I am old enough to remember when TCM came on against the established AMC in 1994. Memo to Warner Discovery: Don't let TCM become "The Walking Dead", as AMC became. If you forget your history, you'll forget yourself. The industry, as we knew it, is dissolving; much like those nitrocellulose films we can no longer see. TCM prevents that. Keep it going.

As long as they don't have to cave to advertising dollars, it sounds like they will be able to keep to their core principal
Thanks for all you folks have done over the years. TCM has been critical to my development as a film fan from a very young age. This type of authorship has always been so important.
About 9 years ago I went to a screening of Dodsworth and Mr Robert Osborne was the guest speaker. He was older and walked slower but his mind was sharp and his stories were so amazing. I must admit that I recorded most of his interview on my phone (even though it said on the ticket that it wasn’t allowed) but I knew he didn’t have too much time left, so I don’t regret it one bit, I deeply admired Mr Osborne for introducing me to so many movies that I never watched before, the way he presented each movie and the little stories behind the scenes captivated me. Rest in Peace Mr Osborne thank you for sharing your movie knowledge with newer generations like me.
So many great movies and amazing actors we never would have seen. And all the background intros, the documentaries and a chance to really watch those iconic moments in film. TCM has hugely increased awareness of the need for film preservation. Thank you TCM.
TCM is a selective classic network. They mostly show films that they own. You will not know who Tyrone Power was about or any other actors who did not contract with its owned studios. Therefore, the public never knows about the wealth of talent from other studios.
@@Rubi-ll8ssselective classic network? no. I have seen plenty of Tyrone Power movies, all of those being on TCM. TCM is my favorite - but I would really love a TCM streaming only service - I would totally pay for it as a stand alone - because I don't pay for cable. Please make it streaming!
Sadly, I cut the cable years ago, so now I've gone the Criterion Channel route to make up for the loss of TCM. A monthly streaming app for TCM would be a welcome addition. The times, they are a changin'.
Was hooked on TCM from the moment my cable provider made it available in 1997. So great to see so many familiar faces of TCM people I’ve met at their film festivals and cruises - both in front of and behind the camera. Happy 30th Birthday TCM ! 🎂May you always continue to inspire ! ❤💋❤
When I 1st discovered TCM-I was totally enthralled with it. I remember calling my mom and telling her about TCM. We didn't know how long it would be around. We thought maybe it was just last for a couple months. So, my mom started taping the channel during the day & i would tape in the evening. We had so many TCM tapes between us- it was crazy. I still love TCM as much as I did when I 1st started watching it. It's the best station that ever was.
This year the network did not play their annual Dr. Kildare Marathon. What a shame. Metro's B Unit was the bread and butter to the Metro Studios. What a shame that TCM forgot to play the Kildare Series.
Aside from Dr. Kildare series and the early noir Fingers at the Window, Lew Ayers talent was wasted at MGM by placing him some very awful movies such as the Ice Capades of 1939.
I remember the day in 1997 I went to Radio Shack and dropped $700.00 for a DirecTV satellite dish just so that I could have Turner Classic Movies. I was there for the premiere of TNT in 1988, and that was fantastic. But, TCM was phenomenal. From 1997 to 2005, I truly was in "Movie Heaven." Letterboxing was a big deal to people like me who couldn't afford laserdiscs, which were frequently letterboxed as opposed to VHS which typically were not. The shorts and trailers and bumpers and "words of mouth" ensured every broadcast moment was entertaining.
My cable company (Spectrum) priced TCM out of my budget. It's one of the reasons I am considering cutting the cable. I wish there was a way where I could just pay a subscription to TCM because I would SO DO THAT!!!
The movie collection that I have, in terms of physical copies, was largely put together because of TCM. They inspired me to take a closer look at titles that I had only just heard of. And for that, I thank them.
Please go back to the intro (that was at the beginning of this video). I loved those old intros. I've watched TCM from the beginning. I love the movies you show without commercials. Hope you're on for another 30 years. Without commercials, of course.
I remember all those great intros. There was something comforting about seeing the old ones again, but I remember the excitement of seeing a new one as well. Good times.
I am so grateful for Turner Classic Movies. I don't have cable anymore, but I follow this RUclips channel. My love of classic movies inspired my theatre career, and still does. People tell me I'd make a wonderful TCM host. I hope I can at most, audition.
I was almost 21 when this channel launched, and maybe the only person in my age-group of friends who was excited, because I was brought up on old movies, the classic black and whites that you could only catch very late Friday or Saturday night as the Friday/Saturday Night Movie on TV. Being in Atlanta meant we would get this new channel earlier than most, though I think it was still another year before our specific cable provider added it to the lineup. When I had my own apartment in 2000 and no one to fight over control of the TV with, money was tight, so I did without cable for about a year. But then I remembered...Erroll Flynn's birthday was coming up, and that meant I had a reliable place to go where I could record The Sea Hawk and Captain Blood and The Adventures of Robin Hood and Elizabeth and Essex and more of his films, especially the swashbucklers, WITHOUT COMMERCIALS, so I didn't have to be home in order to get them on tape finally (because there was a lot of old films I wanted that just weren't available on VHS at that time, and this was back when Amazon just sold BOOKS). So I went down to the apt. management office and said to yes, go ahead and add cable to my rent, please, and when would it be hooked up? Then I went to the store and dipped into my budget to buy a 10-pack of 8-hour VHS tapes, because after Erroll Flynn day, there was Maureen O'Hara, and before either of them there were going to be Katharine Hepburn and John Wayne and Rosalind Russell... I loved that certain stars I always enjoyed had an entire day set aside to focus on their films, or when they might get 2 films a night spread over a week shown in their honor. And then ofc there was the fantastically gorgeous Gone With The Wind, which as an Atlanta native I was obsessed with as a teen. I was a Star Wars girl who was also in love with classic films, whose first ever star crush was Guy Williams in Disney's Zorro TV series, but Cary Grant ran him a VERY close second. As someone who adored costumes, particularly the looks of the 30s and 40s when jazz was still huge and the Big Band Sound was all the rage, classic movies spoke to me, DEEPLY, and TCM was addictive for me. To this day, I still have a large collection of recorded-from-TCM films sitting in a box...I just have no way to watch them, lol. Thank you TCM for being here for the last 30 years, and please don't ever stop.
Turner Classic Movies was the greatest cable TV movie channel ever. They have RKO, MGM and Warner Bros. movies and they also have other studio movies like Disney, 20th Century-Fox, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures including Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures titles.
@@ArpiChatalian They can't show movies they don't own or license. Turner doesn't own the Paramount Library. They license certain movies but own the entire film libraries of certain studios only.
TCM can get many of the pre 1949 Library from Universal that owns the historic Paramount Library. The Paramount films show up on You tube frequently. Here are some great Paramount titles such as City Streets, Death Takes a Holiday and Peter Ibbetson and many more, which includes classic Claudette Colbert comedies such as The Gilded Lily and the fantastic Midnight that has a wonderful performance by John Berrymore.
Thank you for basically being a film school for me with Robert Osborne being my teacher. I remember cutting school many times to see a marathon of your channel and watch the best of the best of movies. Staying in on weekends to watch films sometimes too. Now as a grown up, people are still in awe of the vast film knowledge I have and I thank TCM for that. Cheers to the next 25 years! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
...for boomers, people who experienced these actors while they were still alive and possibly still performing, is priceless. In 2024, society is left w/the end product of their art presenting creative entertainment of eras past. I yearn for the past in a way...
Don’t yearn for something that is not coming back, yes it’s nice to remember it but we have to move forward and look at the nice things that the present has to offer us.
...im not as optimistic today as i was 20-30 years ago. The brutality in todays society has me remembering of how i never feared for the future, as i do today, something only 50+ years of life experience can provide.@@007Julie
God bless the people at TCM for having the best cable channel on earth. I keep hearing rumors that all of this might go away. And I prayed to God never never ever..
Unfortunately Turner Classic Movies cant be seen in New Zealand but i can buy some Turner Classic Movies on DVD. I enjoy alot of those Classic Movies and i also love new films too.
If we lived in NC most of the times when we watch the film "Popeye" on HBO and others, then we might grow up on Shelley Duval. She was stunning and wild in films for TCM like The Shining where her co-star, Jack Nicholson said in the line the way the late Ed McMahon said as he come out of the colorful curtain. "Heeere's Johnny" from the Tonight Show franchise Starring Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and then return again until Jimmy Fallon of SNL Fame step up when coming from out the blue curtain and on stage by an announcer. And when we learned that Shelley Duval has died the world is in shocked Wednesday. Duval was best for playing also Sissy Spacek's sister in what movie from 20th Century Fox, then landed a role in a King Features turned Paramount blockbuster, with Robin Williams. But in 1975m she a country star on stage in Nashville that made Keith Carradine become the next Jim Croce in this blockbuster before this 2010s TV Version for ABC. She appeared from Fairie Tale Classics to her last film about a mother who was at Catskill Mountain entered by Rico and his crew in The Forest Hills. In November of 2016, Dr. Phil told Duval about her mental illness that has kept her criticism herself in recent years. She had been struggling with complications of Diabetes and been vain for weeks. Duval died at her home in Blanco, Texas. She was 76 Years old. The Beginning of a beautiful Freindship read from the lines of the 1942 film Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. It was TCM's home of the films from the 20s to today and everybody participate in their 30th anniversary set at Warner Bros. Studio outside Hollywood. It was a TCM original aired just after Saturday Matinee and Musical Matinee and Noir Alley was over a month ago. More of their content and we see exclusives on their website and on youtube channel searching this week.
I'm so pleased to be celebrating 30 years of the best network on television. Thank you for everything you do. It's been a heck of a ride and it isn't over yet!
I recall late Friday night some years back when TCM had their bizzaro programming called UNDERGROUND. The feature one night was a late 60's gem that took me by surprise.... PUTNEY SWOPE. After watching this laugh riot of a film, I sought out a DVD copy to own at the now-gone J&R MUSIC WORLD near the World Trade Center in NYC. Still own the copy some 10 years later. Thanks TCM for introducing me to The Borman 6 Girl.... GOTTA HAVE SOUL!😂❤
PUTNEY SWOPE was a GR8 Indie Hit upon ReLease in my Highschool Yute with my Film Hipster Friend Charles Zornig lll & GR8 Family & Super Filmster/Movie Theater Expert little Bro David Z, Rush St area/(Viagra Triangle now) Chicago iL. Look at the full credits & see some future. Best, dtf (ask a Punk 0r HOZAC)
I hope that TCM starts to stream independently from cable companies. To access TCM you have to pay exorbitant cable fees only to watch TCM. Please go to streaming!!! It is the only channel I miss when cancelling my cable tv.
Happy 30th Anniversary! It was great to see Robert Osborne's movie intros yesterday on this anniversary celebration. I've been watching TCM for the entire 30 years and have attended several film festivals as well. Wouldn't it be great to see some of Robert's original introductions on the movies shown throughout the day which have no intros? Please consider showing some of these intros! I'm sure many fans besides myself would enjoy them! Thank you.
I didn't realize it at the time but I had started watching TCM from day one!! I was in my 30's and going through a very tough time in my life. I stumbled onto TCM by accident and fell in love. First as an escape from my pain getting to watch ALL of these FABULOUS old movies, then getting educated by the one and only Robert Osborne, the BEST educator I ever had!!! I do miss Robert BUT TCM has evolved into a steady, constant, comfort (still) in my life. Now I'm being educated by 5, each with special knowledge and talent only they can bring to my continued dedication of my FAVORITE channel on cable!!! FYI: I was shocked when I realized that I was one of the original viewers/fans of this incredible channel 30 yrs ago!!! Love still, Patty R. ✨💖✨
TCM changed my life, I'm from Brazil and I started with classic movies because of this channel, so I'm forever grateful. So sad that today I can't even see the site because I'm not from USA, but beautiful video ❤
1:15 I'm surprised it didn't say "fearless leader" for Ted. TCM is an amazing channel that has introduced me to so many great films throughout the years!
I LOVE TCM from when I first found it in the mid 90's it was the only reason why I would take cable on. I miss Robert Osborn so much, but he lives on 24/7 with TCM broadcasting. Along with all the other wonderfull hosts. The only thing I want to ask is Please start a streaming app. Just of what is currently playing on TCM at the time. cable is over $100 a month in Canada and all I want is TCM.. THANK YOU MR TURNER
The origins of TCM dates back to 1986 when Ted Turner acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) from Kirk Kerkorian. However, his debt load and other financial problems resulted Turner to sell MGM back to Kerkorian but retained the studio's film library - which comprised of MGM (pre-May 1986), Warner Bros. (pre-1948), and the North American distribution rights to RKO Radio Pictures. Thus, Ted Turner founded Turner Entertainment. Turner would use the acquired film libraries to launch its first basic cable network Turner Network Television (TNT) on October 3, 1988, with the 1939 Warner Bros. film "Gone with the Wind" being as the first program aired on the network. TCM was launched on April 14, 1994 at 6PM E.T., with Ted Turner launching the channel at a ceremony in New York City's Times Square district. The date and time were chosen for their historical significance as "the exact centennial anniversary of the first public movie showing in New York City". The late Robert Osborne launched TCM with "Gone with the Wind" as the first film aired on the network and the rest is history.
Love this channel. Furious at my cable provider for shuffling it off onto an extra tier with a series of sports channels, thus guaranteeing that I will not be a subscriber because I don't care about sports. Wish TCM was a streamer; I would jump on it like a puma on prey.
I love TCM. I watched it for many years. Sadly, when I cut cable years ago I could not watch it any longer. Why can’t I stream without a TV provider? That really stinks. Shame on you, TCM. The few services that carry it have in an expensive bundle with a lot of channels that I have no interest in watching. I’d pay for just TCM but don’t want all the other crap channels that are offered with it.
Will you also be posting all of the April 2024 Thursday night intros and outros witht those who make up a lot of the history of TCM? They've been terrific.
Happy Anniversary TCM! Here’s to Ted Turner and Robert Osborne! I love TCM but it could stand to be a little more romantic! Classic films are ROMANTIC! ❤ Happiest anniversary to the TCM family!
Longtime TCM fan. I've really learned a lot from the hosts' introductions, especially Eddie Muller's for Noir Alley. Have become quite a fan and look forward to it Saturday nights. One little tweak I'd appreciate is indicating whether or not a particular film will be available On Demand. Many a time I've missed out on a film that is rarely shown, because I thought it would be available to me later at a more convenient time. That said, I hope TCM lasts for at least another 30 years and I would certainly subscribe if it went to independent streaming.
TCM is best network for years with great movies, history stories studio 's,stars, producers and directors they all great stories want more. Now hope keep going on best old movies and memories history. Bad Warner Brothers take over by Discovery ceo David Z poor leaderships try kill TCM network that sad . TCM network hope last for ever.😊
I used to watch TCM as a 14 year old here in Poland through the Astra satellite. I barely I knew any English at the time, but loved those B/W images. Then TCM became TNT while still having a good selection of films through the day, now it's called Warner TV with old TV shows from 5AM to 8PM and a couple of mediocre movies from the 1990s nobody would even bother to watch. TV is dying I suppose...
I still love TCM, and I think the programming has remained solid (I appreciate the expansion of the movies into somewhat more current and obscure fare, while remaining true to the core of classics which is the networks’s bread and butter). But I dislike the graphic rebrand! What was once tied directly to TCM’s mission is now flat and generic… sigh! But the movies are the most important thing.
Then In 2017 This Channel Went To Shit After Robert Osborne Died Because Then They Started To Charge People To Watch This Shit Channel ~ And Sorry They Air The Same Damn Movies EVERY DAMN Month With Hardly Anything NEW ~ That's Why I WILL NEVER Pay For A Channel That Was Suppose To Be FREE FOR THE FANS TO ENJOY THE CLASSIC MOVIES AGAIN! They Day They Did That Robert Osborne Started To Roll In His Grave & He Hasn't Stopped Yet!
I don’t know about you but I remember when I had 30, 40 films in watch list. . Now about something in the teens. It seems tcm throws the same old carp up every other month or so. Seem to throw up a lot vids that are probably low rentals. Although thanks for the Brandon buffet. Nice sunrise. Other annoyances but I’ll let them go for now.

My cable system includes TCM only with the sports package. I do not watch sports at all but I do watch TCM everyday! 😅
I love TCM! ❤
Awesome Mesh, John ❤️Mellencamp🔥 & ❤️TCM❤️! Sweet Setlist! “Go Johnny Go”! ATBest, dtf 🕴🏻~(ask a Punk or HOZAC), Chicago iL
'is'...🥰
"is"
TCm does not acknowledge the importance of other studios films as vital and important.
paramount Studios had an anniversary that TCM disregarded.
TED Turner is a great visionary in creating TCM. 30 years strong ( 1994-2024). Great video 💯📸
...for boomers, people who experienced these actors while they were still alive and possibly still performing, is priceless.
Love your channel! So glad to watch the classics during Covid.
I miss Robert...
Agree!
We all miss Robert. 😢
Unfortunately Turner Classic Movies cant be seen in New Zealand but i can buy some Turner Classic Movies on DVD. I enjoy alot of those Classic Movies and i also love new films too.
Enjoyable always
In 2 Words; “The Best !”
My favorite channel ever GOAT . WISH they had an App FOR TCM. I miss it terribly. Cut cord 2 yrs ago
It's available on Hulu
Truly, the only reason I miss cable TV. I would love to have a streaming option. Such a great channel.
I hope that TCM starts to stream independently from cable companies. To access TCM you have to pay exorbitant cable fees only to watch TCM. Please go to streaming!!! It is the only channel I miss when cancelling my cable tv.
Boy I sure miss that old fanfare.
But have been watching for 30 yrs.
Thank you for posting this. I'm sorry I no longer have the TCM channel on my Comcast line up.
TCM is one of the reasons we still have cable. 🎉
I miss it more than any other channel since I cut the cable cord.
Simply, an electrically illuminated hearth.
Congratulations!🎉
My favorite Cable Channel along side Cartoon Network. Best Movie Channel to date.
TCM changed my life, I'm from Brazil and I started with classic movies because of this channel, so I'm forever grateful. So sad that today I can't even see the site because I'm not from USA, but beautiful video ❤
Love this channel wish they had even more variety of classic movies.
Thank you always TCM.
1:15 I'm surprised it didn't say "fearless leader" for Ted. TCM is an amazing channel that has introduced me to so many great films throughout the years!
Fearless Leader~Sweet, Bravo~a!
Gracias Turner Classic por Todo!!!.
Happy 30th Anniversary Turner Classic Movies!
Many thanks to Ted Turner thank you
My favorite channel ever.
I LOVE TCM MORE THAN I CAN EVER EXPRESS!!!!! THANK YOU ALL, and TED TOO! I meant MORE than you could EVER IMAGINE!!’ 😊
Happy 30th anniversary to TCM. May there be more to come.
I can see myself taking a picture at the Animal House screening during the 2018 TCM Film Festival!
My favorite channel. Hands down.
🎵🎶🥳🎶🎵🌹👍🏻✌🏻🇺🇲
TCM is truly a gift from the heavens. Thanks for sharing…!
Excellent channel!
I strongly agree it would out sell any other app I'm also a cord cutter
Hopefully one day they will offer a subscription without Live TV. I miss watching the channel.
Will you also be posting all of the April 2024 Thursday night intros and outros witht those who make up a lot of the history of TCM? They've been terrific.
Where else can you literally see 100 years of acting everyday, not to mention centuries of life
I member Cartoon Alley!
Bring back tcm underground plz thank uuu
TCM
🌎👍❤
Would you upload the launch of Turner Classic Movies from April 14, 1994?👍
Worst thing ever was British tv taking TCM off of the menu. I miss it
What was the comment about Osborne coming down the studio stairs and never doing it again?
Happy Anniversary TCM! Here’s to Ted Turner and Robert Osborne! I love TCM but it could stand to be a little more romantic! Classic films are ROMANTIC! ❤
Happiest anniversary to the TCM family!
I think they're minimizing the uproar that occurred when Turner starting colorizing the old black-and-white classics.
That’s my HBO
Longtime TCM fan. I've really learned a lot from the hosts' introductions, especially Eddie Muller's for Noir Alley. Have become quite a fan and look forward to it Saturday nights. One little tweak I'd appreciate is indicating whether or not a particular film will be available On Demand. Many a time I've missed out on a film that is rarely shown, because I thought it would be available to me later at a more convenient time. That said, I hope TCM lasts for at least another 30 years and I would certainly subscribe if it went to independent streaming.
HBD, TCM!
❤❤❤
I'll be at the festival in a few weeks.
LONG LIVE TCM!
I love TCM. Whatever happened to 'THE UNDERGROUND" on Friday nights? That is where you could see something really wacky and outrageous.
As a kid I despised this channel a lot, and as an adult, I wish I had TCM.
I don’t know about you
but I remember when
I had 30, 40 films in
watch list. . Now about
something in the teens.
It seems tcm throws the
same old carp up every
other month or so.
Seem to throw up a lot
vids that are probably
low rentals.
Although thanks for the
Brandon buffet.
Nice sunrise.
Other annoyances but
I’ll let them go for now.
Cable is dying. AMC relied on commercials and couldn’t sustain such a niche audience. TCM won’t change. It will just go away with the rest of cable.
