*** VITAL INFO FOR GH5 USERS *** When using the Sirui Anamorphic Lens, or any 1.33x anamorphic lens, do NOT shoot in 'anamorphic mode' within the GH5. This 4:3 open gate mode is only intended for lenses with a 2x squeeze - For lenses with 1.33x (Such as the Sirui Anamorphic), the footage must be captured at 16:9 to produce the proper anamorphic result. I just spent 48 hours banging my head against a wall over this. Hope it saves someone else the stress!
Is it still valid? There are plenty of yt videos shot on GH5 with 1.33x anamorphic lens in anamorphic mode (og). The resulting video is 16:9 ratio with delicate anamorphic features (still far from spherical vibe).
Hi I just bought a Sirui anamorphic 35mm f1.8 and my camera is Panasonic GH5 and also I have Viltrox speed booster EF-M2II ( used typically for Sigma 18-35mm ). So Sirui offers an ef-mount adapter for their 35mm anamorphic. Will this work to combine 35mm anamorphic mft converted and mounted on ef speed booster and then mounted on GH5? And if yes how good or bad will be the results? Thank you
You can only use 1 adapter from lens to camera mount. So if you are filming with an anamorphic lens, you need the adapter to go from that lens to MFT. You can't use multiple adapters as the flange distance will not work and be too far from the sensor.
THis looks good: but: you say that this is shot in 4k60 - but this youtube clip is 24fps. what did you do? (asking because I want to shoot something similar - but afraid that 24 fps could be to slow)
Very informative and inspiring - makes me want to pick up a GH5 What was your focusing solution for the gimbal shots if you don’t mind me asking? Thank you
Ahhh so long ago, but I think it was Dulce 02. The lenses were anamorphic, so they will look a little different with their colors, so just keep that in mind.
I shoot very similarly. I use GH5/GH5s and use ISCO ultra star and a Rapido FVD-16a as a single focus solution. It works great. I haven't used it for a wedding yet.
@@Whiteinrevery I've used it on a bunch of taking lenses. The 50mm f1.8 Nikkor pancake (Very small), 85mm f1.4, and even the 70-200. They all work great. I'm thinking of adding a Schnieder Trustreak filter to get more flares when I need them. I like how sharp the Ultra stars are too. And you can shoot wide open. It's a great look. I like the modern look over the softer vintage looks. But sometimes I need that vintage look too so it still has its place. Oh, I also use a 7" monitor to help focus too.
@@eastonmok I have moved to Blackmagic. The BRAW is some much better than the Lumix 10 bit. It just has so much more latitude. I use the Metabones SB XL.

I just got the S1 so I'm playing with all the profiles again to see if my natural profile is still the route we want to go.

ben Pritchard once you purchase the LUTs, it has a PDF with the picture profile settings in detail. But they also have a video where he mentions the exact same settings.
I see the running scenes around 10:40 look lovely and smooth, how did you get that? Seems like it was slowed down but I can only get 25fps max with anamorphic, did you use Twixtor or the smoothing slow motion feature in FCPX? It looks really great, I have the FVD16A single focus system with the GH5, on a Kowa 16H
Lens flares, shape of bokeh, non-4:3 and non-16:9 aspect ratio. Wide-angle has to do more with focal length than with aspect ratio of the lens or sensor.
I thougt so, since there is no option to film more then 60fps anamorphic.. but anyway it looks sooo smooth that I thought maybe you found a way to film it even slower ;-)
Those 20k Kowa's are not necessary. While amazing lenses you can build your own set for less than $2k with better results in some cases. I've got a handful of custom built lenses, for anyone interested look for H. Christian Hypergonars, sankor 16d and 16h, those will give you the look all of you will be looking for. Also PL mounted anamorphics on a MFT camera is kind of pointless as you hardly get half of the characteristics you'd get from a s35 or FF sensor. I'd highly recommend going the speed-boosted route with either EF or Nikon mounted glass as you will get s35 like performance. Also - turn your image stabilization off with anamorphic, moving flares look novice. Anyone feel free to message me if you really wanna go anamorphic for less that $2k and get better results than this.
I did the diy route with the Blue Ultra Star and got really deep into that route and ultimately did some tests with it compared to the Kowa lenses and it is night and day difference. It looks like a cheap version of really great anamorphic lenses. The subjects don't pop at all with the projector lens adapters and feels very flat. Also the flares are no where as beautiful or pronounced as these lenses. Another the diy route is not good for run and gun at all which is why we ultimately ditched that route for this film. The image stretch isn't pleasing for faces as compared to authentic anamorphic lenses. Thanks for sharing your comment. I researched for months before this shoot and spent about $1500 on the diy route only to not decide to go that route because of the quality and ease of use of the Kowas.
as for the moving flares, they are more noticeable in the gimbal shots as it wasn't balanced the best and I should have turned off the stabilization for that. We literally picked up the lenses the day before the shoot and didn't have time to really test out how the stabilization would look in post and now see bouncy flares here and there which is not pleasing. For most of the shots though, it worked nicely.
@@Whiteinrevery Nice yea doesn't look bad just sharing my experience. The ultra-star's are very widely known to be too clean, they dont really flare AT ALL, surprised you didn't find that in your research if that's what you were looking for. I've been on shoots with kowas and I just didn't particularly think they looked like a $20k piece of glass tbh, I actually preferred the look from my Hypergonar setup with the FVD16a variable diopter for single focus. The lenses I listed are legitimately some of the best projector lenses you can find that rival cookes as far as I'm concerned for less than $1k. If I was going to rent a 20k lens we've rented Atlas, Cooke, and Lomo square fronts and they will all blow anything out of the water but the 16d and 16h's that have been properly calibrated seem to be the best of both worlds as far as portability and price.
@@MattMatheson yeah those big guns of anamorphic lenses you listed are massive and heavy. the Kowas are the lightest option which is why we went that route. I chatted with Tito a lot about this and he recommended all those projector lens options and I bid on a few. Had the Schneider as well. I only had a few months for this shoot and couldn't get my hands on the lenses you have as they get bid up or not available that often on eBay. I've seen so many youtube videos on the diy route but ultimately needed 2 complete setups to shoot with with similar settings and getting those projector lens adapters were just too difficult to do in the time frame. Also 2x lenses don't flare as much as the 1.33 ones do but I really wanted the 2x look.
