I loved this series as a teen. I hope Netflix doesn't do it's usual butchering of all their series! I think the message in it, however flawed the books are, is extremely prevalent today. So many people are becoming botched or alike in the pursuit of "beauty."
I agree! it has an important message but the execution was poorly done. I have not watched the Netflix adaptation because I don't know if yall would want a reaction video from me after already watching this video.
I feel like I kinda have to do it for the other books in the series. I just requested the pretties from my library so when I get it I will do another plot breakdown! 😁
Even though the release of the movie was delayed for a couple years, even in the early 2020’s it’s such an odd choice to adapt Uglies because like,,, the social commentary just hasn’t been relevant for years. It was already heavy-handed and not subtle when it came out but now when there’s so much more to dig into with regards to looks, lookism, body image, the commodification of self care by the beauty industry, the normalization of elective plastic surgery, the whole “you’re not ugly you’re just poor” thing,,, this book just offers such such a shallow critique of beauty standards and vanity
I kinda think I need to react to the movie after making this video! I have a lot of videos coming down the pipeline so it may be a while before I do it!
Thanks for doing this! It's been forever since I actually read the series. Looking forward to watching the next videos about the book series 😊

I read the graphic novel from Shay's point of view and it made me realize thats how it should have been in the OG, who made Tally the MC.
Omg I didn’t even know there was a graphic novel
i vaguely remember liking pretties more than uglies, so i hope you do a follow-up video!! watching this was so nostalgic for me lol

The message of this book is deeply flawed and after have read the sequel I think this series should have stayed in the drafts
Please react to the adaptation I would love to hear your opinions❤
