I do like carrying on after mandatory fails on these challenges, I think tbh they shouldnt count as a fail if theres literally no way around, getting to and taking down the boss should be the challenge
in all fairness if a character is not available for use in then it is fine, i would argue modding and hacking in character is much more of a cheat move
I was stunned to hear that after 100's of hours playing ff8 you didn't know limits can appear without critical hp, how had that never happened you before now 😂
Because arranging to have status afflictions is more effort than just dropping to 0 HP and getting revived.
Most people exploiting limits are either using low HP or casting aura, because they're just more convenient. Seeing limits on white HP is just mega rare if you're playing optimally.
I know I'd need a therapist if I tried this challenge cause of all the RNG

I actually did somewhat of a similar run where I tried to basically solo with selphie and basically either rapture or the end every fight. Stopped at disk 3 cause real life reasons, but I remember it wasnt too bad given that you don't need to grind random encounters in ff8.
The new red giant method seems perfectly legit to me, no need to go through the motions.

The red giant thing is fine, we know it works and can be done. Showing that it can be done yet again would just be time being wasted that could be spend on progress. I'll let it slight.

I think with how much RNG hates Primal, he shouldn't go anywhere near a casino. I thought my luck in jrpgs was bad.
I wasn't expecting this one to be beatable so good job. You could have kept yourself blinded and silenced for more consistently decent limits and to access slots at higher health. If you aren't auto attacking or using magic/draw/gf anyway then they're effectively permanent mini-aura spells.
As long as you prove that you can grind something, you should be able to take a few shortcuts in spirit of us getting more challenges

To be fair it isn't useful in this run.
Its not useful for CARD modding on this run its still a useful card for PLAYING TT even ON DISC 4.

For me, the Red Giant is fine, as long as you've shown that you can do it, I wouldn't expect a video to waste someone's time doing long ass boring methods just to prove a point. It's like an FFV single job challenge series I'm watching. Guy beat Omniscient with reflect rings on the first vid, said it took a stupidly long time, and basically just lit the asshole on fire as a black mage in all of the other videos. I can live with this.

One question, I know you can't spawn Selphie into the Edea Disc 1 fight but isn't it true you can get all characters KO'd in that battle and the game continues? I'd say that doesn't count as a fail if so!
When I saw the challenge I thought it'd be 'Using Selphie for every fight where it's normally possible to use Selphie' so I definitely wouldn't consider the two where you couldn't hack her in as a fail, hacking her in to the other fights was just above and beyond what I expected to begin with.

Actually, this is the EASIEST challenge if you play on the PSX hardware. You see, Selphie got ONE NASTY trick on this hardware....OPEN THE DISC TRAY DURING HER LIMIT BREAK AND ROLL THE SLOT. After you are done with your choice of spell, close the disc tray. Enemies WILL NOT ATTACK YOU WHEN THE DISC TRAY IS OPEN!!!!

The GOD mode cheat makes HER UNKILLABLE only 9999 moves/death magic IF it connects would kill her but even with that Cheat on I NEVER had The end trigger and she's still useless like against the Red Giant WITHOUT IT.

I looked through a few comments first, but didn’t see mention of this:
It is not a bug getting a limit break to show up when not in yellow health. It’s just a much smaller chance of actually getting a limit break. This even works at full HP. If I had to guess they couldn’t fully disable limit breaks when not in yellow HP or if they did disable limits then Aura might not work. I have not actually looked at the game’s code so take my guess with a grain of salt.
was coming to say this too. ive had limit show at full hp with all characters and no aura. threat level is a funky thing where youre never quite sure whats good until low hp and dead party members
It's probably the same as Card and Devour success chance. Success rate = ((maxhp-current HP)/max HP)*100 I've never specifically seen it show up at 100% without aura, but i am not sure.
About that without the GOD mode PS4 cheat on limit breaks tend to be usable on the chosen party member at FULL HP if EVERYONE ELSE is dead that's why you don't NEED the GOD mode cheat to Solo Seifer Limit break enemies to death BEFORE Selphie first joins the party IF you keep Squall and Zell dead.

Yes WiTH the GOD mode cheat on while you'll NEVER die unless you take a 9999 hit OR a DEATH spell connects I NEVER had The End show up even once with the God mode cheat on Rinoa's limits are the same with God mode on Rinoa will NEVER trigger Invincible moon as a limit break IF you ever learn it.
But then again I almost NEVER had her trigger Wishing Star under God mode turn on either BUT Wishing Star kind of unlocks at the same time you can Angel Wing Limit Meteor spells.
I wouldn't worry about the forced non-Selphie boss fights tbh; most challenge runs or solo character speedrun tables just have the rule that if the character isn't available then the rules don't apply until your character is available again - it's nice to see you able to mod Selphie into the Irfrit fight etc. but I wouldn't worry too much. Tbh if it was my challenge run, I'd have allowed Aura and other party members to attack themselves to raise the threat level!
This challenge run is just pure rng depression juice.

I'm glad you continued through and ignored the mandatory fights where "you can't do it, but it's not because the fight is too hard, it's because the game refuses to include it as an option". I mean, if you stopped there, we wouldn't have had that CBT joke right after! Meanwhile, governments could use this game as an example of the dangers of gambling addiction.
Slots come in tables. So you can learn the spell sequences and recognize pretty quickly if the current table has The End and drop and re-roll the limit break to get a different table. Tables you can get depends on the crisis level, at low one there's no The End available at all, I believe. That works not just for The End, slots can be controlled to a decent degree.
WOW, but no thanks, I spent 600 hours in FF8 to make a Marlboro extermination crew, that was hard enough. A crew so fast they hit the target 17 times before it gets it's turn and uses bad breath.
30:25 At low, but not yellow health, if your threat level is high enough you can still get limits. I think it works even near max health when both other party members are dead.
Also this challenge is completely cheesable on old psx hardware: you open the cover and the game stops tge batyle, but alliws you to reroll your slots.

I fully approve of your Red Giant choice, you get the necessary tools and save 3 hours is perfect, anyone who wants proof can go see the Magic only run where you did it first and the Summon only run where you proved it's effectiveness.

Doing this in the modern era instead of on original hardware where you could open the disc drive and pause the enemy whilst you spammed for The End.... Ultimecia met that cheese more than once. (Literally. You had to hit it with her four times because it just advances her dialogue).

If Squall is KO in the end of disc 1 Edea fight for 2 full rounds the battle just ends
Two dead allies affect the crisis level so you get limit chance at higher hp. Aura kinda does the same thing

Maybe I misunderstood the bit in the beginning about using the Encounter None ability to skip Laguna's dream sequence. I'd swear I've had that equipped before and still got a dream sequence.

Just a thought I had, but waiting on Do Over sort of reminds me of my experience with Chrono Trigger, where with a certain level/setup it was less economical to do Triple Techs than it was just to do everyone's strongest single-target attacks. (This also left my healer available instead of tying up their action.) What I'm saying is maybe just doing chip damage is better sometimes than waiting for that super strong magic cast while the enemies are chipping away at *you* instead. Of course, this is just conjecture from what I'm watching in the video, and I know your lived experience playing it probably disproves that theory in at least a few battles, but I've always been a speed over strength type in games, and sometimes that cumulative damage is a lot more than going for the crazy attacks with a lot of build up.
Okay, okay, that's what I get for commenting before I'm finished watching. I see that you did certainly prioritize speed over strength in some fights. Also commenting again because I forgot to say that I'm praying to RNGesus for lots of turn skipping this time around.

at start: but by the fact I've not seen the "Final Fantasy 10 NSGNSNCNONENNENBB" series in a while, it was either not favorably received enough to finish, or it was so dire you were forced to abandon it. Right now I'm guessing the second since all the videos I've seen about it are about how dire it is... If however you are stil going, I'll say one thing: "good luck, and here's to the best! And may Jecht not troll you into oblivion!"
Also, I'm going to guess you can do this, but I am not sure what it will take. I'm going to guess levels wont' help much due to the way FFVII works, so I'm guess you'll need to abuse the bleep out of stat junctioning.

Shout to NGPlus and there LB only FF8 challenge for this and credit to whoever they sourced but at 10:25 The End appearing depends on what table you land on when using Slots (which moves to the next table whenever it becomes her turn and ofc you can use Slots) I believe it only appears on a total of 4 tables out of a total possible 32 or 64 and those The End tables are only accessible at certain levels.

the problem with auro especially on the PC version of the game is that it runs out so damn fast
