Northern Canada. The Police issue warnings to people, that they wipe down their own Shopping Carts at the Grocery stores, cause addicts, who touch the grocery cart push bars, leave that shit on there and have poisoned innocent shoppers.
It's good that you actually confronted a potential problem and stayed vigilant as opposed to being passive and assuming those homeless folks would leave you alone.
Not everyone should own or use firearms unless they are comfortable. I signed up for a membership at a range so I could relearn what my parents and friends taught me 40 years ago.
I went primitive camping along the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park a few years ago with my girlfriend. Our camp was about 75 yards from the river. About 2a.m., my girlfriend woke me up because she heard boot steps on the rocks outside our tent. I immediately sprang up, grabbed my Glock 19, a large flashlight and started searching. Didn't find anyone, but the area down by the river was heavily wooded with lots of drops, perfect for someone to hide. I eventually went back to the tent and we settled in again. After about 15 mins, we started hearing huge splashes in the river like someone was throwing big rocks into the water every minute. After about 15 minutes of this, I grabbed the pistol and flashlight and went down to the river once again. Didn't spot anyone. This time I yelled out in english and broken spanish that I would not hesitate to shoot anyone sneaking up on our camp. I went back to the camp and settled in once again. No more issues the rest of the night. The next morning, I looked into the Mexican side of the river and it looked like desert scrub for miles. Likewise, when we drove out, there were no signs of anyone camping within miles of our location so no idea who would have been prowling around our camp. I hate to think what may have happened if I was not armed.
Absolutely we are armed to the teeth on every single trip and the military officers were totally fine with us packing and said they would do the same thing. I couldn’t tell that part so I showed the other option for those that are afraid of firearms
You were smart to head off the threat away from your base camp..no need to have the bad guys assess your defenses or supplies. What I would do also when approaching that threat, especially as you guys approached it in a group ,is to have one or two guys lag behind and observe/cover the ones actually going to do the talking..you guys had things in your favor..good job
The anger I feel from this country having a fentanyl issue where kids and people doing their jobs are in 100 percent danger when they don’t want to be around that stuff Is indescribable. Thank you for your service in getting that human garbage off the streets.
I know a few lawyers that would disagree with you. When you're in a "gun free zone" the proprietor of that area IS responsible for your safety. Unless of course the proprietor IS the US Government, then you are on your own. The government is not responsible for anything. If they were the border would be secure and criminals would be disarmed, not honest citizens.
In regards to your suggesting the Byrna ...and 'axes, machetes, knives' as legal protection at the airforce campground... Please note this excerpt: “Weapons include firearms, knives with blades longer than 5 1/2 inches, self-defense agents - such as pepper spray and stun guns - martial arts weapons and various devices capable of firing projectiles - such as paintball guns, bows and arrows, BB guns, blow guns, slingshots, blank cartridge pistols, straight razors, etc. Incidentally, I justed telephoned security forces (air force police) at Eglin Campground where you stayed and they confirmed that you cannot have the Byrna at the campground or on air force property.

Absolutely!
Been camping in public forests and national parks for over 50 years, never felt unsafe or taken a firearm in my life. But I live in Australia. 🦘🇦🇺
Yep repeating crossbow is good too and dogs.
Absolutely
Which bear spray do you like?
I like your style. Avoid public campgrounds if at all possible and don't advertise.
I’ve heard people still get some backspray from bear sprays and can incapacitate themselves along with the bear or attacker. Apparently the gel bear sprays are way better, more precise and little to no backspray.
Just my two cents, for what it’s worth… which is uhm, apparently two cents.
Not Self defense advice, WASP spray is a bigger can & even hornets hate it.
I’ve solo camped since the 1970s. In the 1990s I took several multi-state trips, solo camping without any incidents except a bear sniffing my tent at 3 am.
The world has changed. I never camp alone now.
It’s definitely different!
Sad 😢

As a forester we were cautioned about approaching remote camps - often grow operations or chem labs brewing bad drugs. We just never knew who or what we may run into. Safe travels you all.
Thanks so mush and the same to you!
I wish you well, but I also remember it's your forestry bosses that won't let me have a gun to protect my family while on National Park land. We used to be more concerned about dangerous critters, frankly. But now they want us to camp out there unarmed while knowing there may be a meth lab holed up nearby? Geeze... Thank your bosses for me. lol
That is not the case at all…the FEDERAL government wants that.
I go camping to enjoy myself not intercept and get in other people's business
I read so many comments on camping forums from people who do not believe this situation can happen. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching and glad you were safe
Not having a firearm when camping? That’s like not having water! Glad y’all were aware and proactive. Damn fentanyl is everywhere.
Yessir I agree....it's like American Express you never leave home without it!
Yeah that’s why California is hard to protect yourself. Illegal to carry a firearm. Go to prison if you’re caught with it. But you’ll be killed if you’re caught without it
I know thats right, every law biding citizen should carry a weapon of self defense.
Bear spray
Because it’s cheap and readily available.
Exactly! Very Well Said!

Take a careful look at the independent Byrna reviews. If the assailant is wearing a thick fluffy jacket, none of the ammo the Byrna uses will have any effect.
@@torinkoski8879 it will if you get a head shot or leg shot.

Great message of awareness. Thank you. Stay armed, stay safe 👊 🇺🇸
Thanks for watching and stay safe!
Sad world.
Stay armed and alert for sure! It is sad!
I camp with my family in NM… what campground were you at?
Have you seen recently the amount of people shot and killed in Colorado on the hiking trails? It’s insane!
There are large populations of black bears living in pretty close proximity to people, they're generally ok. Grizzlies terrify me, I was thinking about getting a camper shell setup to give me a little protection in grizzly country. The idea of sleeping in a tent in Grizzly country spooks me.
Unfortunately lunatics are everywhere now. Nowhere is safe.
Great situational awareness!
I used to camp alone, now days you take your life in your hands. A single camper alone at night is a target.
Absolutely!
Grow a pair. I camp alone all the time in California. Just be prepared and don't act like a target. Be the Alpha
Thank you for the good advice MoonGlow. When you are sound asleep at night you are vulnerable for sure.
If you camp in a truck that will buy you time .
How many people actually get attacked ?
Good tip! Last time I camped, my full cooler was taken, later that night, I ended up pulling a knife on a guy who came into my tent uninvited. In retrospect, perhaps I should have left after the cooler theft? It was a red flag that I ignored.
That absolutely was a red flag! Next time get stab happy!
Oh, heavens no I don't carry.'
Of course I carry in bear country too, but 99 percent of the time if you encounter an aggressive bear, you've done one or multiple things wrong, or, you're out during the wrong time of the season.
It’s always better to ask forgiveness than permission lol! I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6
Can't go wrong with 12 Guage and trusty G19👍
12 gauge shotgun is only a close quarters of 6 to 10 feet . WOW... thanks for the video.
Hey thanks so much for watching and don’t let it deter you from getting out there.
There's nothing wrong with solo camping as long as you have a weapon and a couple of alarms that bark and bite.

All of those are great practices, we do all of the same. Typically my tactical light is attached to my Heckler & Koch so I’m always ready.

That sounds sketchy as hell! Good job getting out of there!
Thank you so much for this info. I've never heard of a Byrna before. Getting one as soon as possible!!
Nice thanks for watching!
Absolutely right that it is our own responsibility to protect ourselves and family. Even the police are not obligated to protect us, that’s been proven by at least 3 Supreme Court rulings. Their weapons are for their own protection.
Agreed
Yup police have no duty to protect the citizens.
Police are the muscle of the state, the police are not our friends.
Police only enforce city code. That is their only purpose.

Right now, in gun free camping zones, I have an old Tippman paint ball gun set at 405 fps. with a 14 in. barrel. Works great on coyotes. With that said, I still have my EDC. I'll never go without it. Especially on land my taxes pay for.
Absolutely we all had the real thing as well!
Absolutely!
Absolutely! We even have a shower gun for my wife!

The officers are going to be fine. They didn’t have “Fentanyl poisoning”.

Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
And when it’s not enough?… Glock 19. When seconds count the police are only minutes away.
They had no business asking the guy anything. This is a free country.
@@u.s.a.satire5982 WRONG….the base had already told us that we were the only group on the property that we would have the whole place to ourselves
People, been seeing more and more of these kinds of stories lately. Have fun out there!
Yep it's getting crazy! Thanks for watching!
@@DownSouth_Adventures did you ever get an update on those officers?
@@DownSouth_Adventures "Let's go Brandon, I agree."
I appreciate you sharing your story. Some fools pulled a gun and robbed people hanging out at a beach bonfire in San Diego a year or two ago. So literally no where is safe anymore!
Wow! Yep that is why we ALWAYS carry regardless of policy.
@@DownSouth_Adventures And I am saying that the Constitution recognizes that "self defense" is a God given right. I would go further to say that at least in CA you are allowed to use whatever means necessary to defend yourself and others.
I'm not a lawyer and you still could go to jail and possibly get sued by the "victim".
@@jaminova_1969 that's why you make sure there is no left to sue if you have to defend yourself lol
Another option - Raid "Wasp and Hornet Killer" It's an aerosol that comes in a Black Can. The main reason I suggest this is it sprays a stream that goes for 20 feet. And, it really works...especially when it gets in their eyes!
Absolutely I still prefer a firearm, but in a pinch that will definitely work
@@DownSouth_Adventures Absolutely...Sam Colt gave us the great equalizer, nothing compares.
That could have went weird in a hurry ... nice job handling the situation
Absolutely!
Great video. Glad everyone is safe. Hope the officers are okay.
When the federal police came to clean up the area, they let us know the officers spent the night in the hospital but were fine that morning.
Good on ya for calling 911 and following their advice. Continuing on your vigilante style investigation into the dark unknown could have gone extremely bad for you in so many ways.
Eh we were prepared for the easy way and hard way but either way he chose none of us were in any danger.
Exactly. I wanted to neutralize the situation, but I was outvoted so we had to call the police.
There was a time I was crazy enough to hike and even camp without a firearm. Not anymore.. can't believe I used to camp like that, bad idea. The number of druggies, psychos and crazy people has skyrocketed
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
Thanks to the cartels, illegal immigrants invasion, it's going to get worse.
Anyone who causes anyone to even accidentally have fentanyl poisoning should be charged with attempted murder.
While we’re not sure which drug caused it, I agree
Just so you know - my moment of subscribe was the shinobi line. Perfect. Love the idea of mixing up those projectiles to create a cocktail of pain.
Lol thanks so much!
I would never camp without the real thing...wife and I always take pistols and keep an SBR within arms reach. Unfortunately camping isn't safe like it was "back in my day" and I've had too many strange things happen to take chances with my life and those around me
We were actually all packing the real thing. I only wanted to show this as an option for those who can’t, or won’t own a real firearm.
Wow as a single woman camping by my self, I was thinking about my safety today as I was doing research on gun laws in other states. I think that non lethal gun might do the trick for me. Thanks for the information.
Hey thanks so much for watching and I’m glad that it got you thinking about your safety out there.
You have to think of your safety. Everyone does.
Absolutely!@@helened6896
Get a kember peper spray gun the best
There's actually a new model being introduced at shot show that is supposed to be amazing!@@lanevanderwaal1234
I will never go camping with out my pups. They can hear things we can’t. They are like human alarm clocks haha
lol good call!
Jesus - you guys are vigilant! I'm impressed.
Some of us thrive on situations like this lol
I could never go camping without a gun. There's just to many crazy people and dangerous animals in the woods. But I don't really have to worry about people cause I'm usually way out in the woods and not on trails.
We never do as well!
My daughter's used to think it was funny that I never went camping without a pistol under my pillow. Now that they're older they understand.
Absolutely!
Protecting yourself means:
Situational awareness at all times. Planning multiple course of action if the What If occurs. Adequate firepower with a good base knowledge of how and when to deploy it. Take no prisoners if the shit hits the fan. Stealth exfill and keep your mouth shut.
I couldn't agree more!
So basically counter-ambush hit and run? Wouldn't that make you look like the guilty party if people/authorities catch wind? Genuine question
@@bestmantoday
Being prepared doesn't mean being preemptive. The problem with the average person these days. Is they have been brainwashed into believing. That you can only react to a crime. Not be prepared for it. Which counters the concept of training training training. And without repeated training. When stuff happens. Your response to it is slow, or not at all. Don't be fooled by the popular position of society. Being ready doesn't make you the aggressor. It just makes you prepared.
Great video! Always make sure you are prepared for any situation. You never know when you will have to take action to protect yourself.
Absolutely
Yea i always have a firearm on my person and a second hidden in my Jeep . I simply dont go where fire arms are prohibited . Because 90% of the time the bad guys dont follow the rules and are armed . And as my grand pap used to say “Better to have and not need than need and not have” .. so yea im always armed👍
That's always been my motto as well :)
Yea same i carry all the time. One on my one in the jeep. Knives too
Yeah...we have Fentanyl problem up here in Northern Canada.
The Police issue warnings to people, that they wipe down their own Shopping Carts at the Grocery stores, cause addicts, who touch the grocery cart push bars, leave that shit on there and have poisoned innocent shoppers.
Wow….that’s terrible!
What is it like a powder or something!?
@@Little_Sidhe yes and it can go airborne
Omg!
Well me personally I’m protecting myself anywhere I go with the “Constitutional Republic”. To be more clear the 2nd Amendment 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ditto!
It's good that you actually confronted a potential problem and stayed vigilant as opposed to being passive and assuming those homeless folks would leave you alone.
Absolutely and thanks for watching!
Firearms actually SAVE many more lives than they take.
we were all carrying firearms except for 1 guy had the byrna so I thought I would show it for those who are afraid of Firearms
Two of us were actually hidden in the darkness, as we got closer they came in from the sides and lit him up with lights.
The anger I feel from this country having a fentanyl issue where kids and people doing their jobs are in 100 percent danger when they don’t want to be around that stuff Is indescribable. Thank you for your service in getting that human garbage off the streets.
Thanks so much for the kind words
Thank joe
Cops and military industrial complex bring in heroin and fentanyl. Ponzi scheam
Wow! Thank you for sharing. I've not been camping in a long while and considering it this summer. Your video was so very helpful. God bless you all.
Hey, thanks so much for the kind words Rachel stay safe out there and enjoy all of the beauty of this planet!
Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.
1000% correct sir....I have to be PC for the youtubes lol
@@DownSouth_Adventures Understood. We are of like mind in many ways. ✌
I’d rather be judged by 13 then carried by six!
The one proverb I learned as a Security Policeman in the Air Force was, he hoo go to bed wiff itchy bumbum, wakeewakee wiff stinky finga.
Those are good words to live by!
Funny thing is that they loved the byrna and were also fine with the real thing and said they’d never go into any wilderness without a firearm.
