People are being way too negative too early. Let's let the season unfold before how saying how bad he is. Tom Brady prepared and studied rigorously when he was an NFL player and if he prepares like he did as a player he will be a fine analyst, but the negative nellies need to pump their brakes a bit.

    He did fine. The only reason it feels like a let-down is because there was hype for it. Everyone expected "Wow! Amazing broadcaster!" But broadcasting isn't a glamorous thing that you should expect to ever be exciting or noteworthy. Nearly all broadcasters are neither good nor bad. They are just average, sufficient, and unmemorable -- which is what you kind of want in a broadcaster. No one watches for the broadcaster. Outside a very small handful of people most of them just lead w/e careers and no one thinks anything of it. They are just adequate, nothing more. But since it's Tom Brady, people expected some extraordinary debut.

    I’m coming here after the Saints/Cowboys game in which I thought Brady got a LOT better. He’s new at this so let’s cut him some slack. You know who I didn’t care for at all when he first started? Joe Buck. When Buck became Fox’s lead play by play commentator in 2002, I couldn’t stand him. Now part of that was my fault. I was young and I didn’t like change, as Buck was replacing a guy I grew up listening to, Pat Summerall. To me, Summerall and Madden were and still are the gold standard of sports broadcasting. But I also thought Buck was awful those first few seasons as Fox’s top play by play guy, no enthusiasm at all and was trying to be a Summerall clone with none of Pat’s grandfatherly charm. However starting around 2007, Buck made a genuine effort to get better and develop his own style of commentary and nowadays I actually really enjoy listening to him in the broadcast booth. So let’s just give Brady some time to settle in before we just assume that he’s bad at his job after one game. Everyone in the world has had a first day at a new job and hopefully your boss and coworkers didn’t automatically assume you were bad at your job if you had a rough first day.

      @@gandalfthejedi5705 Yeah, but Olsen was doing it prior to retiring so he had more overall experience when he got the full-time role. Brady didn't get that as much. If by week 8 he sounds the exact same, then it probably was a mistake. But I would give it a few weeks to settle in before people really criticize him too heavily.

  • @lenpetry9881
    @lenpetry9881 3 месяца назад +1

    Most football announcers and bloggers were lukewarm to downright negative about Brady’s first effort in the booth. One even asked how Greg Olsen must be feeling about Brady's first effort, and everyone in the show cackled in glee.
    But they were comparing Brady’s rookie effort with Olsen’s recent performances, after Olsen had acquired a year or two of experience. I went back to Olsen's first efforts and found that he made many rookie mistakes too. The difference between the two is that Brady was promoted as the Second Coming by Fox, thus raising expectations to unrealistic levels, and envy at Brady’s massive salary no doubt made it more pleasurable to find fault.
    Ease up, boys: Brady will get good in no time, and you’ll have to find someone else to feel superior to.

    We all sucked when new to any job we started. The man been deadly focused and successful at being a qb for two decades. Talking into a camera to millions of spectators is a whole other skill he needs to work on and will only get better in time. It would help if he had Peyton on his side because someone to vibe with makes it more natural. He clearly knows what he's talking about. It just takes a while for successful people to convert over to explaining things to a crowd.

    A lot of really high IQ, competitive, extraordinary people have a hard time speaking “normally” - their brains are operating at a different analytical and philosophical level. Look at Elon Musk for instance. Tom is somewhat similar. It will take a lot of practice for him to speak fluidly

    He definitely didn’t ace it, but my guess is that he will analyze this broadcast and future ones and keep improving. Exact same thing he did as a quarterback. Watch his own films and those of other broadcasters and learn. Biggest thing is that he needs to not focus on how others do it, but how he wants to. Heck, he might even need to smash an ipad against a bench to make it all come together

    He's not comfortable yet and he's still over thinking his commentary instead of it just flowing naturally. That's why there are those pauses that one X user pointed out. He's going to be a solid commentator once he gets more comfortable with his new role.

    He sounded great for the UFL game, he probably just let the nerves get to him on this one. I think he’ll be fine. And this comes from someone who hated him on the field 😅

    If anyone paid me 100’s of millions of dollars to do something I would legit shit my pants.
    I thought he started to come out of his shell at the end and speak with his normal conviction. I think once he’s able to relax and realizes he just needs to be himself he’ll crush it.
