    This worked for me to repair my D5000 flash not firing. I fixed it on 7-6-2015. Please note that my flash did pop up originally it just didn't fire when up and this fixed that problem. Please note, when removing the back cover I somehow dislodged the tension spring on the opposite side that controls the actual pop up of the flash. It was not easy for me to get this back in the correct place, but my husband who is more mechanically inclined than I was able to get it back and then camera works great. (If your flash will not pop up at all, maybe this spring has come loose...just a thought for those of you with that problem). Also for those who asked about screw driver I used a very very tiny Phillips head (maybe like the kind you use for eyeglasses. You also had to go in at an angle from below for screwdriver to catch. Thanks for saving me $300!!!

    what I found that helps keep the fix permanent is to use sewing thread and tie the top metal peice snug onto the little plastic lug and also tie the wire bundle together at two different locations. it's worked now for me for a while now. no issues. the electrocution isn't fun tho lol. I touched it a few time and got a few good jolts. the capacitor stays energized even without the battery in. lol

    if
    If you have trouble getting a philips head to grip the screw head try a very small flat head screw driver, worked for me.

    What was the initial problem. The flash did not pop up or did not light up? Mine pops out but doesn't go off. I'm wondering if this would work, before I open it :) Thanks!

      I went to a camera repair shop in my place and the technicians findings is that, flash/power supply module/board is broken and needs to be replaced. I saw the same board at ebay.

    Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Don't think I have the exact same problem, as our flash on a D5200 will not open. I think the actuator is stuck, because we can't get the flash to open up. It flashes, but sounds terrible (like a big ZAP!) because it flashes while it's closed. The camera is only a few months old, so we'll probably call Nikon. Just wanted to do a little research first. Any ideas?

      Eric LaPrad Hello Eric, my D5100 is firing closed...would you fill me in on what was causing yours and any tips on how to repair?
      Thanks - Craig

      Had to send it back to Nikon to get it repaired. Parts were too small and intricate for me to work on. Good luck with yours. I hope it's still under warranty otherwise it may cost more than what it's worth to you. Maybe time to upgrade.

  • @pringles001
    @pringles001 8 лет назад

    For those who made it, what size of screw driver did u use.
    I cant get that screw out. it is so tight. i used PH000 size, and i am afraid, broke when i was trying so hard to pull that screw out. imight try other scress driver. it is a tough thing to so with this really small screw. i cant even see if it is X or | screw driver i ahve to use. Nikon d90 built in flash problem.
