I'm happy with the Deck I bought at launch, but the improvements Valve have made in the OLED make me excited for what they have in store for the full upgrade later on. They're listening to the community's feedback, improving things like the battery life and screen rather than just going for power, and if they keep it up I'll be there day 1 for the gen 2 Deck.
They’re also honest, I liked that a lot, they talked about it’s limitations openly and said more than once that it’s not more powerful, just slightly more efficient
It is also fair to wait with the 2 for a decent bump in power while maintaining similar battery life
@@obvious_giraffe8386 Yeah, I was getting at phone / handheld companies who make significant battery sacrifices to squeeze out more performance
i’ve been thinking about getting one for ages, always thought the switch is enough for me but this makes me wonder even more. i’ll make a decision when the switch 2 comes out.
@@AlwaysCewing The funny thing is that it _is_ slightly better because of the increased memory bandwidth (which is important because it’s shared with the GPU), but they probably didn’t want people developing unrealistic expectations
In Sept 2022 I paid $684 for 512 gig version. I hardly used it. 2 days ago paid $583 and I ordered the OLED 512 gig version. My over spending is Valve’s gain.
lol i feel u same asf bro..
Why if You don’t use it? My deck made me stop use my gaming laptop, at least till I had to rma it because of the slow cpu bug.
You could end up playing it more, I had the same experience with the switch where I didn't like the play it as a handheld because the screen was a bit too small and didn't make games look really good compared to my TV. Once I got the Switch oled it made me want to play it as a handheld was more. I feel it's going to do the same with the deck for me.
@@valeblizmaybe some people just don't game that much that's why I barely use mine because I barely play videogames anymore
Same
You can't deny that the range of models and pricing is a great strategy. Valve is making sure that the Steam Deck is always a great choice no matter what your budget is.
That and it better be priced right, because they are better products out there. Steam deck is at the bottom of the barrel when it cubes to pc handhelds
not even close to bottom of the barrel. and there isn't a single handheld that performs better per watt in the lower TDP range@@redcrimson1028
I have an original 256GB model and will be looking to upgrade when i can afford it! The improved battery life, larger screen w/ less bezel, better polling rate on the trackpads and screen, and improved texture on the sticks, on top of having an OLED screen is a substantial upgrade to me and addresses all the minor gripes i have with the og.
Bought one last night! The refresh was tempting enough to make me finally pull the trigger. Now comes the long wait until it gets here.
Same here brother.
🙋🏻♂️ same same. Waiting in Aus
Mine should be here by Monday 😜
How long does it takes if you live in New York? I never bought one before from valve.
@@h.b.2847 Mine got here yesterday and I was dumbfounded
Great video, answered all my questions, especially my concerns around Matt display, thanks
Dude you're totally Ned from Spider-Man.
Fantastic job on reviewing the valve steam deck oled + keep up the incredible work on your videos
Thanks for the review Ken!
Good review love the videos man keep up the great work
I skipped the lcd deck. ordered a 512 oled deck within the first 30 min of them going live. checked this morning and said it shipped out
I loved my steam deck got it at launch. The only thing I wished was it had less bezel and an oled screen after I'd play some games on my oled switch. And VALVE answered my prayers
I've been enjoying my steam deck. It's helped me beat a lot of easier to run games from my back log and for those triple A games that are difficult to run I use remote play from my gaming pc. I'll definitely upgrade to the oled version next year.
I thought I could play Spiderman and God of War on it just fine?
I have the LCD one but I couldn’t resist to not get the base Oled version. 😊
I too.. Right now i thinking about buy one. And i have lcd 64gb version..I love this thing
you can remove the anti-glare to get better contrast by putting on a screen protector.
It still doesn't fully remove the matte finish tho. There are videos on this online. It helps but I rather get the glossy screen period.
I don't have a SteamDeck yet, but very tempted with OLED. I didn't buy it initially because I wanted to get an improved 2.0 version, not sure if I should wait 2-3 years for the next model or hop in with version 1.5.
I totally agree. I want to get a pc handheld so badly, espeically a steam deck, although I'm hesitant to buy it or not due to reviews and downside of triple AAA games 🤔. I'm not sure if I should buy it or wait for steam deck 2 or even another pc handheld 😔😮💨
I can't wait to get one!
my big concern with getting a steam deck is how long before the requirement floor of new releases exceed the performance ceiling of the steam deck to keep a steady 30fps.
I wouldn't buy a steamdeck, if playing the latest triple A's are a priority.
I already have a PS5, so the steam deck is just for whatever can run on it
You shouldn't purchase a Steam Deck if your intention is to play the latest AAA games.
Whether it's worth it is all dependent on your personal use case.
It's fine for me because I use it to play indie titles and older AAA releases. In short, it's an indie and backlog machine, and it is fantastic for that.
For all really modern stuff, I have a gaming desktop and PS5.
GeForce now. Problem solved
I really am tempted because not only would this solve my issues with the steam deck but i could install windows on my old steam deck and play the games i have compatibility issues on there.
I think u just gave me an idea to keep my lcd deck… I’m going crazy lol
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The steam deck is valve's 2nd time prompting Nintendo, It's time for competition, baby!!!
The dev kits are in circulation. Its coming.
i was able to snag a limited edition OLED on the 16th and it already shipped out so excited to get it glad i never bought an LCD version.
Really same here but mines say shipping soon?
@@heyitsme2480 hopefully it ships out soon for you i already have the tracking number and all steam working fast. am a little disappointed they called it limited edition and still selling them they sold out like 2x but keep opening again.
I bought it but haven't gotten it yet. This is my first steam deck.
I'm super happy with Valve on the steam deck. I was one month outside of my warranty window when my deck stopped working, the gave me and RMA and the unit the sent looks absolutely brand new along with a brand new case. I couldn't be more thrilled with Valve as a company.
Valv is stuck with a bunch on non-oled devices. Expect DEEP discounts to get rid of them IF they have a huge warehouse full of inventory.
I mostly play my LCD version docked. Should I still get the OLED?
I honestly would like to get a steam deck, but some of the games I wanted to use it for (the Yakuza remastered collection) don’t seem to work properly 😢. Waiting until there is a way for me to play them for me to acc get the deck
I just bought a xbox one s yesterday and when I play like a game / fortnite the Xbox starts to making a chirping noise and the black circle vent feels hot
once i feel comfortable with spending 500 dollars for something i already have (my pc) im definetly picking this up. i used to play games on psp many many years ago and this could bring up memories
I'm watching your video to support your channel but I already bought mines and I'm waiting for it to arrive once I heard that valve announced the steam deck OLED I said take my money. Take my money now. I already sold mine steam deck on facebook marketplace for $300 which brought me back some of the money I spent on the 512 GB model that doesn't have etch anti glare screen. So I'm happy and never needed convincing
I liked your content but your voice is awesome, subscribed
Nice Ken!
I really almost bought this but I have to keep reminding myself that I’m NOT rich and that there’s nothing wrong with my current Steam Deck.
Anyone else please come remind me I’m not rich.
You're broke af bro
You're poor bro
You are not as rich as colours on Steam Deck Oled
lol i went thru the same and still bought it… almost bought the legion go also…. 😅😅
@@damianabregba7476 I hate you bro
Couldn't you just put a glossy screen protector on the anti-glare screen to fix that issue?
Long and short answer is yes you should buy ASAP
If I was given one, I’d happily take it. I’m still more than happy with the $500plus model I got in March.
I can’t recommend the steam deck more to people. There’s a bit of a learning curve to getting some particular things running, but the guides that are around will hold your hand through the endeavor.
Make the thing more powerful, better battery life, maybe easier wireless screen mirroring and it’ll be perfect.
While it may be a luxury upgrade, I ordered one, just as I ordered a Switch OLED.
I prefer the 512GB OLED, without the anti-glare screen. If you buy this one, the colors of the OLED seems to pop more than the one WITH the anti-glare.
Same, I specifically didn’t get the 1TB for this reason. I wish they offered it in glossy or else I would’ve gotten that instead
Same here i choose 512gb.
For 4 reason
1: i will end up putting killswitch case and skin from dbrand
2: i always use screen protector for all of my device for safety
3: glossy is for the best OLED experience
4: i can upgrade to 1tb later on
Me watching this as I’m waiting for my oled to ship in lol
I don't know. I've upgraded my ssd and made quite a bit of software mods. I think if you have done that, the oled isn't really a necessary upgrade imo, but far be it from me to tell anyone how to spend their money.
I'm happy with my LCD Steamdeck, probably will upgrade like my PC, after 10 years
If you put a screen “glass” protector will resolve the doll colors of screen
Personally, I think if you already have one there's truly no point. the steamdeck OLED is defintely for those who didn't buy an original steamdeck
Yes, Oled is a nice to have feature. RUclipsrs really push FOMO to the max. My LCD SteamDeck works well and looks fine
Imo if you use the Deck more than anything else, and would appreciate the better screen/battery life, then it’d be worth it. Not so much if it’s something you only use occasionally or primarily use a different device.
@@CaptainEffort yeah I getchu. As someone who casually uses it, it doesn’t really make sense to spend the money on a new one. OLED is a nice to have but it just don’t matter as much for me. The steam deck is already impressive as it is and can play all the games I want
Does it have private browser mode?
i wanted to get a steam deck oled but i think ill just wait til 2025 to see if there’s a new one. i want detachable controllers that mount to the bottom of the screen
I hope, that they will never make removable controllers… Just use a BT Controller.
do you work with austin still?
I didn't know Ned from Spiderman has a review channel
You did a great job reviewing the OLED steamdeck. $399 isn't a bad price imo.
For a switch oled that is 350$, this is a VERY good price.
399 is the price of the lcd 549 is the price of the oled
@@semvloedgraven7815 oh naw oled too much for me then💀🤣
Rog Ally Z1 is only $450 rn. A better deal imo. Play it at 10W or 15W and call it a day. Use 20W or 30W in desktop mode. It's nearly perfect if you ask me. It's even better with an XGM.
@@volcalstone 💀💀💀Windows 💀💀💀
i wanna buy it to but steam os doesnt support genshin and star rail which is what i play on the go
Can you please play genshin imapct on full graphics and fps?
How does No Man's Sky run on this new model?
I'm glad u mentioned the etched adds a haze. Most reviewers obviously aren't used to OLEDs. I have multiple OLEDs and a 512 gb oled deck now. There is a reason 99% of all OLEDs have a glossy screen. If ur used to LCDs it will looking amazing, but if ur used to OLEDs it just isn't the same clarity and life to the image. I really wanted the limit edition but since the etched wasn't optional they lost a upgrade there.
Ngl the oled is amazing, been replaying all the GTA games on it till GTA 6 comes out
I bought the premium version on launch 😢 I'm not very good with a controller so I gave it to my son.
Im getting a €500 bonus from work so ill defo get the base OLED version lobe it when i get a good deal 😂
Now people can ask what they heck you're playing on for 50% longer!
At this point a future Steam Deck 2 only needs VRR and a new silicon.
And double the RAM
900p screen should be doable too. Smaller bezels and whole device, make it lighter and make it pocketable-ish. Make trackpads in better position since Steam Controller is more comfortable in that regard. All in all if they somehow figured out even better compromise i would be more than happy
As someone that doesn't have a steam deck I see this as an absolute win.
People who comment "As a X... I see this as an absolute win" are epitome of NPC dialogue.
He’s not wrong tho, i hate myself for having bought a lcd deck two months before oled release… still got the oled lol
@@adds-kz3oc People who say “people who comment x are the epitome of NPC dialogue” are the epitome of NPC dialogue
@@adds-kz3oc ahahahaha, thats kinda true tho... A lot of videos that I check, I always see the "As a X..." kind of comments
Need to sort anto cheat issue i think
I have Logitech gcloud I don’t think I’d buy this since it does remote play just fine
10/10 RUclipsr got that miku drip
This is the definitive version of the Steam Deck but the performance holds it back. I want the OLED version but I don’t use my OG since I’ve gotten the Ally. While I agree windows is not made for handhelds if you know how to use windows and set custom keys to manage windows it works perfectly fine.
I returned the Ally, because while the performance is impressive, the sub 1 hour battery life when pumping out said performance certainly isn't. I don't carry a power bank with me and I'd rather not play plugged into a wall (because it's a portable device). The Steam Deck and especially the OLED has the perfect balance between battery and performance. And now has the very best screen in the portable PC space.
Our PC gaming god Gabe Newell just wants the best decent gaming experience for us.
So you can't do much wrong if you're going upgrade to an OLED in my opinion.
Thank you for the video! :)
Can't wait for 2025 when Valve will launch the Steam Deck 2.
3:40 our god on screen
Fire
I have the original 512 model and think I'll just hold off for a full revision. I want Ally level or above FPS.
but can it run crysis?
yes :o
So pissed. Litterally just bought mine a month ago and had no idea they were coming with an OLED version. I’ve seen the difference in the OLED on my Nintendo Switch, so I know the visuals alone are worth it. Add in the other improvements and I guess I’m looking to sell mine month old one and get a OLED. Good grief.
I’m literally in the same situation I own a lot of oled devices my phones have been oled for the past 10years and I love the brightness if it makes you feel any better you can OC the lcd to 70hz and still have a similar battery life along with the new updates srgb settings I’m still on the fence especially since I know someone who wants a steamdeck
yes
Gonna sell my Steam Deck for the OLED because the screen is a bit meh on the OG model.
I'm good..my original 256 model is fine
Trying to decide between the 256 lcd and 512 OLED. I don't really wanna spend $600. If I'm mostly playing indie games you think the LCD model would be good?
I ll serenelly keep my first Deck and in two years at november 2025, I will buy the future steam deck oled 2, with a bump in the power to play Gta 6 on
Has anyone who bought a OLED at launch shipped yet?
Not yet, but they’re preparing to ship. I just got a tracking number
@@CaptainEffort me as well.
Hopefully we get them before thanksgiving that would be awesome!
Short answer: yes. 100%. No brainer.
I want one
my bank account does not
TLDR ; yes
I ended selling my old deck with a 1tb ssd upgrade for $400 so i lost about $50. I cant wait for my limited edition to come in.
Same sold mine around that and got the 512gb oled we made off good 👍🏼
Too late, shipment pending....:P my first real console type HW. :)
I refuse to replace my lcd model with an oled it has all customization to the way I like and I'm not redownloading any mods
**watches this video after buying the Steam Deck OLED** sure why not?
Yes, you should buy it. Just saved you 8 minutes of your life.
of course buy it yup! Oled! and much much more! lcd is liquid crappy display lol!
Is the PlayStation Portal better than this? It's only $200 and everybody on the PlayStation RUclipss seem to love it saying it's just as good as OLED and they can't tell much of a difference?
lol not even comparable bro. Ps portal is just a remote player. Not even a console like the switch, let alone a full fledged handheld PC… only worth it if you have PS and wanna only play those games.. and u better have good Internet
They’re different things and serve different purposes. The PS Portal is more for using your PS5 when you don’t have access to your tv, or simply if you want to play in bed, the bathroom, etc. It doesn’t actually play games on its own, and requires an internet connection to use.
The Steam Deck is its own thing, and doesn’t require any other devices to work. So you don’t need an internet connection to use it, and can play all your games whenever and wherever you want to.
$278 for a deck is a steal. Buy a used 1tb nvme and the deckhd screen upgrade. You will have something similar to the oled for way less.
Not even close, the deck hd eats a lot of battery and the install is a full time work day lol
that is if you can even find them in stock lol
Gee , I feel sorry for this . Working so hard to see if its worth the difference of the original . Sweating away playing games 😔
Who wants to buy my old deck I already have Oled coming
When iFixIt starts selling replacement panels for the OLED, I'll try to convert my original 512gb. Beyond that, there wasn't a performance or resolution increase, so there isn't enough to justify buying a second Steam Deck
Let's be really honest, if you currently own a Steam Deck you're going to order the new OLED variant. It's how things are in the tech consumption world. I own a Switch, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and fought through Valve's crashing website last week to pick up.a limited ed. 1TB model. We are gamers and make bad purchasing choices. You're gonna want the OLED!
Not all of us make bad financial choices
@@jimmymac2292Unfortunately I do lol.
But in all seriousness, I use my Steam Deck religiously, so imo the upgrade’s worth it. I know that I’ll more than get my money’s worth, so I’ll be taking full advantage of the better battery life and better screen.
I’m not a drone so no, I’ll keep my lcd.
I bought the OLED, didn't worth the extra money, sent it back and happy with older model !
i just bought the normal one :) cheap now so no reason to spend all that extra money. bang for ‘bug’ mode activated
For "bug" indeed 😅
Hahaha yep
