BOOJIE QUESTIONS OF THE DAY! 1. What do you think the storyline represents in Imaginary Friend? 2. Which member’s performance stood out to you the most? 3. How does this MV compare to their past releases?
I saw a theory that the video is the girls way of saying they protect Lia!! That’s why their hands are bloody but Lia’s isn’t. 2. Chaeryeong owns this choreo!! 3. THEIR BEST MV!!!
Regarding the m/v interpretation, in my humble opinion, it's a manifest & real shoutout to idols struggles & what they face on a daily basis: being hurt by haters through online comments; being always in the spotlight, every gesture they make or word they say being under scrutiny; not being able to have a private life or privacy whatsoever. The m/v, in that regard, is full of metaphors: being chased by spotlights; walking in circles, on predetermined lanes; touched or followed by shadows; walking on a tight rope; the wounds & scars they display; the frames, the mirrors, there are so many, many images with such a deep meaning behind them. And, by starting with Lia, the choreo & the closing image, also with Lia's eyes covered by her fellow Itzy members, in my opinion, it's them showing their support for her (almost like a protective gesture), considering the problems she faced (for those who don't know, she was forced to take a 1 y hiatus, due to severe anxiety, caused by the struggles she faced being an idol, being hurt by repeated remarks, by the so called "fans", aka keyboard warriors , being a victim, for several years, of online bullying)...
(Context: I am an Itzy casual) When I first heard and saw this MV, I thought "wow, this is an incredible experience all around," particularly with the lyrics in the context of Lia's return, but I was holding it together. But the moment at the end with Lia, I suddenly burst into tears. It just hit out of nowhere! So don't feel alone in crying! 😅
Yeah in every mv/dance choreo, they have a signature pose/step which is a crown that they only do when all the members are together i think 👀👑 0:58 You can look at all the other choreography videos and see their iconic crown pose 😁
I think that when the English version of Imaginary Friend was released, Apple Music said that the song was about the parasocial relationship we as fans have with kpop idols. That's why they keep repeating they are our "Imaginary Friends" and they will keep us safe and dreaming but in contrast the song and mv look cold almost sad, having an imagery of the girls running in circles, being hurt and trying to stop the bleeding without succeeding, being scared and harmed by shadows that can't touch them but the itzy girls can feel them, the girls trying to cover lia's eyes at the end, a butterfly pinned to a wall, so beautiful and still so we can see it carefully but so in pain at the same time. Actually Lia herself said that we as fans get to decide if imaginary friend is a good thing or not. Absolutely stunning, not many songs in kpop invite to reflect about how we consume our favorite idols.
Don't even worry about crying, you are most definitely not alone there. This was bound to be an emotional piece; any real long-time fan of ITZY will have missed Lia like crazy while she was away (AND we would understand why she was gone and we would be okay knowing that she really needed to take time for herself; only the damnable trolls who made this crap against herr would feel fine with her being gone, just like they all wanted to happen. Good thing she's back so those haters and trolls lose the toy they had to play with)! The group did what they could while she was away, but OBVIOUSLY it really just was not the same without Lia. And now they are all back together so of course MIDZY is happy! We are SO PROUD of each one of these awesome ladies! They all worked very hard to make this happen; you can see it, you can hear it, you can FEEL it, which is what Art is all about.
The song is so good, I agree about ryujin and yeji's parts .but it grew on me for sure . I like it all now ❤❤ they really killed it with the choreo and the vocals always on point ❤
I actually agree with your comment about the lyrics from Yeji and Ryujin kinda not matching the rest of the song (but I love the song!). You would think that they could have come up with better matching lyrics - even if they use the music. I like your realistic comments - even if they are critical.
i like yejis and ryujins parts but i get you because i think it’s the use of the “vibe” lyric, like it just doesn’t fit the song imo SO I GET YOU! but amazing song 😢❤

@@CagedSoul1982 멋진 해석입니다!
Really loved it when they covered LIA's eyes... for me it's when they want to protect Lia from everything. ITZY is Lia's imaginary friends
Imaginary friend really is one of the release with the meaning and choreo (also the members helped with the creation of the choreo)

Actually Ryujin did help with the choreography❤
I love the song and
I love Itzy 🫶
My fav comeback 👑
I love itzy
정말 멋진 리액션입니다
약간의 슬픔과 향수, 서정적이면서도 ITZY 특유의 강인함이 겸비된 노래에요
노래도 좋지만 뮤비의 영상미가 놀랍습니다
Lia의 복귀로 마지막 퍼즐이 완성되었습니다 : )
