Is there anyone else whose voice has the emotion and tone of Irene Cara? This live vocal performance is extremely difficult. She’s the best. I love a lot of diverse music but it doesn’t really get much better than this in the popular music arena. In a way this is how she’ll always be remembered, absolutely perfect.❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I don't think it's live here because singers rarely sang live on Solid Gold due to technical reasons I believe. Cara sang it live here and she was perfect! ruclips.net/video/Bp515cDf5DI/видео.html
As a side note, the date of broadcast states October 11, 1980 on the introduction, then after clicking the more link, it went to an airdate of October 11, 1981. Since Peaches and Herb were the introduction guests with Dionne Warwick as host, I know that they were on the October 11, 1980 show with Dionne with their song "Funtime". So, I know that this was from 1980, the year of the movie "Fame" and of the arrival of the famous show called "Solid Gold". Excellent arrangement, Michael Miller!!! Soft, tender, beautiful, wistful all together in one arrangement it turned out to be.
@@bigeyezzzzzzz Thank you. I remembered that Peaches and Herb had appeared with Dionne Warwick on an earlier upload you had posted singing the song "Funtime", from October 11, 1980 and the attire they were wearing was the same in this upload, otherwise I might have missed it. Thanks again for the clarification and these two new uploads from "Solid Gold", as it is good to have nostalgia and a fitting tribute to the show and Irene Cara, especially, since that was her other major song from the "Fame" movie and applicable to not just the youthful beginnings, but also life at any age where love and loss is involved. That had a similar theme in the instrumental theme from the 1983 movie "Terms Of Endearment", which, correct me if I am wrong, had Michael Gore involved as the composer as well. He really knew how to cover so many human emotions in both songs, especially in this upload.
I'll never understand what happened to the career of the late Miss Cara. She was such a talent, a consummate professional from childhood on - long before “Fame” - but something happened after “Flashdance” (another world-wide smash hit), don’t know what. Thanks for uploading!
I wrote a book on Irene Cara's life called Cinderella Superstar: Remembering Irene. Irene went through a legal battle with her record company Network Records. She sued to get her royalties for her songs like Flashdance...What a Feeling. While Irene won her lawsuit, it took a grueling 8 years for her suit to reach a verdict since her lawsuit was 'stayed' a dozen times by the Court. She had to get new lawyers in 1991 after discovering that that had been subverted by Network Records since they had done legal work for them. Al Coury Inc. (of Network Records) funneled all of the money from his/their bank account and declared bankruptcy. Irene didn't receive a penny and had drained her savings paying lawyer fees during those awful years. Her emotional and financial struggles led to a divorce and she retreated to Europe to start over. Al Coury had also ruined her reputation during those years by writing threatening letters to other record companies, telling them that no on should sign her to another record contract. Her 1987 album Carasmatic was shelved after 1 week of release by Court order. It took Irene 30 years to buy back the masters. She independently financed her own record called Irene Cara Presents: Hot Caramel, released in April 2011. I highly recommend listening to it. She worked on it for 10 years. She was a messenger of love. ❤🔥
Her cut from the song Flashdance was approx. $ 3 million dollars. The head of her record label pocketed that money and paid Irene $ 183 dollars. Her contract with him stated that he would get half. He was not content with that and stoled her half as well. When she sued him for the $ 1.5 million owed to her, he went to work for David Geffen and got Geffen to blacklist her from music and movies. She was unable to get any work and was broke. Her original attorneys sued Network Records, which was a shell company. Like the con man he was, he emptied it out of the assets prior to the trial and then put the company in bankrucy when he lost, so she never received the money she was awarded by the jury. She did however stop the theft and got her future royalties which is what she lived off of. The experience gave her psychosis and she moved to Florida to be near her mother.
@@AnimeFan5 you said $3 million dollars...I think it was A LOT more than that. Flash-dance was ONE of the biggest hits of the 80's. and ONE of the biggest hits of all time. remember, it was a song Irene co-wrote too. so, we are talking artist royalties for singing it/sales. and writers' royalties on record sales too...Irene's lawsuit against that record company back in 1985/86. was $10 million dollars. my baby got screwed, BIG TIME!!!
Thank you very much for uploading a very young 21-year-old named Irene Cara, who recently passed from this mortal coil called life and this suspended orb called Earth that has the best and the worst and everything in between. Irene was part of the best, the best of singers, a vivacious entertainer and dancer and actress, who presented a combination of beauty and positivity combined with realism and always ending on a positive note, musically and otherwise. Irene was a child star who bloomed into a beautiful young woman and talent that helped usher in the 1980s and was the first guest, if I recall correctly, on the September 13, 1980 premiere episode of the nascent "Solid Gold" series, singing her hit song, "Fame", of which included pyrotechnics as well. Here, we have a very quiet, nearly plaintive song, "Out Here On My Own", with Irene Cara getting into a nearly "cautious" rendition of a song about a beginning on one's own, much as she was in real life at the tender age of 21, an age, that which many are beginning to take the baby steps toward being on their own, more in 1980 than currently because of societal changes, but nonetheless a song that was a good match for a 21-year-old starlet singer. Irene Cara recently left this world too soon, in my opinion, at the age of 63. To paraphrase her "Fame" song, I hope that she"made it to heaven and lit up the sky like a flame. Godspeed, Itene. You certainly lit up many lives here on Earth. Your legacy is secure. Thank goodness it is preserved on video and the quality is excellent.
@@bigeyezzzzzzz I know that Irene had been a frequent guest as I had seen many, but not all, of her performances on "Solid Gold". Her radiant personality and vibrant energy came through the television. She exuded positivity and good cheer in every appearance.💙💙💙🎶🎶🎶🎼🎵
simply, beautiful...and she was singing LIVE. what a talent, and beauty. RIP Irene. I have been in LOVE with you since the early, early 80's.
Perfection. RIP😢
SO TALENTED AND BEAUTIFUL
Я только сегодня узнал, о том что была такая талантливая певица. Я многое потерял.
One of Irene Cara's best.

Beautifully stated, sir. We had Irene on the show many times, and she was such a sweetheart (and a super-talent) at all times..🎶💙🎶

Beautiful
I miss u ....my love...4 ever
a super star, that's all

I believe TV guide advertised Chevy Chase as the co-host that week. Perhaps he did not show up and was replaced by Peaches and Herb.
One of the best singers and performers of all time. But the record company crooks stole her money then black balled her from the industry.
What a big injustice to her. She was an amazing singer songwriter. One of the Best female voices ever IMO. May she be at peace now.
