For those of us without six pairs of hands there are always costumes. *The* song for this, the Age of Loneliness. Whether it’s because you’re a loser like me or it’s lonely at the top for them. So many elderly people isolated from access to essentials for living on “islands”, so many dying alone here in East Asia especially, the depopulation, the exclusive society, the loss of connection to living things and nature in general, the mass extinction, . . .
I think that when the English version of Imaginary Friend was released, Apple Music said that the song was about the parasocial relationship we as fans have with kpop idols. That's why they keep repeating they are our "Imaginary Friends" and they will keep us safe and dreaming but in contrast the song and mv look cold almost sad, having an imagery of the girls running in circles, being hurt and trying to stop the bleeding without succeeding, being scared and harmed by shadows that can't touch them but the itzy girls can feel them, the girls trying to cover lia's eyes at the end, a butterfly pinned to a wall, so beautiful and still so we can see it carefully but so in pain at the same time. Actually Lia herself said that we as fans get to decide if imaginary friend is a good thing or not. Absolutely stunning, not many songs in kpop invite to reflect about how we consume our favorite idols.
honestly I really like this take about the song. it makes a lot of sense, too, because having a parasocial relationship with idols does make them your imaginary friend. Itzy's message seems to be that they'll endure pain and hardships (mental health struggles, bullying, exhaustion, physical pain, etc.) to make sure that their fans feel some type of way, whether that be comforted, protected, not alone, etc.
Honestly my favorite song of theirs, it's just so good musically and the vocals are the cherry on top. The mv is a masterpiece. As Twice fan and someone whoever doesn't follow itzy like that, I hope this mv/song wins plenty of awards and gets the recognition it deserves!
Regarding the m/v, interpretation, in my humble opinion, this is a manifest & real shoutout to idols struggles, & the pains they face on a daily basis: being hurt by haters through online comments; being always in the spotlight, every gesture they make or word they say being under scrutiny; not being able to have a private life or privacy whatsoever. The m/v, in that regard, is full of metaphors: being chased by spotlights; walking in circles, on predetermined lanes; touched or followed by shadows; walking on a tight rope; the wounds & scars they display; the frames, the mirrors, there are so many, many images with such a deep meaning behind them. And, by starting with Lia, the choreo & the closing image, also with Lia's eyes covered by her fellow Itzy members, in my opinion, it's them showing their support for her (almost like a protective gesture), considering the problems she faced (for those who don't know, she was forced to take a 1 y hiatus, due to severe anxiety, caused by the struggles she faced being an idol, being hurt by repeated remarks, by the so called "fans", aka keyboard warriors , being a victim, for several years, of online bullying)... Few things I noticed in this MV: This is very personal for Lia. The video started and ended with all 4 members covering Lia's eyes = protecting her from negativity All members except Lia have wounds on their fist = it may depict how they fight from the negativity that Lia was receiving Lia's shadow moving and reaching out to Yeji's shoulder = Lia shows how she is reaching out to Yeji during her struggles Lia being with Yuna in the "bathroom" scene = Lia and Yuna are roommates and my understanding is that Yuna also shares the pain that Lia was experiencing Lia running from the spotlight = a metaphor of her anxieties, and perhaps Chaeryeong too as she was also running Lia and Ryujin (?) under the blanket = Lia shares her secrets with Ryujin I actually listened to this song first before watching the MV and I immediately thought this was one of the tracks they would sing and how wrong am I! I was really impressed with their choreography with this track and the MV is easily one of my favorites. This track easily goes high with within my top 5 from my Itzy's favorite tracks.

I cried when i watched this mv, and my tears were immediately wiped out when they went into that dance break but i cried nonetheless, and i still do every time I watch the intro. I’ve only cried like this with one other itzy mv and it’s “bet on me”, I guess itzy really has a chokehold on me. imo they absolutely nailed this and I loved the artistry of it. defo my top 5 favourite mvs and songs of all time. can’t wait for you to get to the dance practice because the use of symmetry is insane.
Folks should take this with a grain of salt because I’m clearly not the target audience for kpop, but I feel like this Ricky Bobby-ass “if you ain’t first, you’re last” mentality is silly. I say that because I feel like people consider Itzy a “flop” because they aren’t the most popular group out there like they were right at their debut, but the reality is that they put out enjoyable content, make good music, do great dances and they have a strong and growing fanbase. Maybe I’m biased because the popularity of anything has never been what’s attracted me to the things I love, but I think all us Midzys shouldn’t let all the doom and gloom surrounding the group online rain on our parade. Even I had judged "Sneakers" before listen to it completely, was influenced by the haters. But once I listened, I was like noooooo it was so uplifting. And during the concert, that song was one of songs fans sang along. ITZY is 2nd Kpop concert I attended, out of my more than 20 years listening to Kpop since the 90s. And I super love their concert.

First of all the lyrics of this song are just so freaking good. Im one of those people who thought that Itzy never topped off Wannabe but this is it, this is the one. The perfect Itzy song. I really hope JYP learns from this because Itzy are some of the best idols out there, gorgeous vocals, stunning visuals, some of THE best dancers and really marketable personalities, yet they are far from the level of popularity they should be at and that is entirely JYPE's fault.
