It's a shame these guys weren't more widely known from this lineup. There was a magic in the Olson/Louris version of the Jayhawks. I still like them to this day but this was something really special. Not a phone in sight, people living in the calm before the storm.
Was just reading a tribute to the 400 bar on the West Bank in minneapolis. Used to kind of live there and the Jayhawks were regulars. Late 80's early 90's?!! I don't remember much 😄 Still much loved band in Mpls. I miss Mark Olsen and those signature harmomies, but Gary's voice is great as ever.
Not sure exactly when I discovered the Jayhawks but it certainly was a good bit later than 95, I’d guess between 2005 and 2010. I had been listening to a pretty good radio station in Chicago and heard a few songs and became a fan!
This is from 95? Good heaven time slipped away so fast I saw them in Berlin same year. They played two sets and in the break I had a drink with the guy with the glasses, talking about his Gibson SG. Great intimate concert in a small venue with these nice lads and the lady.
What happened to this band? Caught them live in Portland , OR right around this juncture. Set list was tight from start to finish but when Gary and Mark exited stage they were arguing like wet cats on verge of trading blows.
Mark left the band shortly after this time. Don’t know the inner details. Mark was the founder of the band. He was married to Victoria Williams at the time and left to be with her. They made a few records together called the Original Harmony Creekdippers. Gary continued on with the band to this day. Mark came back for one recording in 2011. I just saw them live for the umpteenth time Last week in St Paul and they were still wonderful. They have withstood the test of time.
He’s the one who turned me on to the band in 1992! Long story, short, I met him in Little Rock, Arkansas at a wedding rehearsal dinner for my aunt and to be uncle. He had played drums in a band for my uncle for a while… They were good buddies. Needless to say at the dinner, I said across from them because they were the cool guys. He talked about this band that he was in, and I heard them on the radio probably not even a week later when the DJ said the name of the band I recognized it and the song was Waiting for the Sun. I was sitting in my truck in a bowling alley parking lot waiting for my younger cousins to come out and I loved it so I bought the album and being 16 years old at that time I had bought a lot of cassettes/and really only like a few songs on them. There were some exceptions. I mean, I already loved Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin… Hell, I loved every song that Guns N’ Roses had put out. But I bought Hollywood town hall and it was the greatest album I had ever hired never. I discovered a lot of really good music, after the Jayhawks became my all-time favorite band and forever will be.
He was gone by this time. He was the person who actually turned me onto this band. I met him in Little Rock, Arkansas at a wedding… My aunt was marrying the person who would become my uncle. Ken was the drummer and a band or two with my uncle. Actually, it was the wedding rehearsal dinner where I met him. They were the cool guys so, I said across from them at the dinner. I was 16. Ken mentioned this band that he was in and I remembered the name and then not even a week later I heard waiting for the Son on the radio and recognize the name of the band whenever the DJ said who it was. So I went out and bought it and loved every song, went back and bought blue then somewhere between buying the albums after Ohlsen left I found the bunkhouse album… Loved them all. Still do. Still my all-time favorite band.

The Jayhawks are such an amazing band and this performance really shows that. Thank you for posting!
Mark Olsen and Gary Louris have that combo of voices that is pure chemistry magic!
"Tomorrow the green grass" years... awesome document!!!
Gary is the best I ever saw as a musician. Unbelievable singer, guitar player…

Saw you live at the TLA South Street Philadelphia after buying a few CD. Always enjoyed your music. Great songs! Classic! Thank you.
I remember my wife and I buying this CD when it came out. GR8 TUNES 😅

Great story, Terry. What a memory to have…👍🎸
That would be Gary Louris who continued the band after Mark Olson the other lead left the band shortly after this 1995 record release.
I was in the audience.
Beautiful, thank you.
Hey you Happy St Patrick's Day 🍀🍀🍀
